Optus $8 movie offer. Usually valid for Wednesdays only but it is working for anytime at the moment.

This also includes advance tickets such as Bruno, Transformers 2, Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince, Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs.

The Optus $8 Wednesdays offer is valid till 30/06/2010, so I am not sure how long this will last.

Please note,
This is not valid for GoldClass, SilverScreen, GMAX or VMAX Cinemas or for 3D Events.

  • Tried Melbourne City, Transformers, Wednesday 9:15pm. Doesn't work.

not valid for GoldClass, SilverScreen, GMAX or VMAX Cinemas or for 3D Events

    • Ok, I guess there are some cinemas which are excluded.

    • that's no great loss - GreaterUnion in Melbourne is the oldest, tired, ugliest and most uncomfortable of all the mainstream cinemas there. it's not worth $9 for a backache, sticky carpet and a small screen.

  • Coooooooooooool.

  • It works for Innallo Greater Union (Perth, WA).

  • why are trying to hack this???
simply as soon as soemone gets a card from optus they can share the code on here.
I think thats the proper way to do it.

    • I have tried the cards. the card leads you to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. After you login with the card number it will send you to the link I posted in the previous post.

  • this method didnt work for Hornsby, NSW.
I will jsut use my card when it arrives in mail.

    • I have just tried Hornsby and it appears to work. Which movie session are you looking for?

      • no worries, I tried again and seems to work after clearing my cookies.
however I will jsut use my card when it arrives in.

  • The optus Card restricts you to Wednesdays only. Clearly written on card. Online purchase is somehow not limited to wednesays.

    • online purchase is restricted to Wednesdays. I tried thursday and didnt work.

  • Movies here are released on Thursdays aren't they.

    • Most movies are released on thursdays, a few on wednesdays. This offer appears to work anyday anyway.

      • try Harry Potter
        Date:Thursday, 16 July 2009
        Time:18:00
        It doesnt work.

  • Works for the cinema up here, I wonder if they'll fix this loophole…

  • Works fine for Parramatta….thanks +ve

  • Did we break Great Union site? Seems site is up and down.

I think all you need to do is, click on this link https://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ticketreferra…
and then it will bring you the ticket page where you can select the number of tickets.

Then click on “1. Choose a session’ on top left side after “Buy ticket online” where you can chose a new session for any movie & cinema location with your preferred timing. Once you select the session, it will bring you to the same page as above with your selection of movie, location and time & offcourse you will see the ‘Optus $8 offer’ as well

You don’t need to change anything onto the link.

    Hope this helps….

Your link is better. If it is ok with you I changed my link with yours.

      • sure mate…

        • Ok. Everything changed. Took my essay out. Thanks for the link.

          • @[Deactivated]: I'd keep your essay in mate. That link is okay only for Morley and the movie Transformers 2. I'm sure other people in different parts of Australia won't be able to make it to that session. Hehehe.

            • @ops2000: It works for other sessions too…you need to choose the new sesion after you click that link and select any session with any location and optus offer remains there….

  • Tried, but failed.

Hope it works for other people, though.

  • Works in Liverpool Greaterunion for Transformers 2 on Wednesday…. Nice find mate!!!

  • This is a common hack for PHP websites that use GET instead of POST. Hope they do not fix this loophole. Got my tickets for Transformers 2.

  • It doesnt work.. tried for few movies in Morley (WA). Comes with an error
Error: optus is an unrecognised promotional code

    • Which session are you checking out? Morley appears to work fine.

    • i successfully just bought 2 tix to the 20:40 session of transformers for this friday at Morley, WA :-)

    • Mate, you're not meant to put OPTUS in the Promotional code box.

      • I have taken 'optus' out of the 'Coupon Code' to clear out confusions.

  • Works for Toowoomba, QLD

    Thanks :)

  • I booked 2 Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince tickets in George Street on 15/7
    GREAT FOUND!!

      yeah well did!

  • WHole website doesn't seem to load now…

    EDIT: Now it does xD

  • just got 2x transformers ticket innaloo, wa for friday night

  • Just bought 4 tickets for Transformers 2 for tomorrow night.

    Thanks to the submitter!!

    • me 2

  • doesnt work for Year One melb city tomorrow night

    • yeah, it looks like this offer excludes melbourne city cinemas somehow.

      • Which is weird, because the only Greater Union cinema in Melbourne would have to be the oldest and seediest place ever lol

  • Works for Macquarie, NSW.

    Thanks mate.

