With a $65 up front cost to get it.

RACV membership is also not free.

        • RACV membership is also not free.

It may not be for the first year or so, but you can keep using the same card number for many many years after you've cancelled!!!

        • Not sure about RACV, but every time I try to buy movie tickets & discount woolies cards from RAC (WA) stores, they always check that my card number is valid. Online maybe different.

        • can anyone verify if this works?

I still have my old racv card and am not sure if they swipe the card or check the numbers in any way.

        • I'm not sure what you mean by old. Are you saying you have a swipe card but are no longer a member?

When I go in they have been looking at my card and writing down specific details when they have been allocating the cards to give to me. I don't know whether they have been checking the details against their system to see if I'm a current member. In my opinion they do a lot of paperwork every time one of the cards is sold.

        • Not sure on this specific deal, but every time something comes up online, like booking a rental car or hotel, I just enter my old RACV card number and the discount comes off!

I would suggest that the $60!! cost gives significant savings across a range of services! Never fail to get one very year. Savings in groceries alone is $750 a year.

I am sorry for OP only found out today when this offer has been around for years.

    • +12

While other state motor organisations have offered this, and it is available through Entertainment Book, at least in the last couple of years this has not been offered through RACV. So for those like me that live in Victoria and have not purchased the entertainment book but am a member of RACV, this offer is very useful.

Can you buy other gift cards with these gift cards?

    • The wish cards are for the whole group already, so you can spend at any woolworths aligned store, eg bigw. The coles cards through entertainment book, you just go in and buy coles group cards with the specific Coles only cards that are sent out.

      • No I meant, could you buy gift cards for say The Good Guys, EB Games or Village Cinemas, with your wish cards at woolies?

    • Just keep buying them until you get one for $0

      • You would need to buy 19 to get 1 free.

do they have paypass/paywave at racv?

    • ING?

      • +5

        that's what I'm thinking

    • +1

anyone checked yet? otherwise ING 5% is all I need. $100 wish card for $90.25 would be great though :)

  • Haven't renewed the entertainment book this year was hoping RACV would follow the lead of their interstate equivalents, cool. Buying in person is a great advantage, no pesky weeks+ waiting for delivery.

I've been waiting for this to happen. I asked RACV about a year ago and they said something like this was planned. I suggested they sell the cards via their retail outlets but they wouldn't confirm how things were going to happen. I'm surprised I found out via OzBargain. I'm on the email list with RACV to receive news like this. I like the idea of paying in person and getting the cards straight away. I don't like the idea of online sales and waiting ages for the cards to come.

    Thanks OP

I am in WA, I think I am bronze RAC road assist, they always offer 5% discount woolies gift card.

    • Same here, I've been buying from RAC (WA). It's always been 5% off Wish giftcards

  • Excellent. Will grab a bunch of them (or one big one, though that sounds scary) and save $25-30 or so on my PS4. Cheers.

Racq have them too, but only buy online. Now if only there was a way to combine this with ing card it would be awesome.

    • Can these be used at Dick Smith??

      • Yes

        • Officeworks? Thats a coles brand isnt it??

But you could use it for Caltex Fuel and BWS Liquor as well hey… good way to save 5% across the board.

I rang Woolworths HO just the other day and was advised that the Wish card can be used at DS, but the DS card can't be used at Woolworths stores.

      • No, not in SA. Dick Smith is no longer associated with WW group.

        • Damn. I thought that was the case :(

  • I haven't used an RACV shop for ages. Does anybody know whether they take AMEX without charging a surcharge.

    • Just picked up my cards at my local RACV. They wouldn't take AMEX so I used my VISA.

      • ing paywave? :)

        • I couldn't see the special paywave devices. The machine they used for the visa was the insert or swipe device.

        • It's still a better choice even though they don't take paywave.

If you pay by VISA card that gives you QFF points, you can earn the points, settle the payment at a month's time and get a 5% discount. Why not?

        • some of these paywave devices dont look any different - just need to tap on the screen.

        • When I went to RACV for my second purchase I asked about Paywave. The staff member said they didn't use this function. Her theory was that most purchases at the RACV shop(insurance and renewals) were over $100 and therefore not suitable for Paywave payments.

  • Before I go crazy buying some of these to use at Dick Smith, can an ozbargainer verify my maths?
13in macbook is 1124.10, so I need 11 cards at $95 each plus the $24.10 remainder
    (11x95) +24.1=$1069.1, not bad.
Now, is trs allowed if I have paid with gift cards, would they even know?
If so, gst on 1124.10 is 102.19
    1069.1-102.19= $966.91
Is this correct and if so, can someone tell my wife it's a great idea

    • Not verifying your maths - but you can get larger denomination cards. I usually pick up the $250 ones (for $237.50).

    • +1

trs is ok with gift cards. I've done it many times. They don't care about how you paid for the item.

    • no you need the $250 cards for $237.50 but the end result is the same

  • Thanks Op. Didn't know RAVC members get the discount.

  • Wonder if you can use it with the $10 off $50 online spend at woolies
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/120399

    • Can't see why not. A gift card is as good as cash.

    • yes you can…I used one 2 days ago to pay for mine :)

  • Not for NRMA members?

  • RAA in SA has always had this

  • Bought today. Thanks Op.
