Been to both 5 times. IMO it's Thailand all the way….a little more expensive but better party atmosphere. Nightlife is whatever your 'preference' wants it to be :-)

    • Seems like everyone agrees with you!

Only thing im worried about is weather? apparently Bali is better weather in June?

      Thanks mate

      • Thailand definitely has the beaches and the infamous beach parties that go along with it. Unfortunately Bali party options are limited to Skygarden (Kuta) during the week, but friday/saturday nights the expats hit some pretty nice places around Seminyak (Jenja, La Favela, Mint) and late nights always at Pyramid. And sometimes they have decent international DJ's at Woo bar which is a pretty cool place.
June will be perfect for blue skies in Bali, and will be wet(ish) in the southern islands of Thailand. Look at staying in Phi Phi (Tonsai) for amazing beach clubs, Patong can get wild too but will be a similar atmosphere to Bali so look at Iguana Beach club (from I got you video clip by Duke Dumont). Also good parties on the other side of the peninsula on Samui (ark bar etc) but the real action is on Ko Pha Ngan with the Full/Half moon parties and every other night of the week theres beach clubs pumping. Pattaya is good for real nightclubs too (The Pier & 808) but the town is pretty sleazy… could be good for a boys trip though! Will be drier there than the southern islands too but not as beautiful beaches - check our KOh Larn for a day trip but don't touch any jetskis!
All in all I'd choose Thailand for the variety, scenery, food and quality of beach parties. Plus the beer is cheaper there and spirit bottles in clubs are cheap (never over $100 for a bottle inside the club). Don't write off Bangkok either, but with the 2am curfew it's not as fun as Pattya or the south. Hope this helps, Enjoy!

Thailand is way better then Bali…..No matter you choose Phuket or Pattaya both are awesome or even if you choose to stay away from crowd go krabi or Ching Mai….Shopping.. food.. Thai kick boxing…cheap booze and accommodation ……only a bit more expensive to go in terms of airfare…..

Thailand hands down. Spent a month backpacking, fantastic place. Too many scary stories of Bali tourists getting drugs planted on them in public, then cops ping them & have to pay big bribe money.

  • I spent two weesk in Thailand in Feb with 3 other blokes and it was fantastic. We visited Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Phangan. All 3 delivered excellent stories ;)

  • Thailand.

  • Thailand. Bali is a hole. Pity it ain't 1986. Would have said Bali…

  • lol@Bali. Bali is for bogans who finally take that one 'once in a lifetime' overseas trip. Just came back from Thailand, it was awesome.

  • Smart people dont go to Indonesia.

timely article for the OP: "why-you-should-take-bali-off-your-bucket-list":

  • just got back from my first trip to bali - the place is a hole.

there were more WA'ers than locals, the locals were all on the take trying to scam you at every opportunity. the country stinks like garbage.

the beaches were covered in rubbish, the whole beach I mean.

every two seconds people trying to sell you viagra, cocaine, marijuana, magic mushrooms, etc

timeshare scammers trying to reel people in every 2 seconds after the viagra people.

compare that to a boys trip to thailand, you can go to Soi Nana in bangkok and Soi Cowboy, Patpong , etc

or head straight to Pattaya and never look back. sure there are some scammers, but keep your wits about you and you'll be fine. Don't hire a jetski.

      Did you leave Kuta?

  • Neither even though this comes belatedly.I would suggest A South Pacific Cruise to Vanuatu and New Caledonia as it is the safe option and offers a lot for similar money.I went to Bali quite a long time ago and what a horrible place. If it's not people pushing drugs then it is people offering transport or making you buy things.Just be careful with the company and the timing of the trip.Funny thing about the whole trip was I happened to be the only Adelaide passenger on the Qantas plane going over to Bali and Returning Home to Sydney.

    • And Thailand?

      Why is it so funny?

As someone who regularly visits Bali (8 months a year), unless you have plans to spend some decent money in the local shops (read shops - Not bars) then there is no point coming over.
If the tourist trade for the locals wasn't as bad as it is, then I would say don't come at all.
