Now that’s what you call a deal - not this

It is good price if you can access.
For an expensive mouse no charging / connection cable is pure greed.
Hope the authorities take leaf out of Brazilan move on forcing apple to provide chargers with iphones.
Yet no toher country followed Brazil. This shows the politicians around the golbe are in apples deep pocket.

politicians around the golbe are in apples deep pocket.

      Where can I sign up?

    • -2

But Apple is doing it for sustainability / recycling initiative lol

      • +1

On absolutist technicalities, it is actually more "sustainable" if by "sustainable" they mean less product.

    • +3

For an expensive mouse no charging / connection cable is pure greed.

I'm personally glad they don't provide a cable or charger as I have so many random USB C cables and chargers from various other devices. It would literally just sit in a drawer unused for me, probably eventually ending up as e-waste.

I think anyone buying such an expensive mouse is very likely to already own multiple USB-C cables for their various devices. Their computer can charge the mouse.

      • Same here. My Gen 1 MX Master lasts for probably 2 weeks. This isn't something I will have to charge daily. I don't mind the lack of cables in the future. It is way better for the environment.

    • +1

Probably one of the most ignorant comments around. Brazil levies a significant tax on iPhones. The 17 Pro Max is $3,500 there while here it sells for $2200.

    • Saying that the whole world is under Apple's pocket and Brazil isn't, might be the craziest thing i ever read on Ozbargain

  • +1

    USB-C charging (cable not included)

    Apple's doing…

MX Master 3 already has usb-c charging, so not sure this is a notable feature. More importantly, Both MX master 2 and 3 have notably pathetic longevity, although the mouse itself was excellent when it worked. The rubber seems to have been replaced with plastic in the 4, so that's a plus. However, button failures were also common (I had button failures on both the 2 and the 3).

This planned obsolescence BS is really getting me down, neither the earth, nor my wallet, are infinite resources. I gave up on logitech and have since switched to a Keychron M6 8Khz model - so far, so good, but too soon to comment on longevity.

Can't agree, my MX 2 still going strong.

      • not sure why, i had mx master 1, 2, 3S, all of which had stuttering lag. i kept buying due to the marketing. i think it is overpriced considering the issues and the lag of onboard memory

        • Seems like a consistent problem, somehow connected?

      • +3

I’m going on 8 years on my MX1, the rubber started failing after around 7 years of heavy use, but I still use it at home and it’s still functional, though now starting to crack.

        • My MX1 still going perfectly after years. Fantastic mouse

          • @harvestloon: My mx1 failed a few months ago after 10 years. Legendary stuff

        • Same here. I plan to get the MX4 as a reward to myself for getting a new job and I can claim it on tax or use the WFH allowance to upgrade.

    • +1

My MX Master 3 is going on 5 years of daily use with zero issues.

I still have a perfectly functional MX Revolution from nearly 14 years ago, although it's relegated to occasional use these days.

  • $162 via the Westpac app JBHiFi commercial link which more people may have access to.

You had day to create your own post 😅

  • absolutely not worth that price increase

  • I prefer to have a mouse or keyboard with AA or AAA batteries.

    • Ive had instances when I've run out of battery and have to work with touchpad on my laptop. Having an internal battery is very handy as you can charge it in seconds. Comes down to preference i guess…

    • I fully agree. A non replaceable rechargeable battery is just adding in an inevitable source of failure and a finite and predictable end of life on your peripheral. It's not like these use much power so even if you used a disposable battery we're talking 1 new battery every 6 to 9 months.

      • You can easily use these with a USB cable in to charge (unlike Apple). Fine for occasional use and only takes a very short time to charge.

I will never spend $150 on a mouse with 125hz polling rate and is 150g.

Why is this so expensive when mice less than half the price, have 1000hz and half the weight?

I would personally opt for a Keychron M6 instead

    • Why is this so expensive when mice less than half the price, have 1000hz and half the weight?

Because you're not the only mouse user in the world. :)

    • +5

I agree that $150 is pretty steep, but the MX Master series is widely considered to be best in class for productivity mouse with excellent ergonomics and precision two-directional scroll wheels, where polling rate and weight is far less important.

      • -5

        best in class

It's not. It's just circlejerked to hell on OzB. Plenty of issues with all generations this far (4 remains to be seen).

        • +1

No, it's not just OzBargain. It's widely considered the best mouse in its class by any number of reviewers.

As a long time user, I'd happily buy another one (provided I coud get a good deal, I'm not handing in my OzB badge that easily)

I use a Master 3 at work, and a gaming mouse for both gaming and work from home, and I quickly notice the worse ergonomics of the gaming mouse in terms of comfort.

  • I'm only seeing delivery ($5.99), no click and collect option, Melbourne CBD.

This is at JB Commercial via my work.

    • I can see the C&C option . Have access via ART super. I did opt-in for delivery ($4.99 in metro Sydney) though as most branches don't have stock yet.

    • No stock yet eta is next week at the earliest

What are the chances of Officeworks or JB Hi-Fi Regular price-matching it?

    • No chance!!

    • tried jb they offered $197

      • I tried instore. Best they could do was $185 so I just ordered it from Westpac for pickup at JB for $162. Using it now. Coming from the MX 2S I'm very happy with the MX Master 4.

        • Can you create a gesture to sleep and shutdown ?

With the 3S you could with the logitech options software, but I wasn't able to figure out how to do it with the newer options + software.

  • +1

Are there any complaints about loudness of 3s? It's pretty quiet already.

  • Waiting for something regular peeps can access..

  • So for many the 3S was a bit of a lemon/brick because they can't get their workplaces to allow the Logitech Options software for button configuration.

Does the 4 solve for this problem with onboard memory or whatever it would take for the mouse to be self-sufficient after initial set-up?

  • Did they do anything to improve switch durability?
