Four 40g Mars Bars for $1 - Save $2.56 - Coles NSW

500

So I was in line at my local Coles in Gosford buying lentil patties, when I notice the old lady in front of me was buying mars bars. I thought it was odd her buying so many of them so I watched the screen to see the price of each of them, as I felt like a mars bar anyway. They scanned as 1 dollar for all 4 of them. Wow! I was surprised of this amazing bargain, so I dropped everything I had and quickly ran to the confectionery isle to hopefully pick up as many as I could. I satisfactorily cleaned out every mars bar left on the shelf, totaling $5 for 20 mars bars. I then quickly snapped a picture in anticipation of uploading it on ozbargain.

It's worth checking your local coles to see if this is available to you.

If you're wondering how big the 40g mars bars are, look at the Mars Red Bars to the left of the normal ones. As they are 37g, the ones on special are slightly bigger.

    Quite a nice story :p

These mars bar prices are getting cheaper and cheaper, however ive found most coles stores are cleared out.

I'm not sure I would trust a bargain from someone who claims they were simply & innocently buying lentil patties.

How do we know that you weren't really there buying junk food?

pshhh…lol just noticed the box is emptyy =(

all shops are pretty much sold out

    • Because I emptied the store :P

  • I applaud you for the dedication you have to this site, Broden …love the details of your story :D

Voting up for the good story telling.

  • Positive for the quality of the bargain… but moreso the story! Haha love it. The picture is just the icing on the cake

  • probably a local store only thing, by the looks of that tag, they are out of date on 10/6 right?

    • On the Mars Bar it says 20/07/09.

  • +1 for OzBargain spirit!

It's true OzBargain spirit when one makes sure one empties out the shop BEFORE one tells other about it! ;p

    love it…

  • Good deal, gonna check Coles again on monday to see if they have any mars bars left.
It reminds me of a deal a few weeks ago of Ferrero Rocher 250g boxes for $1 at Coles in Mentone. They expired within the week, but tasted great, I managed to snag 3, 1 for mum for mother's day and kept 2 with mates.

The funny thing was, we checked the same Coles in the morning and found out they restocked the shelves with 'clearance' Rochers which expired within the month for $10.

I got this from one of the Knox City (VIC)Coles stores 3 weeks ago and also bought 20!

    • I'm glad to hear it isn't just at my local store.

      • Our SA Cole local store didn't have this promo :(

  • How about Mars RED?

  • I thoroughly enjoyed your story Broden. I look forward to your next Coles expedition!

Mars are clearing out old stock anyway as they new packaging weighs lesser. eg Bounty share pack has gone from 234g to 168g, Mars from 252g to 216, Milky Way from 280g to 216g etc etc….

Nice work - plenty at Hornsby even after I bought 56……

    Best before 20/07/09 like Broden's

With 4 people eating them they are not going to last till 20/6/09

    • I don't know how Hornsby does it….wish I'd checked! :D

I vote this the deal (or post rather) ;) of the year!! haha! :D

Just thought i would say. Coles Gossy is the crapest store ever. Biggest hole of a shop… Nice deal but :S

    • +1

If it's anything like the rest of the Gosford City Centre then I wouldn't expect otherwise!

  • All Mars varieties are going to 37g thats why they are being cleared out! Another "downsize" and "up-price" product. Most people wont realise the difference, but this is happening to the entire Mars brand.

    • +1

Downsizing sucks… except for OzBargain posters and followers. :)

Not great for our washboard abs, though!

and Cadbury………bars are now 220g instead of 250g. MARS are even worse - M&|Ms are now 200g instead of 250g, Bounty share pack has gone from 234g to 168g, Mars from 252g to 216, Milky Way from 280g to 216g etc etc…

      • Cadbury bars are also 200g instead of 250g.

        • Yeah, in a pretty cardboard package to trick us all.

There was 4 boxes at Coles Lake Haven about an hour ago.

Let's just say there were 2 boxes left by the time we left the store :/

Glad to hear I helped you gain many calories!

      • haha I thank you and also wish I never saw this lol

  • lolol i saw in my coles(mount druitt) around a couple of weeks ago, i was going to put it on ozbargain BUT: The mars bars have an expiry date of about a month or something (forgot what it is exactly), AND they taste bad. I don't know why, but they do not taste as normal mars bars do and are abit dry and generally not that tasty. My parents and I all didn't like them ><

Anyway, if anyone has bought them, can you tell me if you found them to be normal or different ~~

    • Ours are normal, with about 2 months date left on them.

My mars bars were a bit hard, but I deep fried them anyway so it didn't matter.

      • Maybe it's just a summer/winter thing? They do tend to be much more gooey in the summer due to ambient heat.

I've microwaves a few on high for 15 seconds and they…are…heaven sent!

  • Love the story, but do you have an old lady fetish? lol

    • Only if they give me bargains as good as this :P
