Carrying 40" TV in Car, possible?

I bought this TV recently - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135810

Can anyone tell me if I can accomodate this TV in my 1997 Magna Sedan? It was supposed to be delivered by Tollgroup, but they are saying I was not home when I waited for them for 2 days but nobody came. So I'm going to collect it from newsstand.

EDIT: I live on the top floor of a 4 story building. May be the delivery guy did not bothered to carry it to that height and left the collection form in the letter box? I was home all the the time for last two days.

Working at Big W, we tend to get alot of people buying 40" TVs and were able to put it in their back seats. But I guess it depends how it is packaged and such.

Toll are the biggest asshats I've ever dealt with. They also simply carded me (relatively small package containing a smartphone) and left — I was at home when the carded me and I never heard the door being knocked or the doorchime go off.

You can imagine the bitterness associated with sitting at home for 2 days just for them to come and no one came!

    • Toll is actually the only courier that delivers to my area and they always beep the horn for ages.. Guess I just have a good driver

    • Same thin when I was at perth with my cousins.
My cousin and me are at home in different parts of the house, neither ever heard a door bell or knock or anything.

Pretty sure they just CBF walking up the long driveway (its about double the length of a normal driveway). Pretty shitty service imo. We were home for both delivery attempts.

  • I fit a 46" TV into the back of a late Commodore sedan a couple years ago, don't remember having any great struggle (no need to open the box or anything), probably just had to move the front seats forward a little bit. TVs and their boxes are noticeably slimmer than they were 5+ years ago.

I easily fit my 40" Samsung in the back seat of my 3 series, which is almost famous for its lack of leg room.

You can fit the box at any orientation, I doubt you'd even have to move your seats.

    • Let's hope so! :)

I wouldn't recommend lying them flat, try to place it upright if possible

I'll try to keep it vertical. BTW, will post here to let you guys know how it went.

I brought a 43" plasma home on the backseat of a mazda 3. No trouble at all.

Good luck and enjoy your purchase. And your courier is an absolute tool if they just carded you. !%@^#$)&* I hate that when that happens. I wonder if its possible to have couriers call a number when they reach your place just so that you can actually speak to them and confirm that you're not home.

  • I got my 55" into my 2 door hatch Daewoo lanos, un-boxed. Most nervous drive Ive ever had, but it was a trouble free trip.

You'll be able to fit it in there, but your big problem will be installing the power inverter and antenna.

    What!?

I see what you did there ;)

  • You should be able to fit the TV easily in the back seat area.

  • Toll called today to inform me the news-stand guys declined to receive the TV as it is too big for them. Its going back to the local depot, AGAIN! I wonder whether the TV is still in one piece…

    • yeah I would check it very carefully before signing anything

      • How do I check it? It will be in the package, right?

Picked up from Toll depot today. The front desk guy was nice enough to manage a knife and tear open the box to see if there are any damages but only after I signed. I'd not reccomend Toll to carry important stuff.

The TV easily fitted in the legroom of backseat with 3-4 inches left from the doors, but I think 40" is maximum for car carrying.

I've been couriering peoples TVs from their houses to cash converters for years in the back of various borrowed cars, no worries!

Glad it all worked out for you. If you have a car where the back seats fold down so you can feed it in from the boot, you can fit pretty huge TVs. I've moved a boxed 55 inch in the back of my Mazda 3, no worries.
