Diablo III on PC for $29.95 at EB Games

100

Saw this price reduction yesterday for the PC version of Diablo III. Seems to be a great price for a locally available, physical version of the game. Worth a pick up for anyone interested in the game with the first expansion on the way…

Two decades have passed since the demonic denizens, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, wandered the world of Sanctuary in a vicious rampage to shackle humanity into unholy slavery. Yet for those who battled the Prime Evils directly, the memory fades slowly and the wounds of the soul still burn.

When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram's Cathedral seeking clues to new stirrings of evil, a comet from the heavens strikes the very ground where Diablo once entered the world. The comet carries a dark omen in its fiery being and it calls the heroes of Sanctuary to defend the mortal world against the rising powers of the Burning Hells – and even the failing luminaries of the High Heavens itself.

  • Explore a fully-realized Sanctuary – the living, breathing gothic fantasy world of Diablo III rendered in gorgeous 3D.
Battle the unholy forces of the Burning Hells with all-new character classes like the otherworldly Witch Doctor, or with re-imagined warriors from Diablo’s past: such as the fierce Barbarian.

  • Rain Hell on your enemies wielding the interactive environment as a weapon: lay cunning traps, turn destructible objects against your foes, and use environmental obstacles to your advantage - all powered by the Havok physics system.

  • Experience the intensity of multiplayer Diablo III over an all-new, wickedly-enhanced Battle.net platform with numerous enhancements to make connecting with your friends easier – and cooperative gameplay more fun.

Would not call it a real bargain. The digital version has come down to 27.50.

    https://us.battle.net/shop/en/product/diablo-iii

And with all the patches these days a physical version hardly has any advantages in my eyes, because usually you end up downloading a patch almost the size of the actual digital version….

resell value if you ever do decide to rid your self of the game.
      cannot resell a digital game.

      • +4

With this game you would resell the account. As you used the key that comes with the game (digital or physical) to create an account.
Hence the physical version becomes pretty much worthless for resell unless you sell it with your account details.
So still no real advantage for the actual disc version in my eyes- please note that I did not neg the actual post!

Can you confirm any necessary patches are as big as the game itself? I can see your point but IMO I'll always prefer a physical edition. A physical edition has validity in my eyes just due to little things like a potential re-install or anything like that. I'm sure at least some download is avoiding this way and that's important to people with limited download caps. Something tangible is important for many, especially if this was a gift for example. Digital download may be more convenient for some but i think many would still prefer something physical.

While I can note confirm that this is 100% the case for Diablo, having a look it:

        Diablo III Patch 2.0.3 - v2.0.2.22427

2.X something means you pretty much have whole new game out there. As the disc version would probably be around 1.0X…..

        • 2.0.1 - forums say size is 13.77Gb (for thew patch, not the download of the digital veersion)

      • I re-installed the game a few days ago from my CD copy (bought around day 1 of game launch). I had to download an additional 12GB of files. I also heard that the first implementation of patch 2.0+ was about 7-8GB and the other 5GB come from update prior to and after 2.0. Hope that helps.

      • Adding on to what BlueDiesel and divineiniquity have said.

I reinstalled the game last week and I have the digital download version. The full download size was just under 16GB which appears to have part of patch 2.0.1 baked into it as I could start playing the game before the full download had completed.

I actually left the download on overnight and it was completed when in the morning so I can't comment as to whether there were any additional patch file downloads after the 16GB.

  • you can back up the digital install versions of all battlenet games…

    Stay awhile and listen… :)

I always prefer a physical version over a digital. People who are on limited download plans will probably feel the same. Thanks OP!

    • +2

there are many GB worth of patches to download anyway… the discs are not up to date…

      • +2

I'm aware of that but some people just LIKE the boxes. I'm also the kind of person who still pays good money for CE boxes even though the same content is available digitally. Different strokes for different folks…

    • +2

I also prefer a physical version too, mainly for the box art, manual, CDs. Something I can hold and smell. :)

  • thanks OP! I was looking for a copy of this to go on sale!

    Warning: contains rant.
…and there's those of us that have no ADSL, ADSL 2, satellite or NBN and have to rely on the awesome-ness of a 3G network…would I choose a digital version over a physical copy? A DVD over a Steam version? Hell NO! Good post. Thanks for nothing Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and all you other telcos…for living with 25km of melbourne CBD and placing the NBN boundary in the NEXT street to mine.
The rest of you, just appreciate your "oh, its like, ONLY 13gb of download…."
    Rampage rant is now over.

You could be saving maybe 1-2 gig max due to all the updates and all the file system changes

It would possibly a lower download to download the entire game from scratch as it has been optimised

D3 is always online so chances are if you have a crappy connection you would not be able to play very well anyway.

Short history and summary of Diablo 3

2 years ago, I might have considered buying it.

Then the lead designer Jay Wilson opened his mouth and I thot,"What a jerk." so I boycotted it. Then player reviews started pouring in of what a mess it was, how they ruined the Diablo 2 skill system, trashed the inventory system and implemented RMAH - which was a cheap cash grab by Blizzard.

So I switched to Torchlight 2. After playing through the game and the mods, I swapped to Path of Exile (free to play). Now…. meh…. sorry Blizzard, too little, too late. I'm so over Diablo. If I want to see the Diablo cinematics, I go to Youtube simply because how you play the game does not affect the cutscenes anyway.

Just a word of caution of those who fell in love with Diablo 2 and thinking of getting the game. It's not made by Blizzard North. Most of that team left to form Runic Games which created Torchlight. Jay Wilson was subsequently removed from Diablo and put into another position.

    • +4

I actually quit playing the game after the first 2 months when Jay Wilson showed that he was too stubborn to admit to screwing the game up and ignoring the player base by continuing to push what he thought everyone wanted in D3. I pretty much knew the game would never improve for as long as he was in charge.

However, since Josh Mosqueira has taken over the game has improved remarkably. I just started playing again since patch 2.0.1 dropped and the game feels completely different. I'm not saying it's anywhere near what D2 was (going to have to accept the fact that ship sailed a long time ago) but D3 is finally starting to become a decent game in it's own right.

The fact that Josh was lead designer on the Company of Heroes games and has worked on Warhammer and Far Cry 3 (all games that I've enjoyed) is enough to convince me he's not a hack like Jay "F*** that loser" Wilson.

D3 was never worth $80 at launch 2 years ago, but $27-$30 for the game as it is right now is totally worth it.

    • Loved the Torchlight series

Going to try Path of Exile now you mentioned it. Looks epic!

    • I jump back and forth between Path of Exile and Diablo 3 these days, especially now that patch 2.0.1 has come out, it has brought some life back into the game. Just have to wait and see how long that lasts though.

    Thanks OP.

Paid $2.45 more than the Blizzard store for a boxed version.
