    They are so ridiculously cheap on eBay that I ended up buying three 'no-name' ones from a Hong Kong seller (myhkeshop): small (<25kg @ 5gr, for $1), medium (<40kg @ 10gr, for $1.15) and a larger D-shaped one (<50kg @ 10gr, for $9.89). Test weights correlate surprisingly well between them.

      You've got modern electronics to thank for that. They're probably based on strain gauges rather than imprecise springs.

  Jaycar have them for $19.95 normally, I was caught out in Gold Coast and checked shopbot, they came up at a decent price. I've now lost it though, sigh

  We bought the Salter ones from one of the deals posted here and took them to Tasmania with us recently.

  We discovered at the airport coming home that they were out by a whopping 2.5 kg. Fortunately we were able to juggle some of the extra weight accross to our hand luggage.

    Funny how airlines are so strict on luggage limits, but they watch you take 1 item from one bag and put it in to another..
