Under your budget, under your specified screen size (has 4.5 inch), and has no memory card slot, but you may wish to consider the Motorola Moto G.
Has the (rare) dual-sim feature of being able to access data on both sims, if that's of interest to you. Search OzBargain for multiple recent deals and info, if you are.

Otherwise, 5 inch+ dual-sim China-brand phones are now available aplenty - if you're happy to buy from an online china site like Focalprice or similar (many).

I'm sure somebody will chime in with a specific phone and deal that they've been happy with.

    Otherwise…
    Scrimshaw, where are you…?!!

    • tas, motorola g is only 8gb and its small screen thats stopped me, i dont like to go chinese brand coz i am not sure whether it will run for a day to years, my only first requirement is big screen with dual sim,i can go a bit extra on my budget,

    Sorry, it's Friday….

Forgot to mention - Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 dual-sim…
    www.ebay.com.au/itm/190868713489
Right up your alley, I think. $357.
Plenty of other listings at around that price, and also available in black, of course.

You may even get a better deal instore somewhere, at this point.

this one is not bad, i got 2 more lg optimus gpro e988, and kogan agora hd+ for $199, http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/agora-50-hd-pro-quad-core-smartp…
i dont know how is kogan products ?
which one may be better , kogan has quad core and samsung is dual core processor, lg is quad core but 4.1 os

      • If you can afford the extra for the Samsung, you'll be happier with that, as long as the 5.8 inch screen isn't too big for you.

I gather that the current Kogan is considerably better than the previous one - with plenty of happy customers at the price, but screen-size aside - and while still not stellar - you will find screen quality better and processor performance better on the Mega.

As, for the LG - very different level specs. If you can get it at a price you're happy with - sure.

If you're keen on the Galaxy Mega, Kogan's got it for $319 + delivery:
      www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-mega-58-i9152-dual-sim-w…

      • -1

Even with delivery, an even better reason to buy the Samsung!

It has also been a fair while since the last Kogan free-delivery day, if you want to wait for a bit…

        • when they will come up with free deliveries.

      • i am looking specs wise which ever better i will go with it, and sure price too matter galaxy mega is dual core processor, thats what i am thinking.

    • I can second that…at first I thought it was too big but I love it now. Bought mine from Kogan for $339 including shipping if I remember correctly. I have had a few Chinese Dual Sim Phones and a Sony Xperia - this is by far the best I have had.

      • are both sims works on 3g or 2g and 3g, how is speed any problems with that.

        • +1

No, but in my case, I am connected with Wifi most of the time and my private number on SIM2 hardly gets used. So I am not fussed about Active active or 2 x 3G. Who Negged me?

If you have been in technology long enough and mature up a bit, you realise that in a year, a feature MAY have been used 5 or 6 times - is it worth paying 50% more for something that might not even happen?

  • Kogan has semi-regular 'free-delivery days'.
Sometimes product prices aren't upped in the days prior to one…

Subscribe to Kogan's newsletter and you'll receive email on the day.
Otherwise, keep an eye on OzBargain.
    Always gets a run.

  • The samsung mega is only big in screen size but not the resolution. I would prefer to take a look at HTC one max dual sim if it is available.

    • is it good phone if you compare to samsung mega, or lg gpro, i will try to compare them, if you seen or used let me know about it.

If you've never had or looked into dual-SIM 'phones before, be aware of the typical limitations:

    • Familiarise yourself with Dual Standby vs. Dual Active http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_SIM

    • Make sure that it has all the 3G bands that you need

    • And to the best of my knowledge, there's still nothing out there that can do 3G on both SIM's at the same time. (Typically it's 3G on one, but only 2G on the other.)

    • oh really thats big set back i need both atleast 3g i dont mind 4g, need to work it out again.

      • +1

        You may be misunderstanding, sajju.

As I said in my first comment about the Moto G, data access at all through both sims in dual sim phones is very rare, but do you really need that?

Otherwise, pick one sim/plan for calls/texts and data, and the other for calls/texts only. If you have a data allowance on both sim plans, just swap sims around during the month if you run out of data on one.

Depending on sim activity parameters that Colin referred to - of the particular phone you buy, in order to actively receive calls on maybe the only sim/number you want to receive calls on, you may then need to be careful to switch that sim to active

Don't be confused by anything you may have read referring to '2G'. All 3G/4G sims are backwards compatible with 2G, and in simple terms, it's just referring to the calls/texts-only aspect of one of the sim slots on most dual-sim phones.

