What timing! If this showed up a couple of days ago, I would have jumped on it. I have always been interested in the Pebble, but with the recent announcement of Android Wear and the Moto 360 I am going to wait and see what happens in the world of smartwatches for a little while longer.

    • good point. Besides, Pebble if fugly :( Couple of my friends have it but I'd personally never wear something like this. moto360 looks much more appealing ;)

    • Yes. Same to me. I hope the coming Android Wear devices will be in a reasonable price. :)

    • What timing!

I see what you did there.

  • How's the battery life on these nifty gadgets?

On a full charge with notifications on all the time (even at night) i get around 5 days. At a busy week at work it chews through it a bit more but that is to be expected. Plus its a fairly quick charge time i find. I now have both the standard Pebble and Pebble Steel as the steel version just looks better, more like a dress watch. The only time i wear another watch is when i know the risk of damaging it is high. Definitely worth the money IMO.

      • Agreed on the damage bit! best watch I have ever had for the money - but if you are building a brick wall wear something else - its not the most durable watch ever made…My Battery life lasts 7 Days sometimes longer on my Kickstarter (Brickwall damaged edition) and my new one lasts 6 days, maybe just lucky with the battery on the kickstarter one for that minor difference.

        • Was it an issue that the watch didn't use sapphire crystal for its face?

    • Varies quite a bit, I charge it on Thursday nights, and whenever it dies.

They generally last quite long, but if you're the kind of person who gets an SMS every 3 seconds, the constant vibration is going to suck up quite a bit of battery.

Also the screen should update every minute at most, any more and it's consuming way more power.

  • this looks like the OLD/original version of the Pebble. From memory it was cheaper than this via kickstarter when it was released?

    • Care to elaborate?

My understanding is that the Pebble (ie not Pebble Steel) has always looked the same. The Kickstarter version had a note on the back that it was an original kickstarted edition, but other than that, I believe the functionality is the same.

Yes, it was cheaper if you backed them Kickstarter, but that's the whole idea of Kickstarter; being rewarded for pledging support early on.

I don't think this is any different to the current Pebble model being sold on getpebble.com for US$149. The Pebble Steel is also available for US$249 as their premium product.

  • Does it come with an audio player?

    • You can install Pebble apps on it to control the audio on your phone.

    • It acts as a remote control for music players.

Grabbed the Pebble for $125 from DSE during the recent 30 percent off special that was posted here on OZB.

It's great! Love the smart watch concept and will definitely keep using it but, as others have said, there will be better looking smartwatches soon and I'll probably upgrade then.

For $125, though, I'm happy to hang onto it and keep it in circulation with my gaggle of other watches. Has been my watch of choice this week.

  • If only it was the Steel version :( Good deal however OP

  • I think I'll wait for the moto 360. It looks much sexier. The bezel on this pebble is too big for my liking. The moto has barely any bezel at all, like a normal watch. And of course, the round shape.. which I didn't think possible to make an LCD screen on.

    • The bezel on the Pebble Steel is much smaller and the front surface is gorilla glass, but it's also US$100 more.
