Do not buy vouchers for Chaba Thai Massage & Spa (Hughesdale VIC)

Just want to share my experience with everyone in case you have also fallen victim or are still waiting to use your massage/facial voucher at Chaba Thai Massage & Spa (Hughesdale VIC).

During the facial treatment, the masseur had put cotton pads over my eyes with a steamer over my face and said she would be back in 5 minutes. I heard from a distance the zip from my wallet open. I got up and noticed my handbag was missing and saw the masseur in the dark in the massage room next door with my wallet and taken 2x $50 notes out.

When I got up to demand my handbag and money back, she played dumb not knowing what was going on, even though I caught her red-handed.

This is not the first case, during my mum's earlier massage she had heard that someone had come into the shop to ask the employees if they had found money as it went missing after her appointment.

While I was able to confront the masseur and not have my money stolen, I have reported this incident to the police. I am sure that with the number of vouchers sold for this massage company via Groupon/Cudo etc, there are more customers that may already or will be targeted victims of this disgusting scam.

If anyone else has had the same experience, please report it to the police. Just absolutely outraged that these companies use Group Buying to lure new customers in to then pick pocket and steal from them!

Mod 18/3/15: The shop owner contacted us to inform us that they tried to resolve the situation with the customer unsuccessfully. You can also refer to the other owners previous reply here.

      … with their insurance company.

That disgusting !!!!! They are gonna lose business so spread the word.

Did you speak to the owner? please do.

    • +1

      Maybe it was the owner.

Pity there's no email address in the "contact us" section of their site.

  • +1

Shit, yes tell the owner although they may all know what's happening.

My 2c warning: in my experience, there can be dodgy employees anywhere you're required to close your eyes. I've heard of people taking their bags in with themselves, or taking a travel-style backpack and then locking it. Most of the time, the owner/manager will have no idea, but will defend the employee just to uphold the place's "reputation". Good on you for getting up when you heard the zipping noise and for warning us Ozbargainers.

That is the lowest of the low they need to be reported to ACCC also call Groupon to report what occurred then go to a current affair also today tonight etc. I hope they get what they deserve :) but I hope you get reimbursed for all the stress they've caused you and your family. All the best.

Me again go to WOMO.com.au and put your review / complaint there. Quite alot of people use the word of mouth website so stick it to them :)

Thanks all for the comments, my blood has been boiling the past few days thinking about it, but I've done what I can (legally)… so just getting word of mouth out there to deter customers from buying deals from them is all that I can do.

I'll put it up on WOMO.com.au too, thanks Karsta for letting me know.

Will also report to ACCC/Scamwatch and I have emailed my complaint to Groupon (have yet to hear back from them).

I don't think the owner would have done anything (another lady in the back would have heard me yelling, but she didn't bother coming out to diffuse the situation), I think they're in on it together, and to be quite honest, I would rather see the whole company have their reputation damaged from this experience.

@vtx123 Iam the owner of Chaba, I have been trying to contact you over the last few days as I was mortified when I found out what has happened. I have been in buisiness for several years and this is inexcusable. I was not there on that particular day and the girl in question is new and only been with us ten days.
It would be my pleasure to rectify this although I have no way of contacting you as she did not take your ph no. like she was supposed to.
I f you do not come forward I have no way of dealing with the girl in question.
I would of thought that the severity of the situation would have involved the police or at least call me.
Pls call me anytime, Iam happy to accompany you in making a statement to the Police this enabling me to terminate the girl in question.
Pls call 0402 0444 947 or call the shop and leave a contact no.
    Thank you.
    Mark.

    Hi all guys,
I read this post and confused about why she didn't try to call police at that time or tried to contact the owner. Don't believe something that she wrote in here. We bought the deal from this shop many time. I just been there and they have a excellent service that is different from she said. It is a bit busy in that shop but they have a good massage. Shop is nice and clean. My husband and me have another appointment in next month. We are very happy.
@ Vix 123 How do we know that everything you put is the true because if I was you , I will contact them or police straight away. Maybe sounds like you are a disgruntled competitor.

Hmmmm,solaire79.Me thinks you are either the manager from the above post,an employee or perhaps a relative of the manager (the way this response is worded screams of it).

      • -1

^^ I agreed with you. You can think we are relative of the manager. We are their customers and bought the deal from this shop several time and nothing happened with us. I just want to show my idea. Thank you for sharing your idea.

So you made an account just to tell us that, did the manager show you this thread?

Before I read your post (parisienne), that's exactly what I was thinking. It's so obvious it's laughable. Not only are they dirty thieves, but then they come here trying to cover it up to protect future 'business' (get more five-finger self-tips).

This situation needs a Today Tonight style hidden camera sting

  • Exactly! something needs to be done to these thieves. Bring in TT and ACA.

  • Does OP have an update? I'm curious about this drama.

    Any updates to this story?

  • I bought one of these vouchers but haven't used it yet and I was about to ring and make an appointment but thought I would check reviews and saw this. Now I'm annoyed. I was looking forward to a massage :(

  • I purchased a deal for a massage here from Groupon for $35. The minute I walked in the door I was asked if I wanted to pay an extra $10 for oil.
I declined. How you do a massage without oil is beyond me. So what I received was an hour of squeezing of my body parts. The squeezing of the bottom of my feet was so painful I nearly screamed. I only purchased this because I had a sore shoulder. I had to ask twice before my shoulder was massaged for about 2 minutes. Never again! Don't offer a deal if you cant honour it or if there are further payment options - clearly state this up front.
