  • Does having something plugged into this TV's analog audio out mute the internal speakers? Checked the manual and it isn't clear. Looks like a 3.5mm jack at the rear, rather than RCA, which tends to imply headphone-jack style muting.

Thinking about the practicality of switching back and forth between the TV's internal speakers and wireless headphones - on the one hand, the audio out is basically inaccessible at the rear, so you'd want to plug the headphone transmitter initially, then forget about it. On the other hand, if it mutes the internal TV speakers so they can't be used when desired, it's a bit of a deal killer.

    • You answered your own question. An audio out jack will bypass the internal speakers. Use coaxial audio jack for stereos and auxiliary audio gear which can output simultaneously.

It was an assumption - not an answer. Been googling madly and there's mention of some Bravias having a setting that lets you select whether or not to mute the TV speakers when something's plugged into the analog audio jack, but nothing specific to this model. Workarounds such as using a digital to analog converter with the digital audio out seem to have their own potential issues.

When do you want sounds on your speakers when you have the headphones on? If sounds comes our both at the fame time you're gonna have problems controlling the sound in the speakers when you have the headphones on.

He might want to have a pair of speakers plugged in all the time, so when he's watching movies and such he can get better sound, but then not have to unplug them if he just wants to watch TV without having to turn on the other speakers. That's at least the most likely scenario for me

Pretty much, except for wireless headphones rather than external speakers.

With old CRT TVs, most decent ones had an RCA analog audio out that you could leave wireless headphones plugged into permanently - pop the headphones on, turn the TV speakers' volume all the way down (the rear audio out remains active) and you're set - nothing to plug/unplug, no settings menus fiddle with. This TV has what appears to be a 3.5mm analog audio out which may or may not behave like a headphone jack, and may do so or not depending on settings. Without the manual giving a clear answer, only way to find out is to check with people who own one.

    • "Does having something plugged into this TV's analog audio out mute the internal speakers?"

I bought this TV for someone else, so I don't have access to it to test it out.

I think you can set an option in the menu to have sound output from either the audio out, or both audio out and TV speakers. See option Speakers on page 30 of the manual:

"TV Speakers": Turns on and outputs the TV's sound from the TV speakers.
"Audio System": Turns off the TV speakers and outputs the TV's sound from external audio equipment connected to the audio output jacks on the TV.

My 5-year old Sony TV allows either headphone only sound, or both headphone & TV (using a different menu option).

      • This ^

My Sony has the same plug, I can select from the menu which speaker option it uses. No need to plug/unplug. Can not say with this particular model though. It can provide sound from both, or one.

Anyway deal back on apparently for 20 odd hours, except $5 dearer delivery.

        • Thanks for the info. Would have to have tested it out in a store to be really sure, and it's too late for that. Bought 50" and 39" Panasonics, which thoughtfully provide no-nonsense RCA audio outs for us overlooked wireless headphone users.

  • Am tossing up buying this or the Kogan 42" Agora Smart TV. Does anybody have any info on which would be better? (picture, sound, lifetime etc)

    • The reviews are sub-par for the Agora.
