SONY NEX-6 Mirrorless Camera with 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 Lens $679.15 JB-HIFI

90

The cheapest you can find locally in Australia. The web says plenty of stock in NSW.

The price was down from $899 before Christmas to $799 and now with 15% off sale cameras till Monday becomes $679.15

I bought mine before Christmas during their similar 15% off sale and quite impressed so far.

  • I've been tempted to get one of these as they've been on sale a lot recently, however there's a new NEX-7 (and possibly NEX-6) replacement due for announcement in the coming weeks/months. Currently have a NEX-5N which has served me well. Very good price!

    • Just curious what's the reasoning to upgrade from the 5N
      Is there much difference?
Had my NEX-5N for about a year and have been very happy with it

      • quite some difference though, 5N has touchscreen isn't it? 6 doesn't.

And nex-6 comes with EVF, physical mode dial, hotshoe, built-in flash, and for me the right hand grip is more solid than the nex-5.

Pic quality might be better than 5N, not sure if 5N has Hybrid phase AF with 99 focus points.

      • I bought my NEX-5N as I knew I wouldn't use a viewfinder (there were some other cameras I was contemplating purchasing at the time)… After using it for a while, I've found there are times where a viewfinder would be useful - eg outdoors on sunny days, the screen doesn't quite cut it.

  • This is a fantastic camera. Yes there are always new ones coming out but don't hesitate to buy it if you want to get into the hobby.

The only downside? Well you're locked into the NEX lens ecosystem (unless you use converters, and then you have to go back 3 decades and adjust your apertures manually, etc). You're going to be locked into something anyway.

Unless you plan to become a professional then this is as good a place as any to start.

    • you can get canon ef adapter (costly though) and retain automatic functions

  • Sony just released the new Alpha 5000 few weeks ago, but Nex-6 still miles better.

They just dropped the NEX naming and this one is replacing the Nex-3N.

  • Good find. But for some the triple lens kit might be a better option: http://teds.com.au/sony-nex-6.

    • wow… that's tempting

      999 for 3 lenses!

      • Before Christmas it even includes the bag and SD card:

        http://www.teds.com.au/media/clubted/nex6_w1_d1.pdf

$320 extra for additional 2 lenses are not bad.

However I bought the 55-210 zoom lens for $150 along with the cam from JB back in December, it was part of their special bundle offer for Sony cam.

        • I missed out on the TLK with the bonus bag and SD card and decided to go for the next best option: ~$999.99 at Digital Camera Warehouse with the bonus bag but without any SD card. When I finally made up my mind they changed the price to $1129 and shortly after removed the bonus bag too as part of the offer. Then I looked at the TLK from Teds (again) but without the bag and the SD card and convinced myself to wait and see what the new line of ILCs from Sony looks like or perhaps get the A7 instead when the price is right.

    • +1

Slightly cheaper at Videopro with Free shipping too.

Their FF Nex is also on sale. Not too bad I guess for a new model.

      • We're talking about different bundles here, this post is for the single lens kit which your store has it for much more expensive $796:

        http://www.videopro.com.au/p-5655-sony-nex6lb-compact-camera…

        • My post was a reply to IslandStyle who brought up the deal with Teds.

        • And someone created a different post for the 3 lens kit:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/131394

2 different products with $320 price difference.

        • Again, I was not replying to your original post. It was to IslandStyle who brought up the 3 lens kit. I could have made it clearer but I didn't. My reply was a reply to his post as you can see from the chain of reply.

Yes someone did create a post for the 3 lens kit but it was done later on and I have mentioned in that post about Videopro as well. If that post was not created, no one will know about it. Some people who are interested in this camera would probably like to know of the option of the 3 lens kit. After all this is the same camera but different bundle.

      • I almost bought an NEX-6 but I'm not so sure if I'll like the menu system so the A7 seems like a decent step-up.

        • +1

The guy at JB said A7 picture quality will be much better than previous nex series, looking at the price of A7 and A7R >$1K, that's what I'd expect too.

        • well a7 is full frame….
