    https://www.google.com.au/nexus/5/

nexus 5 is only $399 from google.

    • +2

      +$20 for shipping.

    • +14

HN are selling the Nexus 5 for $549. Not sure that was for 16GB or 32GB. This really highlights what a rip off HN are.

      • -3

or how little (e.g. no) margin google make selling the phone?
hypothetically…if the buy price of the phone for havreys is also $399, what would an acceptable selling price in your mind be?

        • +10

In what hypothetical world do large retailers buy at RRP?

        • +2

In the world where google doesn't sell nexus devices to make a profit…

I don't know why Harvey bothers selling the nexus, but they do pay pretty much Google's selling price as their buy price… (which still makes their mark up rather large though)

Didn't even realise! The research i did was just on the nexus 4 price only. For that price, i'd probably even go for the nexus 5 myself! Haha. Good to see its started a nice little debate on here! :-) I'll cop this one on the chin! :-P

      • +1

No, HN have to cop it on the chin. Simple message is if you want good value on a Nexus phone don't buy it from HN.

        • "No, HN have to cop it on the chin. Simple message is if you want good value on most things don't buy it from HN."

          Fixed.

    • Sorry I did not realise it was not the 5. I already have the nexus 4. Lol.

  • +13

Personally, the Nexus 5 for $50 more is worth it.

  • +8

used to be $299 on google play, might as well pay the extra $70 for the 5

    • I definitely agree … and NOT a great deal!!!

  • +4

Google were selling them for $299…?

    • +1

Yep, for a while there, just before the 5 came out. $249 for the 4 8GB.

    • +1

Yeah they were $299 + $30~ shipping before they got replaced by the Nexus 5.

I have one of these and let me tell you, I love everything about the Nexus 4 except the battery. The battery is insanely bad, the Nexus 5 didn't improve that much on battery either.

      • Yes I know, I got a couple when Google reduced them myself - just wondering how this is a bargain for $50 more..?

      • I actually liked my Nexus 4 better than the 5, EXCEPT for the battery in the 4 which is absolutely horrible. I thought the design, size and feel of the 4 was better. Oh, and the battery in the 4 is absolutely horrible too.

    • +2

yes but it is out of stock. Having said that it is a great phone.

I'm surprised that nobody has down voted this deal, so I'm going to do that just so people are aware it is poor deal.

  • +4

"The future of smartphones is here"- more like the past, superseded model, over a year old.

  • I just got a replacement one from Google, I'll gladly sell it to you for $348!

    • how did you got a replacement ? was it under warranty and they replaced it because it was faulty?

      • Yup, barely though, by a month. The button was somewhat non-responsive so they sent me a new one and had me hand my old one in to a courier.

    • +1

try upgrading the software, it should fix those problems. If not, you should probably ask google support.

    • +2

Have you actually called Google about it? They have a great warranty service they'll send you out a new phone and you just have to send in the faulty one. I had a Nexus 4 and had no problems with random shut downs. Battery life is generally an issue though.

  • +4

Might as well get a nexus 5, at that price.

  • +3

I don't think this is a very good deal. That's just my opinion though, and I'm sure many would disagree. Reason -too close in price to nexus 5..

  • Nexus…4?!

  • -3

I love how 10 different people have mentioned the price is too close to the nexus 5, can't they just uupvote the first guys comment and leave it at that?

  • -1

    They're selling Nexus3 for $348 and Nexus2 for $347. Great bargains.

  • Very poor deal. Nexus 5 at $50 more is far better value than these notorious ripoff merchants.

  • +1

    overpriced old tech

  • if you buy the nexus 5 does anyone know if it processed as overseas purchase thus you get charged foreign currency fees even though its in AUD? where is it send from? is it pte Singapore?

    • depends on your bank.

HSBC and ANZ charges the international transaction fee for overseas merchants. Westpac and CBA don't.

  • Is it possible to install the Samsung S4 ROM on this? (And have all features work).

  • Even for $100 extra it would be a worthwhile upgrade to get the Nexus 5 instead. The processor is much faster, and the screen is 1080p.

  • -3

As mentioned above, an upgrade to Nexus 5 is a much better investment.

  • got the nexus 5 from singarpore. however it would not accept the amex as a payment. anyone else have this issue?ended up paying with a westpac visa card. hope i wont get charged any handling fees for processing it since its an overseas merchant?

  • Nexus 4, not worth at this price. Should go for Nexus 5

  • Can you still get nexus 4 anywhere for $299?
