  • Great deal. I spent an hour on the phone with Telstra and eventually managed to talk my way out of the $150 unlocking fee so I could use a HTC phone on Aldi mobile. Would've gladly paid the $4 instead of going through that.

    • +1

Really? Aldi is on telstra network so why would you need to unlock?

      • Newer phones can apparently lock subset networks as well - it differentiates between Aldi and real Telstra SIM cards. I'd never heard of it either until I put the card in.

Hi Rep, Your site says you can unlock any AT&T phone by IMEI including latest Nokia's. I have a locked AT&T Nokia Lumia 520. Can it be unlocked?

    • +3

      Hi,
Sorry AT&T unlocking changed late last year and we can no longer unlock the newer AT&T Nokia Lumia phones. I will update our website in the next hour.

  • Hi Rep, I bought an iPhone 4S from the auction that has a blocked IMEI with Optus/Virgin. With the iPhone Unblocking service, does it mean the IMEI is clean again and I can use it with a SIM in Australia or will it only work overseas when unlocked? Thanks!

    • Yes once the IMEI is unblocked its clean so can be used in Australia. The service is quite expensive though. See: http://www.sydneyunlocking.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=15_…

      • I don't see this pre-paid phone listed:

        "Pre-Paid Telstra QWERTY-Touch"

        what am I missing?

        TIA.

        • Hi, I didn't list this phone as a popular Telstra/Boost phone that we unlock as we don't unlock many of them. But you can unlock it for $15.99 using this service.

        • That's about what ee paid for the phone at Coles, last week. Surely this deal's OzB voucher code should cut 50% off the price… to bring it into the cost-range given in the deal…? (Otherwise, well look about for other offers.)

        • +1

Google Ads - at the top of this instance of this deal page seems to be my friend, here… suggesting I can unlock for less:

          "Instant Unlock $1.89 AUD
          + www.code-unlocking.com
          Instantly Unlock your Mobile!
Unlock by Code, Use any Network"

          If this proves correct or
          even close to the price
          I may be offered…
          I'd say - in this case -
          "Don't Buy Australian"

You could be using such a
          service - behind the scenes
          - and inflating the price
          by a factor of 800 - 900%

If so, I'll be back to say:

          • "Go away."

          Watch This Space…

        • +1

So, I got the offer of AU$ 5.99 from the above competitor, with nearly instant turnaround time.

          Also, altho not as competitive,
Google (or is it OzB's doing?) Ad's
          offered another competitor's offers,
at the top of this OzB deal page:

          "Instant Unlocking $11.99
          unlock-your-phones.com/Unlock
          Unlock Any Phone Online Instantly
Use Any Sim Card and Any Network"

I appreciate that you're new at this
game - as your "L" plate indicates
          but - IMO - many OzBargainers -aren't-

So, we expect much more competitive
offers & deals than yours or this 2nd
          guy's offerings.

I trust that you'll adjust your prices,
ie, before listing on OzB again.

          ;-)

PS You'll notice that -other- commenters
          found your price unduly excessive…

        • Price wise, this deal is still a bit expensive (even with the discount) and yes, it appears to take a while to get the code (I haven't got mine yet). However, it seems the salesrep is confident that they can get the code (which is important).

I have used www.code-unlocking.com. It ended with a refund (as they could not get the unlock code). code-unlocking.com may seem very cheap at first, but their ability to get the unlock code is questionable at best. Beware of those generic unlock sites with too good to be true price.

        • The "instantly unlock your mobile" should be a big warning. You won't get the correct unlock code from them. They just use a code calculator to quickly generate an unlock code based on the IMEI number. This is how it used to work for older models of mobile phones.

We specialise in the Australian market and know which phones can be unlocked by which methods. As mentioned in my post, LG phones can still be done cheaply and I suggested unlocking a LG phone from an eBay seller for a dollar or two. But this won't work for the majority of new phones.

