People in Dubai don’t like the Flintstones but those in Abu Dhabi do?

      • +1

        Yabba dabbah doo-bai!

        You win the chocolates… 😁

      • +1

I see what you did there.

      • +1

        You win the internet today.

      • Well done.

      • Give this man a prize.

      • +1

That’s funny because it’s a pun combining two Middle Eastern city names (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) with the famous catchphrase from the cartoon.

    • is this from Dubai?

    • -5

      Same sh!t, different smell.

    • What's the difference between Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Dubai = DoBUY (people shop lots there)

ABU Dhabi = Aboo + Bamby (Monkey + Elephant. Disney tm)

  • +3

    Where is it actually made?

  • +25

this stuff is horrible.. what you want from Aldi is that dark chocolate salted pretzel one

    • Is that Dairy Free brand?

      • +13

I think you're referring to their Dairy Fine brand, which isn't dairy free.

The salted pretzel chocolate at ALDI is probably this, but it's milk not dark https://www.aldi.com.au/product/choceur-salted-pretzel-choco…

        • Oops my bad. I will try that too thanks

My mistake, not dark but it’s delicious

        • Agree. Delicious and good value.

I was buying chocolate covered pretzels from the Coles bulk bins for a while, then noticed a brand called Hugos popped up with the chips selling very similar choclate covered pretzels in small bags (as well as "Dubai chocoalte" pistachio bombs) which were better value. Oddly shortly after both the bulk product and the bagged product were unavailable for a while…

It really seems like it’s a 50:50 on whether someone hates this or likes this judging by the comments… I actually found these incredibly good compared to the $20 Lindt ones I have…

  • +12

I prefer this to the $20 Lindt stuff. I have no idea why this "Pistachio Dubai style" is suddenly everywhere though.

  • +32

you can thank influencers paid by Saudis for promoting this as "Dubai Chocolate"
it's highly over rated, overpriced and doesn't even taste good if you compare it to the traditional middle eastern variants
(i mean all dubai chocolate, not specifically the aldi one)

    • +6

it's highly over rated, overpriced and doesn't even taste good

and made in Turkey and not Dubai…

      • and made in Turkey and not Dubai…

sold in Australia made in Turkey and not Dubai

        • +8

          and imported via Malaysia

          It is multicultural chocolate.

@jv: Gut diversity is a good thing

      • Nowhere does it say it was made in Dubai

        • Yeap, just "Dubai style".

        • and where did I say it claimed to be "made in Dubai" ?

    • +1

I’m interested to know which middle eastern choccies are delicious & if you can purchase them here. Would love to try them!

    • +41

Dubai doesn't even make chocolate, it's just influencer peddling. The conspiracy theory in me wonders if it was promoted by the Emirati government to suppress SEO results for the 'other' Dubai chocolate.

      • Dubai chocolate might mean something else nomsayin ;)

    • +18

I think this is a kind of influence peddling.

Chocolate advertisements typically link to childhood, emotional care, good relationships, happiness.

So along with associating the saudi kingdom with sports, esports, luxury etc… heres a product designed to elicit those friendly oxytocin feelings you get from chocolate associated with a murderous fascist regime.

      • +2

Probably. But its creative at least, gotta give them credit for that. And it makes sense when you consider the level of selective "care factor" people have with murderous regimes. Just look at how many people jump to defend China these days. Same can be said Apple and many giant corporations . Sure some of that is bots, but the level of general ignorance people have about subjects they find uncomfortable or contradicting to their beliefs is epic.

        • -8

You'll probably find this uncomfortable and contradicting to your beliefs but China is not a murderous regime.

          Tall poppy syndrome

  • +4

It’s the cheapest Dubai chocolate yet per g. If you like it this is bargain compared to other brands in the market now.

    • +2

      Dubai chocolate

      Is this even a thing…

      • +17

you dont want to know what the REAL dubai chocolate is. this confectionary was literally invented to cover it up its actual origins.

    • +1

Pricing varies because you need to check the pistachio content. The 'real stuff' or popular one have higher pistachio content.

    • Coles sell dubai inspired 'Hugos Pistachio Bombs' for $6.50 for 130gms. Same ingredients and taste but in a malteser like package. Cheaper, made in Australia, and presumably better quality control.

      • These are $5 at Aldi too

  • +10

    Dubai chocolate is overhyped.
    It's really not that good.

  • +17

I remember instagram influencers promoting a different sort of Dubai chocolate

    • +8

      💩?

      • +4

was going to say - please don't google for the reddit thread speculating on the reason this has become a big thing.

Was in dubai a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the best/original brand is called "Fix" - I had a guy try to sell me an imitation that he wanted 60AED (~AU$25) for, or the real deal for 120AED (~AU$50) - obviously if you wanted it you'd bargain, hard - but was difficult to tell the imitation from the original… they were handing out imitation samples (nothing special), but he said he couldn't give samples of the real Fix as it was so expensive…

I ended up buying some (not Fix) from a supermarket, and agree with another poster - it's not worth the fuss… Also, apparently the good stuff is all actually made in Turkey - although the supermarket stuff (Waitrose) did have "Made in dubai" printed on the box….

    • Oof yeah. A go-to for the yachting set when the yachts are out of harbour.

    • +2

      instagram influencers

People who use social media, have vastly different shopping habits, to people who don't use social media.

Now, OzB is quite a social online hang-out, so our shopping habits are also at the mercy of those upvote buttons too :-D

  • Cheaper than the blocks at Woolies….works out $120kg

  • +1

Pay $3 more for the Lindt version. It is on sale at Woolworths for $10 atm.

    • Literally this.
The Aldi one tastes like ass

      • +12

The Aldi one tastes like ass

So tastes like the real Dubai chocolate?

    • +3

bargain too - i was at frankfurt airport on sunday, Lindt Dubai Choc was 17 Euros !!! DUTY FREE THIEVES

    • Where are they kept? I saw none in the chocolate aisle at woolies yesterday….

      • +1

If you are in Sydney, I saw from Wollies app that Haymarket Metro and Surry Hills Metro have stock.

      • I found some near the staffed checkout at QV Melbourne.

      • They are only at the self checkouts at my Woollies, a big display of them

    • Bigger 145g block too, so it's only 5% more expensive per gram.

  • +3

At least it's safer to Google this term than at the start of the year.

    • +1

I think I know what you are talking about… but I thought it was a few years ago now not at start of the year…

  • +4

    Dubai Chocolate is overrated.

  • +5

    Dubai Chocolate

Dubious chocolate. Sophisticated people select chocolate based on country of origin of the beans. Guarantee Dubai doesn't grow these. Manufacture them? Says imported by some company in Mt Kurringai from Malaysia (who could be the middle men).

    • +4

Do you think you might be overthinking this one?

English muffins aren't all made in England.
