How much to wall mount TV?

My brother is getting some quotes for wall mounting a 39" Full HD LED TV and was a little surprised at the costs. He has been quoted $400 inclusive of cables & bracket. This seems alot, but wanted to see what others had paid for someone to do it for them.

Thanks for inputs in advance!

  • Does that include running a new electrical powerpoint, proper wall plates for cable terminations, a warranty etc? If so, might not be such a bad deal.

I'm doing my wall mount of a 64" plasma, the bracket was about $55 - I wanted a super long heavy duty one that would span three studs for best support. I'll run some conduit in the wall for the cables but won't have to install another PowerPoint. If you're somewhat handy it's pretty easy to diy.

Main thing is to properly mount the wall bracket onto studs - if you reckon those plastic wall mate plaster things are going to hold up your expensive tv, good luck to you!

    • Not sure if you already mounted your TV, but you should double check what weight rating your bracket can support. Plasmas are super heavy compared to LCDs.

Legally speaking - Any powered and unpowered cables being run in a wall is illegal unless you have a cabler license. Just saying, so don't go posting on whirlpool forums asking for DIY cabling advice or prepare to receive the ban hammer.
      p.s. it's a lot cheaper to DIY :)

  • cost me $20 all up to do it myself. Not hard to drill 4 holes into a wall.

  • Cost us $300 for mounting bracket, adding antenna port and power point for our 40"

  • yep $20 here also ,do not buy the bracket from Bunnings total rip off, put in good long coach screws [usually in kit] into studs —-what i do is use a tiny drill to find edge's of stud & then you get see where dead centre is for the coach screws —then smooth fill in holes after does not matter if you do not paint over the fill, as hidden

  • If you want the powerpoint behind the TV (so all the cables are hidden) maybe look for an electrician who also does wall-mounting for TVs? Otherwise you just need the bracket, a drill and a mate.

  • $200 monster cables don't buy themselves you know….