Before placing this post, I checked our competitors and $15.99 is the cheapest price available for Telstra & Boost phones (other than HTC, LG & Huawei)

        • I see your site no different to code-unlocking.com. The only difference was they took 5.99 to tell me that they can't unlock whereas it was 15.99 for you to give me the same answer although it has been refunded promptly. I am not sure about 'we specialise in the Australian market and know which phones can be unlocked by which methods'. My phone 'telstra nokia asha 300' was in your list.

        • Hi, I am very sorry. I have checked your IMEI and we should be able to get the unlock code for it. It was rejected as we mistakenly had the Lumia 300 listed instead of the Lumia 610 in a list of phones that we can't unlock with this service. If you would like me to request the code for your phone please let me know your order number and I will get the unlock code and email you to make payment again after I have the code. It will take around 2 business days.

        • I have sent you PM

      • why is it so expensive? is the process more difficult or longer

        • Our prices are based on our cost prices so we don't really control it.

        • Imei unblocking is often swapping the logic board from another iphone as it is next to impossible to unblock the imei from the gov system.

        • Imei unblocking is often swapping the logic board from another iphone as it is next to impossible to unblock the imei from the gov system.

Mostly this is done via the Chinese criminal sites. They swap boards and phones between countries. As IMEI blocking is country specific.

Otherwise the stolen phones are just sold to buyers outside the country where they are blocked.

The new iPhone Activation Locking has stopped this practice. Now the stolen iPhones are sold for parts.

The OP does not appear to need access to the handsets. So, must have someone inside the AMTA and/or the carrier(s).

        • +1

Most businesses look also to their markets,
          in addition to their costs.

If they are unable to compete…
well, they soon learn to be more competitive…
or drop out of the race… ;-)

I hope you'll be one of the smart survivors.

        • Thanks for your support. As mentioned in other replies, I researched before posting this deal and $15.99 is the cheapest price available to unlock Telstra phones (except HTC, LG, Huawei). Of course some of the generic $1-$6 sites will say they can unlock all phones, but if you try them with a newer model phone you will either get the wrong code or an email that they can't get the unlock code for your phone.

  • Hello Rep,

How about unlocking the Telstra (Huawei Branded) E5372T Wifi Modem. Will that be $5.49 as well. Please confirm. I have to unlock a couple of them.

    • Yes it should work. I can't be 100% sure as we don't do many Huawei modems. Of course if it doesn't work you will receive a full refund. Please also note that you will need to connect the modem to your computer and go into the settings page etc to be able to enter the unlock code into the modem.

  • Hi Rep,
How much to unlock Telstra Frontier 4g?

    • -1

$15.99 using the discount code OZBARGAIN20

      • Then, why was I still charged $29.01?? I did enter the discount code.

        • Hi, I have added instructions to the top of this post on how to enter the unlock code. Our website discount code box is a little user unfriendly. I have already refunded the difference to you.

        • Thanks for your help. However, I am pretty sure I saw $15.99 during the checkout process (after applying the code). I did register for an account. I did not check the Paypal screen until the payment has been submitted.

  • How much is Telstra Smart Touch 2??

    • -2

$15.99 using the discount code OZBARGAIN20

  • StoreRep, discount wasn't applied. Your site still charged me $29.01.
Can you refund the difference or cancel my order asap?

    • +1

I found your order. I have refunded the difference $13.02 to your PayPal account.

      • Thanks. Pretty sure I saw $15.99 in one of the screens. Best for people to double check the PayPal screen.

        • Good idea. I have also added instructions to the top of the page about entering the unlock code to make it more clear for others.

  • Hey Rep, There's a few of us with "Motorola Defy+'s" that might want unlocking. Can we get a price?

    • Motorola MB526… There is also a software unlock method BUT you must upgrade firmware to a particular version of cyanogenmod.

