Meh- sounds a bit fishy to me. Manuka honey normally has a rating of like 5+ or 10+ or even the good stuff is 20+, I have no idea what 220 MGO means, but I DO NOT think this is a premium product. I'm steering clear.
Good old groupon. Thanks for nothing…..again.

    • If it's Australian Manuka honey, then no, it's not a premium product!!!
The only real Manuka honey comes from New Zealand, & doesn't taste anything like what is put in a jar by an Australian company!!!

  • Me, too.

  • Maybe the Australian one use a different rating system? Apparently there is loads of dodgy Manuka around:

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/food-fraud-buzz-o…

    From this site:
    http://www.australianvitamins.com/products/view/1432

'Active Manuka honey (or what is termed Total Activity in independent laboratory test certificates) contains naturally occurring antibacterial properties.

“Active” honey contains all activity, mostly Hydrogen Peroxide activity. Independent laboratory tests are undertaken on each batch of Active honey to measure Total Activity.

Antibacterial activity of honey is evaluated by adding a diluted honey solution into a well of Agar seeded with certain bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus). The clear zone, which shows that bacteria has failed to grow, is measured and compared with the clear zone of a corresponding bacteria seeded Agar well that has been treated with the antiseptic solution Phenol. The result is expressed as the equivalent percentage of the Phenol solution. Hence an Active rating of 20 means that the honey has the same antiseptic quality as 20% of a standard Phenol solution.'

Yeah, sounds like wank to jack up the price of honey.
MGO is a New Zealand rating.

    Here's their site
    http://www.berringa.com

I'm guessing their 'MGO' is the mg/Kg as in the graph at the bottom of the site in the comment above. So the 120 is actually about 5, the 200 = maybe 10. On their site they have products up to 900, even higher.

  • Any good local Australian brands? Made by small businesses would be even better.

  • I'll stick to Capilano thanks

  • What makes me laugh most is that people buy Manuka honey for it's healing properties not realising that its only medicinal properties are that it acts as an antibacterial agent but only when used externally and it is good for dressing wounds. It is no better at these things than the actual medical antibacterial agents and wound dressings and it has no medicinal effect when eaten.

The only reason you should ever buy Manuka honey is if you absolutely must have completely organic medical supplies.

…or if you like the flavour, like I do.

I'm kindof surprised that people like the flavour of it. Not a fan myself but each to their own. Not sure if the flavour is worth the price though.

        • Agree - I thought it tasted awful. But then I like brussel sprouts. Each to their own then!

        • Well I'm surprised that Vegemite sells if we're judging on taste, but hey, as you said, each to their own!!

Could be a placebo effect but I found that it helped my hay fever over Spring.
      It wasnt this brand though.

And I dont like the taste either.
