If you didn't know BY NOW how to get Frequent Flyer Membership for free, your OzBargain membership should be taken away from you. Seriously.

    ^^

Couldn't agree more. Only idiots would pay for Qantas membership.

    • +8

Rich people pay for QFF membership, such as CEOs, CFOs, etc because they dont use OzBargains or know how to do things.

      • +1

actually, they don't - if anyone did, it would be their employer :)

  • is there any benefit of having multiple memberships in the family

    eg 1 X me, 1 X wife and 1 X 3yr old son

is it just better to have all point accumulate on 1 membership?

    cheers

If you your wife and your son fly (on flights that actually earn frequent flyer points, not reward flights booked using your frequent flyer points) then you would all want to have your own frequent flyer memberships to earn points. You can still pool/transfer the points to one account to claim rewards.

Occasionally they have other deals too.

      • If we were to fly to LAX on a flight that earned QFF

Can I only claim the points for one flight since we only have one membership or can we claim QFF for all 3 flight with the one membership

        • +1

You need a membership per person as points only accumulate per flyer with a membership in their name. You can then do family transfers, once per year, and pool them all in your account and book award flights or purchase things via the store using your account.

        • As carlenet said…
Each person flying needs to have their own FF membership to claim FF points.
The name on the ticket/boarding pass needs to match the name on the frequent flyer membership account.
Why not have a membership for everyone as it is free to join.
I signed my kids up to Woolworths Everyday Rewards a while ago just to get them free Frequent Flyer memberships.
Now under the OP's deal you don't even need to bother with Everyday Rewards.
If you have already flown (Qantas does, not sure of other airlines) you can still join up to FF now and claim the points retrospectively.

        • thanks for the clarification

Family transfers can now be done more often than once a year. I think it's now 4 times a year. The 5000 point minimum still applies.

You can make up to four family transfers per 12 months, up to 100k per transfer. This changed last year after Virgin introduced the same policy.

You can accumulate points in one account and spend them for multiple people, but you cannot earn points by flying from multiple people into the one account (unlike Virgin, who do offer a Family Pooling option), so as carlenet says, sign everyone up, and then move them all to one account when required (it's instant).

I'd also suggest signing everyone in your family up for Everyday Rewards at Woolworths, and cycle through the cards when shopping, and keep an eye out on your email; they do targeted bonus points offers, often up to 1000 points. I've found that if you give a card a break for a bit, the card that's not been used tends to get higher value offers but, as always, ymmv.

      • you can earn qantas points on reward flights- they are the any seat award fares. you can't on classic awards.

Ok Ozbargain pros, so I'm not a frequent Qantas flyer - should I bother signing up? What other non flight benefits are there?

  • +6

    Worst ff program.

  • This member is always free

    • Not entirely true…
It's free if you sign up everyday rewards card at woolworths… Otherwise you need to find special deals as tonester pointed out above.

I joined this thinking it was for the Qantas club, its almost useless.

    • +4

Really. You thought this was a free QC membership? Wow.

      • +1

I would rate a free QC membership if it ever came up as a 10x better deal than a 30c McDonalds cone in a McFlurry cup.
Not ever going to happen though, (and if it ever did the Qantas Club would probably be so crowded it would then be useless).

        • Yup. Would be of no value. I could see 30c mcdonalds, OzBargain raff lining up and bringing the family for a QC feast on Bazza's single plane trip to Tassie.

    • +1

If you didn't already have a QFF membership you probably don't fly Qantas much in which case Qantas club would be pretty useless too.

I fly Qantas when the price is right, its always preferred. Plus even if i don't ever fly Qantas again i can still enjoy the lounge when in travelling on other airlines.

        • Nope you have to be flying a JQ, QF or Oneworld airline to use your Qantas Club membership. They check your boarding pass at the door (I'm a Platinum FF and the rules are the same for me too).

        • wrong.. your qantas club access also depends on your status.

As you are a platinum member you DO have access to one world lounges but this is not the case if you are a Bronze Qantas Club Member or a Silver Qantas Club member. For Bronze and Silver members you have to be flying with Qantas, Jetstar or Emirates to access lounges.

If you book a business class ticket and you are NOT a qantas club member and you are flying with Qantas and Emirates you do have qantas club access :)

If you have kids, this deal is well worth it mainly for the purpose of transferring their miles to your account after a family trip.

  • I thought you can join QFF through Everyday Reward for free? Or thats not the case anymore..?

    • yes but not everyone wants to join edr :)

  • thanks for posting this…great deal !!