LolwutMikka wrote a guide on it. It is a long process though.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82806

Alternatively, buy a $30 starter pack for $10 - sign up for long life plan. Call Telstra and use the $30 credit to unlock the phone.

    • Hi, our price is $15.95 - http://www.sydneyunlocking.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=14_…

Sorry, can't do any cheaper as this price is already low. You can alternatively unlock for free as netsurfer mentioned but its a bit of a long procedure.

  • Do you do USA AT&T or any iphones ?

    • Yes, but as of October last year the price increased dramatically:
      * $168 - iPhone 5C & 5S Slow service (6-22 business days)
      * $188 - iPhone 5C & 5S Fast service (2-5 business days)
      * $99 - iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5 Clean IMEI Out of Contract Service (6-16 business days)

    • iPhone unblocking (Removal from AMTA block list) - for Telstra/Optus/Vodafone. Great for anyone who bought a blocked phone from the recent Sydney Trains Lost Property Auction.

What if it was not purchased from any "Lost Property Auction", but is a Lost/Stolen phone?

Do the AMTA and/or Telstra/Optus/Vodafone know about you removing these IMEI numbers from the 'block' list? Or are you just using someone who has access to the database?

  • This seems very expensive

http://www.code-unlocking.com/ seem to offer unlocking of most phones for $5.99/- and payment is through Palpal. I have just applied to unlock a Sony Xperia E locked to Telstra (Boost Mobile) and have been charged $5.99/- will let you know how it goes.

I unlocked a Vodaphone pocketWiFi2 (Huwai) cellular modem for $1.99 off an eBay unlocking code 6 months ago and it worked a treat. Unsure why these unlocks cost so much more.

    • This site will not give you the correct unlock code for a Boost Sony Xperia E. They are an International site that list every mobile phone in the market and just use a code calculator to generate a code quickly. If you request an old phone unlock code then you may get the correct code. But for new phones, they won't work.

We specialise in the Australian market and know which phones can be unlocked by which methods. As mentioned in my post, LG phones can still be done cheaply and I suggested unlocking a LG phone from an eBay seller for a dollar or two. But this won't work for Sony Xperia phones.

I have seen this site many times as we often have customers come to us after not being able to get the unlock code from them.

      • Hi OP,

Now you are back will you please respond to my comments above?

        Thanks.

    • Unlock service deals for specific phone model generally are okay.

Wish you luck with code-unlocking.com. I tried them once a year or two ago. They could not get me the unlock code. It took a few days to get the refund and since then I have not bothered with them (it was a complete waste of my time last time).

  • How does unlocking even work? Do they have to crack a code using the IMEI number?

    • This is how it worked in the old days. You could use a code calculator as the unlock code was generated from the IMEI number. These days unlock codes are random and need to be got from either the manufacturer or the network. As such they cost more.

      • Rep, i see that you are still online.

Also, I am intrigued by your ability to remove the carrier unlock from iPhones that are locked to TELSTRA and are IMEI Blocked as Lost/Stolen on the AMTA database. Is this legal? I realise that this would then allow for the sale of these phones to someone for use outside Australia.

        • There is always a possibility for someone to misuse the service. But by not offering the service, people who legitimately acquire blocked iPhones (usually through auctions such as the Sydney Trains auction or previously when they were returned as unclaimed from the Police) would not be able to use the phones that they should be able to use.

So, you do not ask for any receipt or other evidence that the phone was legally acquired?

You just remove the IMEI Block when paid to do so?

        • If the iPhone runs iOS 7 and the original owner has iCloud and find my iPhone set, reset or unblock the IMEI won't be enough. Apple won't let you use the phone unless the original owner put in his/her iTunes account password. Reset the phone or put the phone in DFU mode won't work.

You definitely need to buy a non-stolen, legit 2nd hand iPhone. Otherwise, you simply cannot activate the iPhone.

Yes. I covered this above in a previous comment post. Where I noted that - "Now the stolen iPhones are sold for parts."

