Seems to be the cheapest its been, was $948 at the last deal, good price on a haswell i7 but some limitations: no touch, low res, slow hard drive, only 4GB RAM.
Positives: Best Processor, large hard drive, Great graphics card for mid level gaming, nice design.

  • Seems like a pretty great deal actually… do we know weight / thickness of laptop?

Battery Pack & Life 4 Cell
      Dimension & Weight 34.8 x 24.1 x 2.48 ~3.17 cm (WxDxH)

I can't see an I7 and discrete raphics lastin too lon with a 4 cell battery .

        • Yeah 6 cell would have been better, but Haswell is pretty light on the power draw, especially on power saving modes.

I always recommend a light, cheapo laptop for work/uni and a separate desktop at home for serious gaming, but I can see someone needing something like this for Photoshop on the go, etc.

Swap the HDD for a $100 SSD and it's a pretty nice machine. GPU should play games smoothly, especially on that low-res screen, if not always at max or high settings.

Haswells have low power consumption when on idle, so it's actually not as bad as you'd think.

you need a new keyboard with a functional "g" key

        • or remap them using sharpkeys http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/map-any-key-to-… or use the onscreen keyboard ;)

Hence why I'm lookin at laptop deals :)
I have actually installed a virtual keyboard but its a pain and I'm over it now .

        • It may not cost as much as you think to get your local repair shop to replace the keyboard. Wouldn't hurt to ask them for a quote. But new laptops are good too :P

        • It's an old Lenovo T500 . I fiure it's time to let it o .

  • How easy would it be to get this and replace the HD with an SSD?

Would it be worth getting MSY to do it?

    • An SSD would do wonders for the speed of the laptop. Does anyone know how user accessible the RAM and HDD is? Also does anyone know if it has an mSATA slot?

    • Replacing a hard disk on most notebooks are pretty easy.
I haven't done it on this one but it's pretty straight forward with a small screwdriver once you located where the hard disk is.

The screen res is the only let down for me 1366 x 768

  • does it has numeric attached with the keyboard?? i am kinda used to the numeric keyboard now.

    • Do you think they could fit one on a 14" laptop?

  • Anyone got any idea about battery life? I know haswell's are better than previous ones, but I really only want a laptop if it has 5+ hours battery life.

    • at an educated guess i would say that this would get you 5 hours. just. less if you were gaming of course.