        • thats good i can swap sims if i need to, i am still thinking which one to go with, how is htc one max i havent seen htc phones i am not aware of htc, comparing htc one max, galaxy grand, and moto g, may be lg g pro as well, lol

        • +1

If you go to www.phonearena.com you can compare specs keenly on the models that interest you and then maybe get a better sense of where you stand relative to the price you're willing to pay locally.

        • Moto G' two SIM slots are both 3G capable, but you can have one 3G at one time. You can change the settings without need to swap sim cards physically.

        • thats good to know, its a bit small screen.

        • Yep and yep. Sim business covered above - obviously no need to physically swap on the Moto G because of dual data. It's good feature on a good phone - small internal memory and screen size aside.

        • Depending on sim activity parameters that Colin referred to - of the particular phone you buy, in order to actively receive calls on maybe the only sim/number you want to receive calls on, you may then need to be careful to switch that sim to active

Anything half decent will be at least Dual Standby, if not Dual Active. Even with Dual Standby, you don't have to specify which SIM that you want to receive calls on; unless you're already on a call, you can receive a call on either. However, whilst you're on a call on one SIM, the other SIM is off the air for calls. If that's going to be a problem, then you'll need something that's Dual Active.

And whilst 2G is all you need for calls and text, that's only possible when you have 2G coverage, obviously. Depending on the network and location, it's not uncommon to have good 3G coverage, but no (or very poor) 2G coverage.

        • The need for sim swapping that I was referring to was just relating to the need to physically swap sim slots - if you have two plans with data allowance attached that you want to use up, and if the phone you buy doesn't (like most) allow data access from both slots.

As for 2G coverage - I am aware that it was eclipsed by 3G-only installations in many places a long time ago, and allowed to fall into disrepair in others, but I personally have never encountered its absence in my travels. I'm sure it's a potential issue for some.
Fallback positions - even on the same network, are a good thing.

        • AFAIK all modern dual SIM phones that can only have 3G active on one SIM can change which one it is in software, no physical swapping required

  • I didn't see anyone mention the alternative to dual SIM. Get a nice phone that meets all your criteria except for dual SIM. Get a second phone for the second SIM. Something like Nokia phone with 1000 hours standby. Problem solved.

Edit: Other than that, use a site that can search for criteria including dual SIM, screen size, new Android OS. e.g. http://Mobicity.com.au finds $699 HTC One Dual SIM 802D 32GB (4.7 inch screen) or $499 Samsung G7102 Galaxy Grand 2 Duos (5.25 inch screen) with the search:
    http://www.mobicity.com.au/phones/dual-sim-phones/shopby/os-…

I have the new HTC One, which works great, but any Android 4.3 or above from a major brand should run nice.

    • Your point is a good one, and one I effectively use all the time (at least as regards tethering data from a cheap small Android to a larger one), but I kind of figured that anybody looking for dual-sim phone (especially a 5inch+ one), has had the 'smaller phone with the second sim' idea at least cross their mind (?)

    • i already have other phone its hard to carry two phone in pocket, so thats why i am going for alternative.

      • If the second phone is small enough, you don't even need to carry it in a pocket.
I have a Samsung 'Pocket', and it's small and light enough to hang off a carabiner or lanyard - from a belt-loop, if I wanted to.

If second phone is for calls/texts only, you can buy an even smaller, lighter, feature-phone (dumbphone). I have an old Nokia I still use sometimes that weighs all of about 80grams.

  • $39 at Officeworks for a cheap Nokia Dual SIM.

And Kmart also has one for $49.

  • I am looking for the same phone

I would highly suggest to wait for Nokia XL its best of them and very lowest price 109 EURO that ends up like $167 and in Australia max it would be sold up for $200

Android X software, all the google garbage is replaced with Nokia it will be the best sold out for ever for Dual Sim card holders

    • +1

I'm guessing that alot of the low-priced Android-based phones Nokia are planning to release for emerging markets will be dual-sim.

It will be interesting to see what they're like.

    • when its going to launch and whats the size.

