Stereo Head Unit

Hey guys, I have recently purchased a car and am in need of a new stereo head unit. Could someone please recommended me a head unit that contains some of the following features:

  • USB port
  • AUX input
  • Cheap
  • Reliable
  • Easy to use interface

I've seen some at cheap ones at JB-HI-FI but I'm not sure which one to choose. Any assistance would be awesome.
Thanks in advance

  • I'm not sure JB carry any cheapo no name brands.. So pretty much anything they have would be fine, clarion, Sony, jvc, etc

repco have a brand called automedia they are dirt cheap and they actually have really good sound

    • Only put out about 8W per channel of real sound (RMS) though.
That said, if you're keeping stock speakers, thats probably enough.

Most of the brand name '4x55w MOSFET' systems put out at least 16w RMS per channel.

  • i recently got a pioneer single din unit in my old falcon and have been very happy with it. based purchase on some research and what sales guy said.
it came with bluetooth and a microphone as part of the pack (which some sony's may not) and this feature works great and pairs really easy with the phone for hands free talking while driving.
everything all up was $300 at autobarn with a 24 month warranty as they installed it.
the unit looks similar to this one http://www.autobarn.com.au/head-units/pioneer-mutlimedia-tun…

  • JBHiFi quite often have 30% off car sound sales and in fact have one now ending monday! Here

  • Last year I purchased this head unit for $40.

It worked great on my 4 speaker system and also came with a remote. If you're not after a CD player, it's a great choice.

Where did you buy it that cheap? (2nd hand or new?)

Jb Hifi, they were selling it for cheap due to the 30% off car audio. Haven't seen it that cheap since.

  • Sign up to jBhifi, SCA and Repco email list. And then wait it out. The right one will come along at ~$40-50, usually Sony

just do what i did… i waited until the supercheat repco sales and found all their $80 decks didnt have all the features i wanted so i got annoyed and went to a proper car audio place and bought the top of the line JVC unit with BT and all the frills
