Aussie Kids Count Coins, FREE iPad App (Usually $1.99)

790

Hey! I've finally completed my project of the past few months and am making it free for its launch weekend.

This is an iOS game, currently for iPads, and is all about helping kids practice to use Australian money for various tasks - such as going shopping, giving change, comparing amounts, etc.

I'd love for you to check it out and let me know what you think!

Positive vote for the ideas and design. Look very nice, and I would have get it for my kids if I had an iPhone/iPad

    Good luck

Thanks - will download it and see what my kids (4 & 6) think of it and how they get on.

Great game – just wish it had an adjustable difficulty level, as it would be useful for kids to practice giving change for larger purchases…

Thanks! I'm definitely looking into expanding it to include more difficulties (and notes as well as coins)

      • Sounds fantastic! The design is so much better than the other coin counting games on the App Store, so well done. :)

    Thanks OP.
A great game for kids to practice buying things with cash.
Will you also make a game to let kids practice buying things with credit cards?

      Haha good idea :D

          wat

          I don't even….

          Well that escalated quickly…

    • CC would rather be a bad strategy to go with. It would cause a problem for parents and creating trouble for their accounts becase kids will try to actually use the real card when mom and dad are sleeping and kids are punching in the CC numbers online on internet.
And for the second u know the cc detailed is posted on OzBargain somehow and got 100 of tumbs up. Lollll

haa. good job…I recognised those assets(characters/objects) from the bargain posted on Ozbargain last year…
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124665
im also using those to make my new app…really nice of Glitch makers and good designs

    • Yep! I'm eternally grateful to them, I cannot remotely draw myself and can't spare the money to hire someone to draw for me (yet), so they're really a godsend. Hope I can pay it forward some day :)

Had me stumped giving $3.35 in change using only 4 coins.

    • -1

How do you do that. I'm stumped now

      • +1

        you cant

      • I thought it was a bug in the game, after choosing to give up it tells you sometimes you can't .

    • Maybe 4 types of coins?

  • Thanks OP. Great game and I will get my kids to have a go.
Very nice design and pictures of coins, I like the way they overlap each other.
Just one small thing, Piggy Bank doesn't have option to enter $10 or more response, only less hence I got stuck when there were more than $10 coins were presented. I got around it by Exit option and then coming back into the game where next option was always less than $10.
    Great game though!

    • Thanks for the feedback! :)
The Piggy Bank should allow $10 or more to be entered if that's how much there is, but there's a good chance it has counted less by mistake if I've missed something. Will look into it, thanks.

I downloaded it and tried it, IMHO the game colour scheme was nice but maybe you could incorporate native animal characters, brighten up the shops a bit more it looked a bit dull to me at first I could not find the two $2 coins because it blended with the background (maybe I need my eyes checked!) I know you said you could not afford to pay some one to do the graphics for you but if you advertise it in a place like gumtree or contact a local TAFE and sell it as work experience/portfolio, with a reference from your end you might get quite a bit of interest from graphic/illustration design students or recent graduates. I know because I had trouble getting experience myself. My son 8 really enjoyed it but he did not a lot of time on it as it was bedtime. Hope this helps?Good luck with it all.

Re-doing the art of this game would be extraordinarily onerous. And outsourcing to an unpaid TAFE kid would carry a whole truckload of other hassles.

    • Thanks, awesome feedback! I'd love to get some native animals in the app. It was actually a concern of mine while developing, and if I can find someone who can make it work to fit with the other art I will hopefully get to put some in, as well as make some better adjustments overall.

  • Well not all TAFE students are kids, there are a lot of mature age students and some who have already a web/IT or illustration degree. I don't know how much work would go into re doing SOME of the artwork, they were only suggestions that could possibly be worked into an update? .I suspect it might be a lot, but as a regular paying app customers of lots of kids games (5&8 yr old kids), I know my kids really get into a game or are attracted to it visually at first, then it has to engage them or have a unique function. When it's bright, colourful and different in a way, they will come back to it time n time again (eg.TOCA games). Things to consider..?like I said my son enjoyed it.

  • Help your child learn the basics of math
    In English, it's "maths".

    Thanks for the game!

    • Haha! What can I say, IT was my best subject at school, not English :P

thanks for the game…. while checking the game out also came across a few other australian games similar to yours eg https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/ican-count-money-australia/i… …. your's looks nicer and it's free so good luck….

another one that looks interesting and I want to try out is (as it seems to be more fun)… https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/tiny-shops-burgers/id6839907… maybe you can try to add some similar enhancements….

Got my kids (8&9) playing it today, they loved it!
    Thanks for the game.

  • Well lol i never knew kids today don't need to learn about the usage of $5 notes or higher. Sure a $2 coin was enough to get a good feed when i was a kid learning about denominations, but times have changed alot.
