Logitech Harmony 650 $47 @ The Good Guys

350

I just happened to need a new remote and found this price today. My local store still had a sticker price of $88 but it scanned at $48 and I got it for $47 cash. Great little remote for the price.

Edit: The cheapest I found elsewhere was $59 @ Officeworks.

Not that much of a discount, as Umart has been selling them for $49 for ages now.
It is however good for people who want to get OW to pricematch it and get another 5% off.

There's no Umart near me so that's another $10 or so in shipping I've gotta add. So it is a bargain if you like to shop local like me.

  • Your link says $48.
I got it ages ago for $49 from ARC - http://www.arc.com.au/pub.php?pid=52253&p=product

It is slim pickings at Officeworks, not all have them.

As I said in my post, $47 is the cash price.

There was about 10 in stock at my local GG.

It is a good deal for me, as there us no Umart or ARC near me.

Great deal. I've been looking for a while, and if I hadn't just got a new one on gumtree for $32, I would jump on this. Always a bit better to buy from a local store if you pay the same price.

  • I'm surprised that logitechshop haven't been around for a while now.
They usually have them at $39 delivered

    • I think they only had that price because they wanted to clear them all out.
Which would be an indication as to why they had bundles of 650 and 600 for sale in packs of 3, 5 and 10, if I remember correctly.

They no longer do that many harmony remotes.

They only do Harmony Touch remote.

  • The price of this seems to have increased over time? One year ago I was searching everywhere and eventually paid $37 at OW after a price mach. And I already thought that was expensive after seeing previous deals for $30.

  • Nice deal. :P tempted. Although I have my heart set on getting one of the tablet-like Harmony remotes to replace this one I currently have.

    • I have had my heart set on Harmony Touch, but now got two 650's (one for each room) and see no reason for anything more expensive - they've really exceeded my expectations.
They use the new Myharmony cloud interface and I was able to add 7 devices (although I haven't yet used it for all 7 yet) and up to 25 steps per device without any issues. From memory, the original 650 used older software and had a limitation of 5 devices and 5 steps per device.

      • The 650 does only control 5 devices. There is a "glitch" that allows you to copy a setup from another device that will allow seven, but it's not intentional.
        Was yours a new setup?
With mine which also uses Myharmony it only allows 5 devices. I knew this when I got it. the 700 allowed 6 devices.
I had a One which controlled 15 and had a touch screen. I prefer the 650.

The Tablets are a nightmare, if you really want one you should be able to get them very cheap.

According to the Logitech website it now replaces 8 remotes. It looks like they increased the limit recently.

        • Yes, mine is a new setup - I've never owned a Logitech Harmony before.
I think bruiser has explained why I have had the experience that I did - looks like the limitations of 5 devices and 5 steps per device have been significantly increased, although I'm not sure if it's just done through the backend Myharmony system or whether there's been a change in the hardware of the new stock.

        • I saw that last night too, yet the instruction manual still says 5.
I went to log into the site and check, but the pop ups asking for plug ins yet again annoyed me too much so turned it off. I wasn't in the mood for it.
I preferred the older software to the website.

        • Perhaps it's because I have never used the old software, but I have found the web cloud interface to be quite decent and reasonably clean. Was also able to do most of the things I needed, including getting it to work with the power-saving board.

One of the things missing from the site that the program has is the ability to set devices to not turn off when you start an activity it is not envolved in.
Let's say I have Watch PVR and Watch WD TV. Currently I have to include the PVR in the WD TV activity or it will turn off when I select Watch WD.
With the software there is the setting to not turn off any unused devices.
Small but annoying difference. Also it doesn't work with Chrome so I have to use Safari which annoys me. Then it attacks me for plug ins every bloody time.

You can definitely do this with the web interface. Just go to Devices —> Power Settings —> "I want to keep this device on when switching Activities and only turn it off when I press the Off button". Or even "I want to leave this device powered on all the time", depending on your needs.
I can also confirm that Chrome is the browser I'm using with Myharmony. I just needed to enable all popups for the harmony site when prompted. Perhaps you had inadvertently blocked it.

        • It seems they have had a few updates which is great. Showing I can add 3 devices to take it up to 8.
Power settings now as I wan't them. Thanks for the update.
I am on OS X, so no Chrome, only Safari and Firefox.

  • Thanks for posting. Not the $30 that people have been buying for previously but the cheapest ive seen since looking, so will be picking one up tomorrow.

  • Picked up and configured one today since 5 years old LG plasma remote was dying. Every single feature of 5 devices works. Its amazing….Thank you OP!!