It seems to me that the removal of the IMEI numbers of lost/stolen phones from the AMTA 'blacklist' must be unlawful. As would be the removal of the carrier lock of a stolen (IMEI Blocked) phone.

I can understand the removal of the IMEI from the 'blacklist' of a phone legally obtained - eg. from a Lost Property Auction - after all avenues of contacting the legal owner have failed. However, this should be done lawfully after proof of purchase from said auction is provided.

        • -1

I believe all the services we offer are lawful. In Australian it is illegal to change the IMEI number of a phone. Your earlier suggestion of requiring more proof of purchase sounds like a good idea to me to prevent people from abusing the service and I have provided this to our Manager.

        • I believe all the services we offer are lawful.

What is your basis for this belief?

Do you know just how your business removes IMEI Numbers from the 'Blacklist'?

Do you know how your business removes the Carrier Lock from an IMEI Blocked phone - for example a phone carrier locked to Telstra?

Can you imagine any way that this could be done legally by your business?

  • Hi, Rep, how much is it to unlock a Telstra Elite Wi-Fi 3G ZTE MF60?

    • +1

Go to a Telstra store and get it unlocked for free. This is/was quite well known when MF60 bargains were posted.

      Telstra unlocked mine for free.

    • We can unlock it for $15.99 using the OZBARGAIN20 discount code. netsurfer mentions that you can unlock it for free at a Telstra store. I don't have any knowledge of his method but may be worth looking into.

      • I went to 4 different Telstra stores and was told to ring up Telstra. They couldn't unlock it at the stores. I even spoke to 2 of the managers. I think it's a hit & miss. I won't bother trying anymore. Rep, do you have the link to unlock ZTE MF60? I can't find it in your site.

        • You can unlock any Telstra phone/modem (except iPhone) using this link: http://www.sydneyunlocking.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=15_…

Note for modems you will need to connect the modem to your computer & login to the settings page etc to be able to enter your unlock code.

        • Can your store performs the unlocking of ZTE MF60 while I wait for $15.99?

        • You can unlock it at the store but the price is $35.

  • +2

Free to unlock ZTE MF60 here if anyone is interested

    https://sites.google.com/site/mf60guide/

  • Do you unlock a Motorola RAZR M? which is locked to the telstra network and what will be the price?

    Thanks

    • We should be able to unlock it for $15.99 using the OZBARGAIN20 code.

  • Hi Rep,

I am having Prepaid Boost(Telstra)Sony Xperia E mobile. The mobile has the following information in SIM Lock info,

    [0] Network 14
    [x] Network Subnet 0
    [x] Service Provider 0

Can you please tell me whether this mobile can be unlocked?

    Regards,
    Kiran

    • I believe this is indicating your phone is Network locked and you still have 14 attempts to enter the unlock code. So Yes you can unlock this mobile with our service.

  • Rep, are you able to unlock prepaid Telstra Roamer zte 116a, if so how much?
Bought the phone for $10 :)

    • Unfortunately the unlock code is more expensive than the phone :( $15.99 using the OZBARGAIN20 code.

      • Just ordered on your website via payapl.
        Thanks

      • Unfortunately…..

        Yup, anyway.

I note that you reply to all these messages, but not this one->

I believe all the services we offer are lawful.

What is your basis for this belief?

Can you imagine any way that this could be done legally by your business?

Well, I can't and I have just spoken with the AMTA who confirm that this should not be possible and must be being done by some Telstra/Optus/Vodafone staffer(s) illegally accessing the database.

I am making a more formal report in writing to the AMTA so an investigation can be started.

        • -2

There is legislation in Australia to prevent IMEI numbers of phones being changed. As far as I am aware, there is not any legislation about blocking or unblocking of phones so I am not sure why you keep referring to legal and illegal in terms of IMEI blocking/unblocking.

        • There is not any legislation about blocking or unblocking of phones.

I believe the illegality would be more about just how and for what reasons the database is being accessed.