      • +1

The Nokia Androids will all be basic spec phones - starting at 4inch, XL will be 5inch. Lowish res screens, lowish RAM (XL-768MB), low internal storage, maybe no Play Store access (will need to sideload). Only the 4inch X model is available at the moment and only overseas.

Not really what you're looking for, sajju. Within their limitations, they'll be interesting phones.

Nokia's belated embracing of Android is intended for emerging markets in Asia, Africa and elsewhere, in order to try (a little desperately) to capitalise on Nokia feature-phone-based brand loyalty that still exists in those places.

The HTC One 802W (Dual SIM) is currently (arguably) the best phone in the world. Both SIM cards are 'Active' not like many dual-sim 'standby' only phones. Meaning both SIM cards are always on with the 802W, even if you're on the phone. The 802W will also work with Telstra NextG. Phone is 32GB with Micro SD card capability (up to 64GB),1080p Screen, NFC, Quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, the power button is also Infrared so you can use it as a TV remote etc, awesome speakers.

The only bad thing IMO about this phone is that is doesn't have 4G capabilities.

Cheapest I could find (in stock) was $686.90 delivered from Techoni Mobile Phones Australia, it's a China import. Good luck installing the European/English ROM onto it, it took me over a week to sort all that out.

Awesome phone A+++ Awesome design A+++ Awesome Features, can't remember them all right now.

Just a tad bit out of your price range but later this year the new 'HTC One 2' will be out so the price should start to drop even more. Also the screen size is 4.7 inches.

The HTC 802W is a very hard phone to fault, read any review. The One is HTC's flagship model, so it's expensive but extremely high quality with Metal casing and stereo speaker. It's a premium phone.

If you or anyone else is interested do not buy the 802D version as this model is not compatible with NextG.

Regards and I hope this has helped.

lenovo p780. quad core 5inch and best of all the battery life is amazing. i bought one for my dad for 250..if i broke my gnexus i would buy one in a heartbeat

    • Rumours are that post their purchase of Motorola a few weeks back, that Lenovo are considering introducing their own phones into the Australian market - so maybe that model or similar will become available here at some point.

      • I could be wrong but for memory all the Lenovo phones I looked into that were dual SIM were all Standby SIMs, not Active SIMs. They were good phones but there was a reason after much research I purchased the 802W.

The Lenovo Vibe Z K910 is listed as dual sim dual active according to Wikipedia. The first sim does Pentaband 3G, second sim does 2G.

However if you want a dual sim dual active device, take note that these phones are typically much heavier, and thicker than others since having 2 sims active at the same time consumes a lot of power.

        • Ok I just remembered why I never purchased the Lenovo… Beautiful phone, but no forward facing camera! (for Skype). Otherwise I would have saved a bundle and not bought the HTC. No regrets though. Love the 802w

        • oh really it has no facing camera, i was going for any of these one.

        • When I was researching for a dual sim phone my personal requirements were. Forward facing camera, ACTIVE dual sim's, Android, NextG compatible and NFC. I would have bought anything that had those options as long as it wasn't a Samsung or an Apple product.

HTC 802W was all I could find, expensive but no regrets.

        • i dont wanna spend on phone i already have bbz30 i spend money on it, i dont know which to buy yet, but the functions wise and my requirements your htc is winning lol. I was ready for lenovo only i stoped coz no front facing camera.

        • Re Lenovo Vibe —

          Specs http://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_vibe_z_k910-5843.php

Front Camera 5.0 mega pixel, supports Skype Video Calls / 84° wide angle
Rear Camera 13.0 mega pixel / Auto Focus / Flash Light / Sony Exmor RX IMX135 / F1.8

        • do you find anywhere cheaper they are above $450 if it comes for $350 k910 i will buy it now.

    • wow these phones are cheaper but they are very good phones i was comparing it, they are available on ebay

    • But its 180g due to bigger battery…

  • The LG G Pro Lite is getting an update to 4.4 Kitkat soon, if that's the only thing about the phone that is concerning you. 4.4 is likely to be its last update though,

    • which lg g pro there are different model in there, are you talking about e988 i like that model too if they do update it will be very good, and its cheaper big screen, its coming for $349.

  • which one to go with : HTC one 802, lg g pro, or lenovo k910

  • from my point of view I see that the best dual sim smartphone is the samsung galaxy grand it's larger than the S3 but smaller than the note, and it's fast too.
