they don't want you to get too drunk.

What were they thinking…. I'd need at least 25 bottles to get drunk…

  • Blue label was $149 i saw yesterday..cheaper than duty fee.

    • Yes, I saw it at $158.95 this morning, but was coming up at different prices at different locations.

Also I was getting $43.15 for the double black but prices varied depending on location.

This may be the best price on the Black Label in recent memory, but for my money I'd much rather get a bottle (or two) of Glen Grant Major's Reserve, which can be had for $40 from places like IGA Liquor, BWS and many others at the moment. It's in a different league than Johnnie Black and I actually prefer it two other "entry-level" single malts like the Glenlivet.

I'm a fan of the Green Label though, which has always been the best kept secret in the Johnnie Walker range, but it has been discontinued. I saw the last bottle on clearance at BWS and grabbed it.

    • Indeed and good on finding it.. That's because Green is a blended malt, where the other JW's have other grain whiskey's as a filler..

  • Man, I haven't had whiskey for 10 years I'd say. Tainted my view of it with cheap nasty stuff. Think I might end the drought. Good choice as a re-introduction?

I alternate between single malts and Johnny Walker Black when at home. Whilst it's not as complex as the single malts, at $37, this is a ridiculously well priced sipping whisky. Most stuff under $50 you wouldn't want to drink neat - this one I thoroughly enjoy neat. :)

      • JW Black has been my 'entry level' neat whisky for years :-)

        • Ditto…until I discovered that you can have a 'proper' single malt at the same price.

Cheers guys. Grabbed a bottle… and a Phillips portable DVD player. Damn you, OzBargain.

I'd suggest having this and also a single malt so if nothing else, you can experience the difference in styles… I introduced myself to a JW Platinum and Lagavulin 16yo Isla and the difference gave me a much better perspective on what scotch is. Prior to that it was always vat69 with coke (and I'm talking 15 years prior) and various bourbons (mostly with coke).

  • None of the cash back sites appear to be accepting Dans… something changed?

    • You can always use discounted wish cards. This brings it down to $35.06 per bottle.

You would have to pay me to drink this export crap.

what do you drink? isn't 99.9% of whiskey in Australia imported? spirits in general in fact. what do we have… bundy rum?

      • Ever had a chance to try some of the Tasmanian whisky? I did tastings at Hobart @ lark - yummmmmmmmmmmm
unfortunately the taxes are sooo high it makes them difficult to compete on the price in aus and overseas… Sullivans Cove recently won whisky of the year!

        • Imports have the same taxes. It's the boutique nature of the operations that makes them expensive (not to mention the cost of doing business in Australia generally - rents, power, labour, etc).

        • +1

I blame the bloody Rum Corps ;-)

    • At least the Alc % hasn't been watered down upon arrival in Australia

  • how much does it cost usually?

I'm really lightweight and my favorite alcoholic beverage is coctails-white russian anyone? yum

  • Any free shipping codes?

  • +1

Damn my drunken fingers! Ordered a bottle with free shipping!

    • +2

Me too and I don't even drink

      • Same here, at least that's someone birthday present sorted.

  • Thanks OP….just went and got couple of bottles

  • Thanks, Dad will be happy!

  • if you can't wait for delivery Cellarbrations and Bottle-O have it on spec for $41.99 as well
comes down to price over time I guess
I don't like it so it doesn't really matter

It's still $36.90 in-store at Dan Murphy's. And those with discounted wish cards can get this at $35.06. Why would you want to pay more?