Do you know how your business removes IMEI Numbers from the 'Blacklist'?

Do you know how your business removes the Carrier Lock from an IMEI Blocked phone - for example a phone carrier locked to Telstra?

Can you imagine any way that this could be done legally/legitimately by your business?

I am informed by the AMTA that the only legitimate way is for the original legal owner of the IMEI 'blocked' phone (that is the person or business that had the IMEI block implemented) to approach the carrier and to request that the IMEI block be removed.

Are you saying that the AMTA is lying to me?

          EDIT:
Here is some additional information from the Vodafone.com.au website.

"Only the owner who reported the phone lost or stolen can request to remove an IMEI block. This is requested though the carrier with whom they made the report
If a blocked phone has been purchased through a police auction house, you’ll need to supply Vodafone with the receipt of purchase from the police auction to have the IMEI bar removed"

        • AMTA is an organisation that has members. They may have policies that are agreed to by their members. We are not required to be a member nor are a member of the AMTA. The AMTA does not make legislation. They may of course suggest legislation as like any citizen or organisation may suggest legislation to their local member etc.

Many people who legitimately acquire blocked iPhones (usually through auctions such as the Sydney Trains auction or previously when they were returned as unclaimed from the Police) are unable to use their phone unless they use our services (or one of our competitors). We believe AMTA has failed in this area of unblocking as if they had a easier approach, we would not need to provide this service.

I can't reveal our suppliers etc as this is commercial information.

I have responded to many of your posts on this page but I believe they are off-topic to this deal which is Telstra unlock codes for $15.99. Please continue to contact AMTA if you wish about general unblocking questions as these are outside of our scope for support.

This is the policy of the carriers. For example Vodafone:-

"Only the owner who reported the phone lost or stolen can request to remove an IMEI block. This is requested though the carrier with whom they made the report"

"If a blocked phone has been purchased through a police auction house, you’ll need to supply Vodafone with the receipt of purchase from the police auction to have the IMEI bar removed"

You have admitted that you are currently 'unblocking' blocked IMEI numbers without any proof of ownership and/or purchase from any auction.

  • Rep, let's get back to the topic.

The main reason I purchased your unlock service was because I "thought" you would provide the unlock code quickly.

Where is my unlock code? Why is it taking so long? What is your cancellation policy?

    • As per my post & the product information page on our website:
"Usually codes are provided within 1-2 business days (Mon-Fri) but please allow up to 4 business days."

You ordered late last night. Your order was processed this morning. There is a good chance your unlock code will be available tomorrow. But as per the stated timeframe please allow up to a maximum of 4 business days. We don't generate the code using a calculator etc. We need to get the unlock code from the network or manufacturer.

    • Hi netsurfer, I checked your order and can see the unlock code was emailed to you this morning.

      • I thought the same that the unlock codes will be posted immd. :(
My order was paid for and placed yesterday #1667

        • Hi SlipKnot, I have checked your order and it seems we may not be able to get the unlock code for your phone. Yours is the first 116a Roamer that we have tried to unlock by code. We got a strange response for your phone and submitted an inquiry to try and get the correct code and will have a definite result by Tuesday. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in Sydney I would offer to unlock it for the same cost at our store as we have done them before physically. Let me know if you would prefer to cancel now as we can do so.

        • That's fine I will wait. I just thought iteas instantaneous sort of unlock code.
By the way I have access to the 8 and 12 digit code generators but they don't work for my phone as it requires a 16 digit code.

        • Alright want my money back now.

      • Okay… unlock code works.

If you post the deal after hours, perhaps add 1 more day to when you expect to be able to provide the code. In the past, when I purchased unlock service from feeBay or credit to use DC-Unlock, I was able to get the unlock code within 12 hours (and for DC-Unlock, immediate unlock). While I can understand certain phones might be harder to unlock, I am under the impression the phone I want you to unlock is one of the easy ones.
