I've had LG Smart TVs for a couple of years now and not noticed any impact from choosing LG.

Thanks OP - looks like a good deal. I'm still trying to decide between LCD and Plasma, though I think my family will want to go LCD due to the brightness and lack or darkness in the TV room at my house.
My main concern about all the uploading of info is that it might make the TV slower. The more actions a TV has to undertake the more painful the experience will be.
It's pretty simple, don't use the 'smart' features. Don't put it on your network. No one uses these features anyway.
