  • Can be updated to GDR3 http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/11/samsung-ativ-s-windows-phon…

Cant complain at this price point.

  • Whats meant by Factory scoop?

    • Limited stock - Still Australian stock with Australian Warrenty

    • Thats the name they give their "super special, limited quantity, ohh laa laa" deals.

  • Is it available in store too?

  • Scratch that, just saw it's online only.

  • Saw this a few days ago on their website.
Never bothered to post it considering CES is currently up and running.

    • I think someone posted this deal ages ago.

  • Does anyone use a windows platform smartphone here? What are your views on it? This would be a bargain buy for me….but worried about changing from Android to Windows. Note: I currently have a Galaxy S3.

    • I wouldn't

many missing features. e.g. one of the benefits of gdr3 update is to enable a screen rotation lock button.

how did they miss this one out the first time round. :/

also, the back and search button are placed in an annoying position.

    • This is a sister phone to the GS3, so it will physically feel similar but you'll have the WP8 OS.

Have been using it (as have many others here) for a while and very pleased with it. Look at your most frequently used apps and see if they are either on WP or if alternatives exist. It's fast, fluid, personalisable with live tiles and no matter how many apps you have installed it still runs as well as the day you got it.

I take features for granted in WP8 I expect other phones to have - e.g. colleague was putting in a WiFi password on her iPhone today and couldn't see any way to view the WiFi password in cleartext while typing it. WP can do this and I expected all others to as well (iOS very well may, but wasn't immediately obvious). The fact the keyboard is also in all-caps all the time is odd considering it will type in lower case unless the shift key is highlighted. Point being each has their own nuances and that's somewhat the point in having different OS.

I used a windonw mobile until recently and I have to say resources are very limited.. can't compare with android… I won't go back to a windows mobile…

      • Windows Mobile had it's last release in 2010; this is Windows Phone, much different ;)

        • I think what he meant was that he had a Windows based mobile phone

    • I have Lumia 620 and I love it.
Check for the ram, if it is 512 mb you may feel the phone is slow to run apps, if it is 1 GB then you gonna love the WP8 os.

If you're used to Android you'll feel years behind with WP8. It's quite nice to use and feels good, but you'll frequently feel frustrated. I've used my gf's Lumia on occasion, and while it's a nice UI, I would never be able to live with it.

"Frustration" is the word when I'm using my gf's Lumia 920 and it's not helped when the phone was bricked three weeks after she bought it by installing their fix pack. As Nokia closed their support center around Australia, we had to post it to Nokia at our own cost so they can fix their known brick problem with the phone. WP8 is really years behind Android.

        • I had my 820 repaired a couple of months ago and it was free service under warranty - the service centre was in Sydney.
When did they close their local support centres?

        • I work in Canberra and come back to Melbourne often so I asked for the service center in either Canberra or Melbourne and their staff said non exist in either places. No other choice for me but send back to Nokia support center in Sydney.

Free world map is the only good thing with Lumia 920, the rest is way behind Android/iOS.

    • I have a Nokia Lumia 520 and I don't mind Windows (had HTC desire previously). There aren't as many apps of course but otherwise it's great and easy to get the hang of and very zippy for a cheap phone. I'd buy another windows phone happily.

  • Disappointing that this is 3G only, although some reviews have noted its connection to be pretty fast. Is anyone using this phone and can confirm performance vs. 4G?

    • Wouldn't mind learning this too. 250 's a bit to shell out on only 1g of RAM (although somewhat more manageable in WP). I'm also doubting if latency could be improved.

I personally have several 21Mbps HSDPA modems which rarely go over 3G 5Mbps.

Its has been that price since. It did go out of stock for a little while, but it was restocked soon after,

  • Can you sync a Android Samsung with this phone via your Samsung Account?

  • Seems like a nice phone, but I'm sure it will be $199 soon enough.

  • Lack of 4g would stop me from buying this. If you want a big windows phone this could be a good buy if you don't care about being 3g only. The lumia 525 which will replace the 520, should offer the best bang for buck if you want to experiment with windows phone. Or hopefully we see sub $100 prices on the 520 soon, but that's probably wishful thinking, though the amazon deal was only $56 but locked. :(

Do W8 phones have the same apps as Surface RT?

As Surface RT has no Candy Crush app and no Chrome :o …. lol

    • No, they currently have differnt stores. There is no candy crush or chrome app in the WP store either…

  • Until lumia 1520, 1320 Nokia doesn't have a device with a screen larger than this Samsung

    The 625 came close…with 512 ram only

So in a way, this device is pretty unique in the entire lineup of the windows 8 offering across all brand.

It seems nokia deliverately avoided directly competiting with this device even now.

  • $250 GPS with life time map updates… wait 2 years
and you can make calls & surf the net on it!
