Most of Android devices bundle with limited memory. Android task manager will selectively kill low priority tasks in order to reserve memory to higher priority task. That’s not always run at an appropriate time, causing low responsive apps, lagging, especially when you launch a new app after heavily browsing web pages. It causes a worse experience.

How RAM Booster works

RAM Booster is designed to overcome these issues by selectively kill less important apps that are running in the background but consumes considerable device’s memory.

RAM Booster comes with auto-boost in 4 levels: aggressive, strong, medium, gentle.

☆ Aggressive: kill most of low priority apps
☆ Strong: Kill apps that is low priority as well as consume lightly below an “average”
☆ Medium: kill apps that consumes memory above an “average”
☆ Gentle: kill only apps that uses considerable memory

“Average” is evaluated real-time based on running apps and change over time.

How to work RAM Booster

There are 5 ways to boost
☆ Auto-boost: boost automatically under RAM available & timing conditions
☆ Overlay widget – Enable RAM Booster overlay widget (on by default), adjust widget’s position, and tap on widget to boost anytime you want
☆ Home screen widget – one tap to boost (long-press your home screen>Widget to add RAM Booster widget)
☆ Notification bar – one tap to boost (toggle notification bar visibility in app’s setting)
☆ Boost Now – tap this button from app’s main screen
☆ Widgets, fast reboot, running apps manager

I would not bother to install an app that is almost 2 years old.

The version in Amazon is 2.11 released on 09 Jun 2012.
The current version in Google Play is 2.2 released on 20 Jan 2014.

    • Don't forget you can update this one free later when new version available on Amazon.

Go to Amazon app store> my apps > updates

  • Not free if you have amazon US account

    • Change your Click+collect account in to a AU one.

    • missed business opportunity there, I'm sure they could make millions with this

Is there any point to these RAM apps? They will just clear cache and 5mins later you'll be back to the way it was because that's the way the operating systems are designed to work (to cache to speed up activities). I think they are more psychological than anything plus you are adding another app to memory. eg. http://lifehacker.com/5862994/real-world-test-show-that-andr…

      ^ This

Who do you think rate these Apps… A bunch of people clueless about how things work in Andriod!

    • +1

Well when you uninstall it you get extra memory - free!

    • they will just clear cache

If you had used this app, you would realise this does not "just clear cache". It does kill unwanted running apps… that I didn't realise were operating. (You set which apps are not to be affected when Boosting.) I know how to check for these apps, but am a bit lazy to keep an eye on them constantly.

Rather than give an expert opinion on something I have not tried, I will give it a go & uninstall if unnecessary.

That link was from over 2 years ago, discussing Android 1.6, so may not be that relevant. Still interesting.

Seems to improve performance on my bottom of the RAM range $25 Huawei Y201, but so should a Restart. Should be unnecessary if your phone has lots of RAM, and you can manually kill unwanted running apps.

I've got 4 Android devices from an HTC Wildfire, which barely had enough memory to update the built-in apps(!), to a Galaxy S4. I've tried a few of these apps and read a fair bit to see if they are useful. No Android Dev forums recommend using task killer apps to try and improve performance. They state the opposite. Android has been designed to make the most of memory and doesn't need our help.

Even more relevant that an old article highlights it's not recommended (when phones had much less memory and performance was am even greater issue). Later articles are consistent in their stance.

        Summarising:
"When your phone runs out of memory, Android will automatically start killing tasks on its own, starting with ones that you haven't used in a while."

"…you shouldn’t use a task killer – if you have a misbehaving app wasting resources in the background, you should identify it and uninstall it. But don’t just remove apps from your phone or tablet’s RAM – that doesn’t help speed anything up."

PS. Don't defrag your Android device either. There are legitimate ways to improve performance. Try this to identify badly performing apps instead.

      • Tried, uninstalled - useless.

  • Computing technologies really are cyclical aren't they. All the problems we had to work through in the 90's are seeing new life in mobile technology.

    • +2

Not really, the problems are just being unnecessarily perpetuated by the ignorant.

      • +1

        Just like in the 90s..

  • root + greenify = all you need.
