International transaction Fee

I recently purchase a hotel accommodation worth $1000 using the recent cheaptickets (25% discount) deal however i had to cancel and rebook my hotel on a different date. But saw that Commonwealth Bank still charged me 3% for International transaction Fee for the cancelled booking.

have anyone experienced this and will they give back the international transaction fee for cancelled transaction?

  • No, they won't refund the fee. The transaction has already gone through.
It's not a cancelled transaction, but a refund.

You should have used other credit cards to avoid this fee.

Yes they will, had a similar experience (about 10 days ago) where international transaction fees was levied on a refunded transaction. I sent them email from my netbank log-in (go to "Contact Us" and then "credit card"), explained that transaction was cancelled in just simple two lines, fees was re-imbursed straightaway.

    • Thanks AJ80 I will contact them. You might save me $30. :)

  • Definitely call them. CBA are pretty good with that kind of customer service.

I've called them a few times recently about overdrawing on my Debit Mastercard, and each time they have waived the fee.
