Samsung really don't like discounting older models much do they?

Don't get me wrong, the S2 was a nice phone but aren't they 3+ years old now? Surely in the $100-150 range by now. It's been superseeded by the S3, S4 and S5. Solid phone, even more possibilities rooted, but it is showing its age now.

Did the 4G come with any other differences in RAM etc (ie: S3 4G)? Not a bad deal just not a bargain I'm thinking.

    Shrugs

  • +5

I had this phone before. atrocious battery life. cuz the chipset has 3g and 4g on simultaneously.

    • +1

Yeah, and the CPU makes this phone a little great hand warmer in winter.

  • +16

At this price, wouldn't the Moto G at 240 odd, or the Xperia SP at 260 odd be a better deal?

    • +5

except this has 4G - but yes the Moto G would be a better phone in all other areas

    • +1

^ This! If it weren't for the 4G, I'd actually neg this.

    • -6

      Not if you're a Samsung fanboi…

  • +1

srsly get a 4g s3 with anker 7200mah extended battery best combo.

  • +7

someone tell samsung they are not apple so they cannot sell outdated tech for these kinda prices.

    • +5

So do yo mean only Apple can do that, but no one else can?

      • +31

Only isheep would buy outdated tech at high prices.

      • Yes, this is called patent.
You cannot sell outdated tech at high price unless you have hundreds of millions for the lawsuit from Apple.

    • +10

To be fair the iPhone 4s which came out in the same year is still for sale on the Apple website for $529 so this is a fair bit cheaper :P.

You are comparing a Tablet and a Phone !

    • +2

      tablet vs phone?

  • +3

Heaps of good options for Chinese Branded phones in this price range. Works 4x faster too with 720p, Quad core etc etc.

  • +6

    Kogan is selling s3 4G for $290+20.

  • well with S5 out maybe S4 will go sub <$400 ? :)

  • +15

I still proudly use this phone. Enough for my daily routine.

    • +1

Yeah, but it's still not really worth the $200.

      • +2

Very true. Should be around $150. Remember paying over $500 for it.

      • +4

Ive tried a few current generation ~$200 phones and none were any better than the S2.
Those saying spend $240 or $260 on something else, the point of a budget phone is you have limited money.

  • -1

    Is it easy to unlock?

    • +12

Says it's an unlocked hanset. Dunno if that helps

      • Thanks
With telstra sim I missed the unlocked bit

  • Theyve stopped making the Galaxy S1 so once the S5 comes out I imagine theyll probly think of discontinuing this one as well. Probly why its out cheaper

    • Yeah it says clearance I guess that's why it's at participating stores.

  • Well that Bonus power tube makes it an even better deal :)

    • +5

Power tubes cost less than $15 to get overseas for a 2600mah one like this. Lipstick on a pig to turn it into a "deal" if you ask me.

      • +1

        Lipstick on a pig

        He he, love it

  • +1

I still have the 3G version of this phone and has been working for me till last two weeks or so, started lagging, freezing etc after 3 years. Great phone in my opinion, I never felt like upgrading to S3 or S4 cause their design repelled me. S2 had the best design (imho) and they lost me just before they release S5 because I am going to buy an LG G2 tomorrow. $200 for a brand new solid 4G phone, it will be ideal for a medium core user.

    • Where can you get an LG G2 for $200 ?

      • That last sentence is meant for this phone, not G2 if that's where you got confused.

      • +3

        2016….

    • My S1 started to freeze etc. Just do a factory reset reinstall ur apps again and itll run perfectly. I was thinking of upgrading but phones fine now after the factory reset.

Factory reset option on the S1 is under Settings/Privacy if helps

  • Not a bad deal with the Mipow, but not a bargain either. This device isn't worth $199 with the likes of the MotoG around (if you can live without 4G) or the Xperia SP if you do need 4G.

  • +1

If I'm not mistaken isn't this the phone thst started the war between Apple and Samsung?
In any case $100 ill snap it up, $150 tempted but $200 arrrggh can't.
All specs look descent but Display res is 800 x 480 (217ppi).

    http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_ii_4g_i9100m-4059.php

    • +1

I think the S1 was the one that really started the war with samsung.

It was an almost direct copy of the iphone 3gs.

      • +2

The war would have started anyway… it's Apple's way of doing things. + They invented round corners remember?

        • Lol

  • Paid about $130 for a non-4G S II at a Cash Converters a few months back. Pretty sure the S2 got a 4.1 update (mine has it on it).

  • +7

Whoever bought an S2 in the beginning made a good investment.

  • +2

The 4G s2 is fatter and heavier than the 3G version. They are not the same phone.

Pretty bad battery life but great value for the function if you don't use your phone all day. I'd prefer this over some dodgy Chinese knock off any day.

    • +1

Unfortunately, now most $100+ Chinese knock offs are better than this S2, spec wise. (Except 4G)

      • +2

Unfortunately, specs has nothing to do with quality.

        • +1

Talking about Samsung quality.. you must be joking right?
A lot of plastic + touchwiz lag, yeah, what a good quality phone should have.

        • Agreed, Samsung =hi tech, not quality, big difference.

Still some of the Chinese knock offs have terrible mics and speakers

  • 4G S2 is no go because of its short battery life, in fact the 3G model battery was poor as well

    • +1

Yeah, that's why I upgraded, had my S2 for 2 years and 4 months, even after new battery and wipe, battery would die half way through the day. Had to upgrade.

Amazing phone for its time. I guess the price is okay, but I wouldn't pay it. But then again, depends what other options you have.

      • Yep, I have the same problem with my S2 circa 2011. I bought a new battery last year in the hopes of nursing it along, but it's time to upgrade. At the time it was a sweet, sweet phone but now it's showing its age. The screen resolution on the newer ones is so appealing.

  • +1

I have the 3G version for last couple of years and running latest version of kitkat. Really good phone and with the extras think it is worth $200 (especially after you root it and put a new rom on it)

    • Is it an official Samsung update?

      • The S2 only ever made it to 4.1.2, so I'm assuming no.

  • I had been to 3 outlets. Unable to find one. No staff seems to know about this deal

    • Ring the number in the post

  • Shame Samsung no longer support it.

  • -4

This should be a $79 phone as it is too old.

  • +3

For those of you who are sitting on the fence and not sure whether to buy the XPeria SP for $259 delivered, here is a table. Pluses indicate better spec.
