Hey guys,

Was going through Amazon to find some cheap MEelectronics M6P/S6P when i found this still in my cart…

The price is the same as the deal i posted last time shipped. About $79 cheaper then MSY, although since its Amazon, warranty might be a pain in the butt…

The cheapest this SSD has been is US$514 according to CamelCamelCamel, whilst this deal is US$529 excl. shipping.

For those interested, enjoy =)

P.S. i have no idea how long this goes for…

No idea how long that's going to take =... i bit when shoppingexpress was doing the 250 for $169… it's sitting in my room… still waiting for the pcie cage to come in so i can put it in and use it…

I'm a big fan of SSDs. It's probably the simplest, although not necessarily the cheapest, thing you can do to get a very noticeable performance boost.

Got the 500GB version of this. It's a pretty nice drive, definitely a good performance boost from my old Intel 520 series.

Out of curiosity, what is it you do that you notice a difference between the two SSDs?

      • Boot time is quicker and programs open quicker. The 520 of course opened programs and booted the PC quick enough but there is a noticeable improvement there. I didn't get the EVO for a speed upgrade though, I got it for more space (the 520 was only 120GB).

        • Is it because you restored the windows? :)

I'd bet that it was noticeable because he went from a full SSD to a mostly empty SSD, which gives the SSD room to optimise itself.

        • Old SSD had about 30GB free space.

        • I stand corrected (and great discipline, I struggle to keep 40GB free in my 500GB SSD).

        • Didn't have many games installed on it. Wanted the capacity upgrade so I could actually fit a decent number of games on my SSD.
I find disabling hibernation and page file the easiest way to free up some wasted space. Depending on how much RAM people have, this is either going to make an insignificant difference or a massive difference.
I've got 16GB, so I saved around 30GB by doing this.

        • I do the same, but sometimes when I run a 14GB app on my 32GB system that has 27GB free, I get allocation failures, so I suspect that no pagefile prevents Windows from defragging the memory.

        • It's not advised to entirely remove. Instead, resize it down to 'nothing'. ie: 1MB or whatever you'd like.

      • so there are different types of ssd's and significant speed differences in speed in those types?

  • Can anyone recommend a 2.5 to 3.5 inch bay converter?

    • You could also give these ago… i ordered one and am waiting for it to arrive before i can put my SSD in… these look sturdy enough for an SSD and if you have no bay's left it makes space at the PCIE slots.

    • I've found that you can simply screw most SSDs into an unused CD-ROM or 3.5HD bay on most cases. Usually the bays will have a mounting channel (instead of just screw holes). Basically screw the drive to this channel by the screw holes on its side so that it cantilevers out into the bay. The drives are usually very light so I don't think this harms the plastic casing, and it is probably good for heat dissipation since the drive has only one surface that isn't in contact with the air. Has worked for me so far anyway…

I have this in my tower and it's fantastic:

Also keep an eye on the Crucial M500 960gb. They often go to 435usd to 460usd ex shipping

    • I bought crucial SSD from Amazon last month during sale. Windows 8 didn't recognize this drive while installing. Still troubleshooting. Not straight forward as I thought.

      • Windows didn't recognise the SSD or your SATA controller?

  • Hey, How would warranty work if it dies in the first year ?????

    • +2

Seeing as the warranty would be with/through Amazon, i'd expect you would have to pay for shipping it back to them for warranty. Which to be honesty might kinda of kill the deal IF it dies easily… however, SSDs are supposed to be longer lasting then HDD since it has no moving parts…

  • How long would delivery normally take? Need one fairly urgently, and CPL have them for $682…

    • +1

I personally haven't ordered from Amazon… but i'd say at least 6-9 days according to their estimation… perhaps someone who have ordered from them before can assist you.

    • +1

My experience with their standard shipping has been between 15-30 days.

      • Thanks, will go with CPL. Though if it fails, I'd rather deal with Amazon US than the nasty lady at CPL. :)

    Hi all,

For those interested, here's a guide on how to use your SSD (and HDD) to the best of their abilities with windows 7 (the guy also has a guide for windows 8). It might be worthwhile to know what functions needs to be activated and which ones you should avoid.

    Hope this helps!
