  • Pretty good system. Just bought the 7.2 a few days ago and it sounds very nice! This is a good price though, we got the 7.2 for $890 from The Good Guys which they beat Dick Smith's price by $5

  • What's the deal with the HDMI ports here? I thought HDMI was for video, but this system seems to be audio.

    • HDMI carries both sound and video..

so you go HDMI from Bluray player/htpc into the Sony amp and then HDMI from sony amp into your television

  • +5

Tired of saying this, now - but it's a public service announcement, to do so.

According to Sony, the amp, in its entirety consumes 175W of power.

Here's a Marantz specification from a random receiver

    Power Output 100W (20Hz - 20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2ch driven)
    Power Consumption 650W (Standby 0.2W)

Marantz have yet to be able to defy physics, as Sony have.

So you should definitely buy this product - look how far ahead Sony are from the pack :-)

    • But I really want to hear everything at 10% total harmonic distortion. Surely my MP3s can't sound any worse and no doubt my neighbors will really appreciate it ;-p

    • It does not defy the laws of physics. Using capacitors and inductors, the amp stores energy and can briefly
put out more than it takes in. My amp says something like 650W too, but has no cooling fan, so would soon catch fire if it actually drew than much. Not to mention everyone in the house would be deaf, and the roof collapsing. Take the Marantz numbers with a pinch of salt, and Sony with a scoop of it.
