Spend $250.00 on Qantas Cash and Get 2500 FF Points

150

got an email about this today.

If you have a Qantas Cash Card and spend $250.00 on it by April 27 they will give you a bonus 2500 frequent flyer points.

Whilst not heaps its not bad for nothing. I think a $30 voucher is about 3100 points. So I guess work it out that way.

Also as posted below, recharge with $250AUD for an extra 1000 FF points.

Always looking for ways to earn extra points for next to no effort. Don't usually use this card because of the bad earn rate, but this will be worth it.

(In case anyone was wondering, you could do all this is AUD and not worry about their bad conversion rates). Cheers

Actually you have to spend in foreign currencies - not sure how good a deal this makes it.

    (c) spent a minimum AU $250 or equivalent in foreign currency during the Promotion Period.

Buying $250 AUD worth of USD via Qantas Cash at the moment would make you about $10 worse off compared to the rate on xe.com (28 degrees, Citibank Plus etc). The points are worth about $25 so might still be worth it if you will spend the USD. I guess you could buy amazon.com vouchers.

    • No you don't. It just says that you can spend the minimum in foreign currency equivalent to AU$250.

  • Can you deposit $250 AUD, get the 2500 FF points, then withdraw the $250 cash?

    Whats the trick here?

    • No.

You have to deposit $250 and then spend it all with the card.

nah it said you cant do it with withdrawals and has to be spent.

Best bet if you are really that stingy, go to EB and buy $250 on games then refund em a day later and when they ask to do refund just then use your bank card and have money refunded back into your account lol.

So tightarse but I love it.

  • if you read carefully it states spend $250AUD or equivalent in foreign currency.

It is not 100% clear, but it sounds to me like Spend $A250, OR Spend eqivalent in foreign currency! Anyway, I will give it a try for purchasing Coles and Woolies gift cards.

  • Am travelling soon and ever since 28 Degrees started charging fees for overseas ATI withdrawals, this seems to be the next best option I can see for $2 per withdrawal. My bank charges twice of that. Might as well get some points too.
    Any other recommendations ?

Citibank plus. Covered elsewhere in ozbargain. ATM Fees can be avoided & Great exchange rate.

  • it's quite misleading if you can actually spend it in Australia, technically speaking, as it reads it states spend a minimum $250 AUD, this would assume you can spend it here.

I have sent them a query to clarify it further.

There is currently also a 1000 point bonus if you activate (via targeted email) and load $250 or more into your Qantas Cash account. I wonder whether this is also stackable? I can't find anywhere it says only 1 offer is valid.

^ You must be a Qantas Frequent Flyer Member to earn and redeem Qantas Points. Membership and the earning and redemption of Qantas Points is subject to the terms and conditions of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program available at qantas.com. To be eligible to receive the 1,000 bonus points you must have received an email from Qantas Frequent Flyer outlining the offer, register by clicking the button in the body of the email, activated your Qantas Cash facility and loaded a minimum AU $250 or equivalent in foreign currency in one transaction by 30 April 2014. The bonus points will appear in your account 6-8 weeks after the promotion has closed.

FYI (can't be arsed doing a new deal post) bankwest currently have an offer of 10000 QFF points for getting their Qantas Debit Mastercard. Seems like a pretty sweet deal. Just need to deposit $2000/month for 3 months.

      http://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/everyday-accounts/everyd…

      Thanks! Considering this.

Open a Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account before 31 May 2014 and deposit at least $2,000 per month (your salary ought to do it) for the first 3 months to be eligible. New Bankwest transaction account holders only.

Oh, and no overseas ATM withdrawal fees (charged by Bankwest)

      • Always read the fine print

Straight from their site regarding fees,

        Foreign transaction 2.95%

So while no ATM withdrawal fee you get hit with $2.95 for withdrawing the equivalent of $A100 and we have no idea what exchange rate base they use.

Plus you get an interest rate of 0.01% p.a. (variable) Which is next to nothing vs their Hero transaction account of 3.00% p.a. (variable)

        • I thought all Mastercard / Visa cards used the Mastercard / Visa exchange rates?

        • They do but the issuer of the card then takes a transaction fee usually ~3% on the final transaction total.

Interesting accrual system. 0.4 points per $100 balance, and 5 points per eligible transaction. So if you buy 20 items at the supermarket, do 20 transactions! I couldn't be bothered with that, but I will take the 10000 QFF and run.

  • I've had the card for a few months now but have been debating whether I could be assed loading it up and using it instead of my debit card each time! But this deal could prob sway me! Just thinking about it, if I shopped at Coles, etc. could I be earning both Flybuys and Freq Flyer points simultaneously?

  • Just checking my emails… And sorry, but for existing members this looks like it is targeted. You have to have received the email and activated it. You get 21 days from the date you received the email to spend the $250! Obviously new members are able to join and get till Apr 27th and also enter the NYC comp! I unfortunately received mine back on Mar 25th!

To be eligible to receive the 2,500 bonus points you must be the recipient of this email, register by clicking the button in the body of the email, spend at least AU$250 or equivalent in foreign currency within 21 days of receiving this email. The bonus points will appear in your account within 6-8 weeks after the offer has closed. Limit one per person.

  • Might be worth noting that according to someone on Whirlpool, activating the Qantas cash part of the card puts a note on your Dunn & Bradstreet credit file.

You can consent not to have your credit file checked D&B and Qantas Cash will still allow you to continue. Just don't check the D&B tick box at the end.

I just looked and this deal is advertised on the front page of their website (while I wa logged in). So it looks like I just need to click on the Enter Now icon and the deal is active. No need for the email to have been received. It is also part of a larger competition they are running for an OS holiday but I'll be happy with the points.

NOTE: After clicking through I had to register for the deal - just basically accepting the terms and conditions and entering my name (like they didn't know that already).

Also keep in mind that you can use the qantas cash card to pay for tigerair flights and avoid the booking fees. So far it is the only free account I have found that is a Australian issues Mastercard Visa Debit card, which is needed to avoid tiger's big credit card fees. I just load the card and unload it - zero fees and maybe one day some points for a qantas flight (such as an upcoming Canberra one as tiger don't fly there).
