750GB WD Caviar Green External HD - $119.85 + $13.95 Shipping

80

I'm not sure on the quality of the philips hdd enclosure (can be seen at EYO for $29.57) but I couldn't find a cheaper 750GB external hdd on staticICE. The hard-drive is the Western Digital WD7500AACS Caviar Green, 16MB Cache.

As a bonus they are also offering around 2 dozen Dual Port eSATA Bracket + eSATA cable (Valued at $12) to early birds.

  • hey, you didn't post the actual cost (perhaps caught up in the excitement of the moment), lol - DW, i saw that it's $119.85

    • lol - thanks for that. Have put it in now.

  • By the way the dates in your post are wrong. Zazz only has 1 item a day. You have it as 2 :)

    • Thanks - I wasn't sure if the expiry date included that day. Now I know :)

  • the philips enclosures are ok, do the job.. but for my money I haven't been able to go past the Welland enclosures.

  • hdd alone cost about that much, but id hazard a guess without researching too much its a 5400 as no mention of 7200 even on the WD site… great price for esata though. esata is usually 30 bux more than usb2.
16MB buffer only but thats plenty as theres not much of a speed difference.
    great bargain.

    • Right you are. Apparently the Caviar Green drives use IntelliPowerâ„¢ — from the WD website:

"A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate, and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads on systems as they are booted."

This review (http://www.silentpcreview.com/article786-page1.html) suggests that 5400rpm is the maximum, though the review is from December 2007. Apparently WD says the rpms range from 5400 to 7200rpm, but this hasn't been observed. I've removed the reference to rpms.
