Vita Brits 1 Kg $2.25 (Less Than 1/2 Price, Was $4.59) at Woolworths

140

Uncle Tobys Vita Brits 1 kg box for $2.25 (less than 1/2 price, was $4.59) at Woolworths. Listed on page 12 of the Weekly Specials Catalogue.

They used to have this price every few months but haven't for a while unless I missed the last one. Coles also have the same price every few months, so they may have it at the same time otherwise you could ask them to price match it.

I much prefer Vita Brits to Weet-Bix (or the home brand equivalents which are 1.12 kg for $3.19 [$2.85 per kg). They're a more natural looking brown colour with a soft flaky texture compared to Weet-Bix which are bone coloured with a hard dry texture.

This price makes Vita Brits the cheapest breakfast cereal you can buy from Woolworths except for Home Brand Rolled/Quick Oats (Porridge) 750 g for $1.19 [$1.59 per kg). So if you want to save money, buy enough to last until winter and stack the boxes in the corner of your cupboard. The usual expiry dates IIRC are from 6 to 12 months ahead.

    Far superior to Weetbix IMHO

Thanks for the information about when the specials usually occur. We recently started to use this cereal on a regular basis. We got some late last year at Coles for half price and are on our last box. The timing of this special is almost perfect. All we need now is a nice offer from Everyday Rewards to save even more.

I think Vitabrits has no sugar added whereas Weetbix does?

There is a table in the article comparing sugar/fat/fibre/etc…
    http://foodwatch.com.au/blog/family-and-kids/item/how-to-buy…

Only difference that I can tell between the 2 is the sugar content.

    • One of the reasons we changed to Vita Brits from generic Wheat Biscuits was the lower sugar content of Vita Brits.

      • So long as you're not spooning it on at home! :-0

        • My husband stopped putting sugar on his cereal a couple of years ago.

When we introduced cereal to our children at a very young age we didn't put any sugar on it so they learnt to eat cereal without sugar and haven't complained about it.

I don't have cereal very often but when I do I put some sugar on it but eat it away from the children so they don't see what I am doing.

        • What? You're supposed to put sugar in cereal? O_o

I've been putting blueberry in mine.

      FYI

Vitabrits = Uncle Tobys = subsidiary of multinational Nestlé, where the profits are sent overseas.

Weetbix = Sanitarium = owned by an Australian religious organisation, Seventh-day Adventist Church. They don't pay company tax.

  • ah crap, just bought this yesterday

You could try bringing it back for a credit of the difference. Is this likely to succeed, any staff here?

(Or just return it for X reason and buy it again at sale price — a little dodgy.)
