FANJ14

Hare and Forbes Machinery house are having a sale on fans, good timing with this hot weather.

To get the cheaper rate you need to order online, they offer click and collect or you can also have it sent but that cost more and will negate some of the savings. When you order online you get a response back pretty quickly from them confirming stock and ok to pick up. The stock levels do show online but I have had it be incorrect before.

If you have not shopped online with them before you will need to sign up, its free and just a basic form

  • With the summer heat in Perth one of these baby's would get me to sleep quicker than reverse cycle I reckon. Zero chance of convincing the boss though; might clash with the "decor".

  • Hmm Might get one for my bedroom.

  • brother in law has the pedestal, good for shed/garage

  • The blade design on the pedestal one is very odd, I'd want to see how noisy that is before dropping any coin on it.

    • ive got one that looks exactly the same as the pedestal… when you use it its like a helicopter is taking off! Great for outside/shed use…. or a I guess anywhere inside in a large space… does move the air though!!

    • I bought a 75cm industrial fan from Mitre 10 the other day with similar small blades. It's like an aeroplane in my bedroom. Even on the lowest setting I have to turn my TV up excessively loud to hear it and on the highest setting you couldn't even watch TV. It's now relegated to my gym room as it's too noisy for use like a normal pedestal fan.

      • Yes these are INDUSTRIAL fans and not suitable for house hold use. Only time I would see it useful in your living room is if you had a party since noise would be of little concern

You might get away with the 45cm floor fan, the blade design is quieter. Flat blades are noisier. This design is common and price is similar to what you would get from HN, GG etc.

The bigger the radius (curve) at the tip the quieter the fan will be.

Some of the newer fans aimed at even lower noise will have a serrated edge.

The other thing is they will all use a fair bit of juice, basically way over kill

Something to look into is the vornado 660, They have a diffuser similar to the pc air penetrator fans and are supposed to be really good. You cant get them from the US due to the voltage and Oz ones are expensive. Cheapest I could find was $90 from tvsn but no stock.

        • I put a voltage reducer box thingo off ebay on mine. Its used to control ahem hydroponics fans. I can dial in any speed I want, the lowest speed on my 75cm was way too loud, now I can control it perfectly. It really moves some air around.

        • Do you have a link to what you purchased?

I'm looking at this (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171108232054) and putting it into a box to be safe. Or did you buy a item you could just plug in?

        • Mine is more like this…
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Australian-Made-FAN-SPEED-control…

But mine is branded "EziPlug", I can't find mine on eBay anymore. 500W should be enough, I think my fan pulls 300W at full speed. But with the controller you only run it at slowest speed (150W max) and lower it from there. My controller has been working fine for over 2 years like this.

  • Excited about an industrial fan, (i mean who wouldn't be) I did a quick google on prices

Every price came back as the normal price so what's the deal?

    EDIT: Oh, with code …