  • I don not see them changing this simply cuz it will help them rake in the profits. stuff like this will jst help them sell more tickets ending up making much more than if they sold full price tickets. thats jst my 2c

  • just bought 2 tix for the proposal on friday night at george st… hopefully they wont be asking for the card…

    • How did you go? Did you have to pay extra like 'newington07'?

  • Great post! Just booked in for transformers on Friday.

  • It works Innaloo WA. Thanks

  • Bought Transformers for GU Sydney Sunday, thanks. :)

    • How did you go? Did you have to pay extra like 'newington07'?

      • Not at all! In fact, I bought two sets of tickets…both times went well, and I even showed Cinebuzz cards the first time. XD (I'd already put them in online, but just in case..)

Though it WAS at Burwood, so. :P

  • +1

I used this for The Hangover at George St cinemas yesterday. I showed the printed receipt and he gave me the tickets without even asking about anything else. I also used my Cinebuzz card and they gave me credits for the tickets I purchased. Ended up purchasing some more tickets for Transformers on Saturday at George St, so thanks for the great deal!

    • Were you able to get through for Transformers on Sat?

  • works at macquarie
if it only u could magical hack silverscreen/gold class as well lol

    • Yeh used this offer last night to see Transformers 2 at Macquarie MEGAPLEX.
Upon showing the printout, they just handed the tickets over without any question

  • Got it to work for another cinema (Hornsby). Seeing Harry Potter when it comes out. Excellent find!

  • Doesn't seem to work anymore

    • Still appears to work.

  • I think maybe they have realised its being exploited? lol

  • Hi,

Tried it today. Booked 2 tckts online. When reached the counter to get the tickets, had to pay full because the girl said this is for Wednesday only. I tried the excuse that website allows the booking but it didn't work. Ended up paying more because of online booking fee.

Though, you can use it on Wed. If asked if you have optus card, say you have it but you havent brought it.

    • Sorry to hear that. I guess it is valid for Wednesdays only. I tried it last Wednesday and they just handed it to me with no questions asked.

    • Ouch! I think some staff might have wised up..better use it while you can. -wry- Or if a student, just go for the $8 Monday, heh..

    • What cinema was this?

    • I tried it at the paramatta westfield greater union on this sunday and was accepted, granted there was a long queue and he wasn't about to check if it's valid or not..

      • I went to the same cinema. For Transformers 2. The queue was long as well but I think she was a senior staff/duty manager or so and she knew the scheme well. She didn't care for the long queue. I argued for like 10 minutes or so.

And maybe they might not be so strict if you go for not-so-recent released movie.

I think if I would have gone to its main counter, the junior staff might not have checked. I went to the one where you pay for snacks and stuff.

  • worked for me at transformers 2 at glendale NSW in newcastle. hooray to everyone.

  • yup worked for me @ burwood, nsw for saturday 10:40pm session. transformers 2.. i bought 9 tickets lol

    • Wonder if you'll be able to receive them

      • -1

what you mean? i went to pick them up at the cinemas.. actually i didn't even do it.. my friend did.. i just gave him the order number

  • When does this offer end exactly? Thanks

  • is it still available? Why I couldn't open all the above links…

    • Link doesn't seem to work. End of our fun?

      • Link is still ok. The website has frequent downs.

  • can anyone tel me how does this work, do i hve to be member of optus??

    • Dont have to be member of optus, just click on the link in OP.

  • worked yesterday, bought 6 tickets for Bruno at Miranda, on a thursday night.

  • Not working anymore, brings you to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/error.asp?…

    Unrecognised Page Link
Unfortunately we cannot load your customised ticketing page. Please make sure the URL you are trying to access is correct, or choose an option from the menu at the top of the page.

    • Hi, I was checking at the same time when you were trying and it was not working then. Kept trying it for a friend and it worked after 2-3 minutes and booked one ticket. My friend got the ticket without any questions asked at the ticket counter, and is watching Transformers @ Parramatta as I write this.

      So, it still works.

How do we get these VIP optus cards anyway?

  • Hmm I managed to use this offer twice (both not on a Wednesday), but now I get the same problem with the link. Maybe they worked it out?

But they can't have stopped the offer can they? So how are they selling tickets now? My parents have an Entertainment book which they used to be able to buy tickets through the website (I think they were about $10-$11), but now you can't book them through the website and you have to order them…

    • And they can't open up the website only on Wednesdays…what if I want to buy a ticket on Tuesday for Wednesday?

  • The link still appears to work. But only works when you log in your optus card in this link http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. After logging in, the above link will work.

  • Can someone supply a card number? I'm just wondering…

I dont even know what they are…
