V.me Service & Privacy Policy Update

With all the V.me posts & bargains recently, thought I should share an email I received regarding a policy update. It may be nothing, but worth a read anyway…

Dear tightarse,

Since the launch of V.me by Visa, we’ve been hard at work providing you with a simple and secure way to pay at your favourite eCommerce sites. We’re writing to make you aware of upcoming changes we’ll be making to V.me to extend the service to even more top merchants, where you shop online and by mobile device. Rest assured, you’ll continue to enjoy the convenience of entering only your email address and password at checkout.

All changes will be reflected in an updated Privacy Policy, but the key changes you should be aware of include:

Transaction History: We will no longer provide your V.me purchase transaction history on the V.me website. As always, you will continue to receive order details from merchants and payment transaction detail directly from the financial institution that issued your payment card.

Payment Card Account Number: Visa may provide your full payment card account number to merchants and their transaction service providers when you pay using V.me. Visa is leveraging its wealth of experience in security and information handling, using advanced security technologies such as industry standard encryption and multilayer authentication, to protect the information as it is stored and communicated.

Information Sharing and Use: The V.me Privacy Policy was updated to clarify our relationship with participating merchants and their service providers and your issuer with regard to sharing of data. Visa provides information to these entities for the purpose of facilitating your V.me transactions and as described in the Privacy Policy. Please note that these parties may have their own privacy policies governing how they will use and disclose personal information. We recommend that you review the privacy policies for those with whom you interact to learn about their practices.

You will receive another email notifying you when these changes take effect. If you’d like to preview the upcoming Privacy Policy, visit https://www.v.me/preview.

We are hard at work building new payment solutions that promise to bring the simplicity and confidence of swiping your payment card to all of your online and mobile shopping experiences.

If you have any questions about your V.me account, please contact us at [email protected].

Thank you,

V.me by Visa

Interesting. "Payment Card Account Number: Visa may provide your full payment card account number to merchants and their transaction service providers when you pay using V.me"

Um, I thought the whole point of V.me was so that the merchant wouldn't see you card details? Very strange.

I thought the whole point of V.me was so that the merchant wouldn't see your card details

I agree! Time to delete the account I reckon.

  • +3

yeah saw that email too, defeats the whole purpose of using it, deleting my details ..

  • Isn't vme ex actually like PayPal? Now they're selling our details to scoopon! BOO!

  • I have already closed my V.me account!

  • +3

Yep, just deleted my account too. V.me and Scoopon can both go screw themselves. But I'll still post any of their bargains I find. Cheers all.

  • I can't see how to delete the account? Account settings? Is there a button that says delete account?

    • +6

Follow these steps and it should be straight forward (this is what I just did)

      • Remove the card information shown on the login page
      • Click 'Customer Support' at the top
      • Select 'Troubleshooting' on the left
      • Select 'Problem With Your Account'
      • Scroll down the 'Close your account' and click the link to 'Close Your Account' (https://www.v.me/customer_support/troubleshooting?locale=en-…)
      • Enter password
      • Account closed… Bye bye v.me, thanks for the 1c movie tickets and cheap westfield voucher
      • thanks for the 1c movie tickets

        didn't you ask scoopon for a 1c refund? :)

        • the time it would have taken to write the email was worth more to me than the 1c ;)

        • +1

you are not a true ozbargainer!

        • +1

A true ozbargainer would spend the time getting that 1c back into searching for a deal that will save your more than just 1c.

        • thanks for your two cents worth

        • "I'm pleased to advise that your purchase processing fee of $0.01 has now been refunded in full to the V.Me account used at the time of purchase. Although this may happen sooner, please allow 5-7 business days for the funds to appear in your account.

We hope you are happy with the outcome today."

          very. lol

is there an ozbargain award category for stingiest act? :)

        • We hope you are happy with the outcome today.

          that sounds very passive-aggressive..

      • Thank you.

      • Thanks! You saved me the hassle of searching the site!

  • Bye V.me

They're going backwards. Thought they had a chance to compete with Paypal…guess not.

  • +1

The business about not providing a transaction history is troubling.

  • +3

    Never trusted V.me
Sad to say paypal is still without competition.

thanks..cancelled. for some reason my confirmation page was in french. yeah nice try v.me

  • easy come, easy go.
    a/c closed.

  • i think you are all over-reacting. simply do not purchase anything using v.me if you are concerned about your card details being shared.

v.me still provides a very useful notification service for authorisations on your card (independent of the v.me payments).

    • +1

what's the point of v.me if i don't use it to pay things? i'd rather not have a third party help me with notifications of authorisations. i can check that myself without giving out my card details..

      • is visa really a 3rd party? visa cards are issued by visa, transactions are processed by visa, v.me is a run by visa.

i can check that myself without giving out my card details..

real-time notifications in your inbox vs having to periodically manually log in to an online banking site to checking. i know which one i am sticking with.

    • v.me still provides a very useful notification service for authorisations

sounds useful, but i do not see it or google it.

      How?

      • +1

it's in the payment method "tab" under Manage alerts
you just have to set it to on or something similar.
You can set an amount and they'll notify you whenever a purchase is made using that card anywhere (even if you don't use VME to make the purchases). Say you go to mcdonalds and have the setting to email you for any purchase you'll get one from that purchase. I'm still not sure how they're able to do this or if maybe because I'm using a visa thats how?

        • I'm using a MasterCard and an American Express card, and I do not see "Manage Alerts" at all. Must be a Visa-only thing.

        • Must be a Visa-only thing.

i thought that was taken for granted, as v.me is owned by visa

        • I tried to do this (a great feature!) but it just says:
"We're experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again."
          Anyone else have this problem?

  • Went to close my account and it spat something back to me in French!
