  • waiting for the 10gig deal to come back

  • How does this work with the $24 cashback?

  • Anyone know if the code works for existing customers? I have heaps of credit and sometimes buy a 1GB pack for $10. Not sure how I'll use up 2.5GB in 30 days for 50% more, but I can try. Maybe start watching videos. :)

  • A couple of related questions:

Buying the as-you-go SIM on its own costs $5. When ordered with a data pack the price for the SIM drops to $0 and they charge only the data pack. Is it normal that in this case the $5 "starter credit" is missing and the SIM comes with $0 credit?

How long does it take for the Amaysim Referral credit to come through after the SIM has been used as per conditions (call, SMS or data)?

    • I'll take a shot at a couple of those.

There really isn't an AYG SIM, all SIMs are equal, only the associated plan differs. From what you write it looks they will absorb the SIM charge if you buy some data with it.

As for the referral credit IIRC it came through fairly soon, within a day or two of the other party starting to use their credit.

      • Yep, they did absorb the charge for the SIM, but it seems they did not add the usual $5 starter credit (without saying so anywhere during the sign-up process).

The number was ported to Amaysim today and is active but the account balance is $0 (and some data). The friend I signed up is a low volume user, hence the as-you-go plan, but $0 is not quite enough ;-)

        We can either:
        1) if the $5 was just forgotten, chat to them and get it added
        2) wait for the sign up credit that should be triggered by using the data pack
        3) pay to add some extra credit

        • Try a chat with them or call customer service using the active mobile for free to clarify the matter, can't hurt to try. Their call centre has been good. I once bought a $20 starter kit for 50% off but they only credited $10. A call to them resolved the matter right away.

        • I received my sim last week, exactly the same scenario. As soon as I started using the 10gb data on my sim, within 2 hours I got an sms saying that I have $10 credit from referrer. They only charged me for the 10gb of data and I still have the credit from referrer.

The $5 starter credit isn't free, if you buy the sim by itself without any data they require you to have $ on the sim to make calls. Since the sim is already activated, put it in a phone and start using the data. Then you'll get the $10 credit.

        • Thanks!

The $10 were credited over night for both of us.

Regarding the $5 starter credit: the website is a bit ambiguous, your explanation certainly makes sense.

  • "Sorry, the promotion is not valid. Code is Not Valid"

    • still working. Ive updated the post with detailed instructions'

      cheers

  • Amaysim calculated my data usage in 1M block. Didn't like it and stopped using Amaysim.

    • +1

That's only a problem is you have very short sessions (i.e. drop out of reception all the time). For me the 1MB billing just means it's rounded up once a day or so, which I can easily live with.

    • That's an oft repeated meme about session rounding (not data usage) but it's never been a problem for me. I don't keep switching data on and off or experience frequent dropouts. Maybe you do.

  • Q. Is $14.90 reoccurring? I need to setup an account for someone and dont want the hassle long-term of "topping up".. thanks! i.e would this go back to $19.90 in the second month?

    • If this particular deal, or equivalent, is still active - second month will be $19.90, recurring.

      • thanks for that.. hmmm this seems a bit better.. http://www.globalgig.com.au/HomeAndAbroad.aspx

        • That's month to month postpaid (credit check required, monthly billing), not prepaid.

        • fair call.. however technically appears better given there both optus, tho glabalgig give 1/2 a gig more for the same cost.

        • Yep, and depending on just how much data you're really after, and how much you're willing to pay, and whether you actually want postpaid or prepaid, there are better deals out there on month to month postpaid, and better again on contract postpaid.
          Happy exploring!
