Here a description from the Jackson website.

This power board is designed to be compatible with Home Entertainment and Computer systems. Use this power board in domestic and commercial environments. Power is a valuable secondary resource and as the cost continues to increase we must to optimise what we are using and look at ways to minimise wastage.

One of the most significant sources of waste and expense is "standby power". This is power that is consumed by appliances even when they are sitting idle. When appliances remain in an active status while not being used, for example DVD players, amplifiers, monitors, printers and scanners they all consume "standby power". The Jackson (PT9778) Energy Saving Powerboard will reduce the consumption of "standby power" that is used by these peripherals connected to your entertainment and computer systems. This is the easy and efficient way to save power and reduce your power bill.

How does it work?….The PT9778 Energy Saving power board is fully automatic and does not need any pre-setting or additional remote controls. Attach the primary appliance, this would either be the screen (for home entertainment system) or the computer box (if used with computer system) to the MASTER socket. Then connect your peripherals to the controlled SLAVE sockets - these would typically include speakers, amplifiers, gaming consoles, monitors, printers or a scanner.

When the item connected to the MASTER socket is shut down the power board senses this and automatically turns the power supplied to the four controlled SLAVE sockets off. This eliminates the wasted power that would have been consumed by these appliances being left on while not being used. Likewise - when the primary appliance is reactivated (turned on) the power to the other controlled sockets is switched on.

There is one additional socket the operates in an "always on" status. This is used by appliances that need continuous power to operate for example a set top boxes/ pay TV consoles where pre-set recording may be used.

The PT9778 was developed with low power consumption in mind, and has been independently tested to show that it draws less than 1 Watt of power itself.

The board also provides a high level of surge protection helping to prevent damage to the connected equipment.

  • pick up is only free if order is above $40.

    • I meant WALK in store
Sorry I forgot about Click and pick
      will edit
      thanks

  • We’re sorry. This product isn’t available in the quantity that you’ve chosen.

  • Yeah I ordered 4 for click and collect rather than 3 and pay $9 delivery but each to their own.
    great deal op

    • i don't even see the click and collect option now

These are extremely frustrating to use. You need something to draw enough current (on the 'master) to power on the standy (slave) sockets. I have an ikea lamp which doesn't even trigger the 'master' socket.

I would be careful of this product. I am not sure whether I received a faulty one, but I think it broke my playstation 3. At one stage it kept turning off and then turning back on again until I unplugged the powerboard. I thought this may have been a one off incident. But I saw it happen again. I suspect that this random turning off and then back on killed my playstation. I have since switched to a powerboard with individual switches. I switch off the appliances I no longer use, without the risk of the powerboard automatically turning off and on again. Just a warning, although I just may have bought a faulty one.

    • Please tell me your one was faulty? cause i just bought mine and i was intend to put it on my ps3 or my hifi system. Now im worried about this product if i should return it lol

  • created an account to buy; item sold out during. Typical.

/edit: there is one left at Adelaide CBD. Price tag shows $39.95 but scans at $10.

  • Does it have the little screw/adjuster thingy that lets you choose what power usage it decides to power off the other devices?

    • I haven't opened it yet but the packaging says the master socket needs a minimum load of 35W

      never head of that before…

I have one of those powerboards, but a different brand. I got it for free around about 6 years ago when Brisbane City Council was giving them away for free to help people reduce their power bills…

    • Yeah my council give-away one clicks quite loudly when it switches modes and my new PVR keeps triggering it on every 45 mins or so when in stand-by :(

Yeah we arranged for the guy to come around, he didn't turn up, also didn't turn up on the rescheduled visit. With no call beforehand… I'm not bitter about it, nope, I've let that one go. The bastard.

    • Yep likewise, my Dad was given 5 of these type things with a remote receiver by some guy who came knocking a couple of years ago! I tried one for a little while and personally think that they're a pain in the @$$! You can't even use them as an ordinary powerboard so they're just sitting in the cupboard now!

  • Just got this one today. Turn my receiver on and off with my TV.

  • I got one of these for about $32 a week ago. Will buy another two at my local target if they still have stock tomorrow

    • Got the last two on the shelf at target stirling central.
Will use on two desktop computer setups where no power saving previously

  • I don't get this. To me, I can achieve a better saving by switching off the switch that the board is connected to. Perhaps it's more suited at places where the main switch is hard to reach.

I have one of these. Cant remember what I paid for it though. TV is main and when I turn it off it turns off amp, speakers, dvd player, media player everything except the TiVo . Works well. Probably saved me 1 or 2 cents in power.

  • Thanks OP.
They had a few of these in a chuck-out bin at the local Target today.
However I ended up getting the Target-branded ones at the same price, they were almost the same except the Target ones had over-ride switches on the controlled points.

    • the switches on the target ones are useful - essentially a 2 or 3 way power board if you don't want the energy feature. however the max current through the master socket is 500w vs 2400w for some other boards. the target ones are also $10
