ClubTelco axed me - move to Internode or Exetel ?

Hi All,
got a letter today saying due to operational changes we can no longer provide broadband service at your premises under the ClubTelco brand…

and generously included a brochure promoting iPrimus at an increased rate of $69.95 PM (plus set up costs).
I was on the excellent $25 PM unlimited plan for ages which hasnt been available for months to new subscribers, and $30 PM for the landline bundle.
I was then getting 10% off for bundling a $20 mobile plan. I admit, I was on a good wicket while the sun was shining.

So, I've got less than a month till the connection ceases, and after a quick look around I'm down to 2 choices basically on cost.
Internode 50GB @ $59.90 incl line rental + call costs or
Exetel 100GB @ $59.98 inc line and calls (local, national, mobile)

Internode (Agile) are at my local exchange, Exetel would resell Optus or Telstra presumably.

My highest monthly usage recently was 30gb - so no issues there.

Any suggestions anyone ?

Internode. I've been a customer for 5 years and never, ever had a problem.

    • Having their own gear at the exchange has to be a big plus.

  • Are they closing down?

    • Not sure why ? Probably a buy out or something. The iPrimus offer may be a clue.
Came as a surprise and not much notice. I've just paid next months bill too.

Go with Internode, anyone can do better than Optus and Telstra. Big companies are crippled by bureaucracy.

Internode is now actually part of iiNet which is the 3rd largest ISP, so also a big company. But having said that I'm a customer and haven't had any issues.

  • You WERE on a good wicket.

I have ClubTelco and looked carefully at the options if I leave and believe Exetel have the best deal and better reviews than ClubTelco.

But for your usage, go with Internode. I was with them and never had a problem (usually because I could understand their call centre staff).

  • ClubTelco use Telstra infrastructure or Optus? If it is Optus there will be a wait in getting it converted for use with internode.

    • I think ClubTelco uses the same infrastructure that Dodo uses (no joke) and since Dodo uses both Telstra and Optus for DSL then it seems there is no guarantees they'll use Telstra in your area. Best call a rep about your area.

  • OK - so signed up online with Internode. Fingers crossed.
It was a close call but having their own gear at my exchange means I should have a smooth transition, and if something goes wrong, presumably they can sort it.
Whereas Exetel would have to rely on Telstra/Optus wholesale to fix anything.

    50GB is downloads + uploads.
    Term is 24 months

I might move my mobile over to Internode once the account is up and running.
This will allow me to upgrade my ancient phone for a Samsung device, not possible ATM with ClubTelco as they dont sell phones.

Thanks for the input fellow OB'ers, will let you know how goes.

      • Doh ! $100 bux off !! (promocode GON)

In try OzB style, I'm going to cancel under the cooling off rules - and reapply.

        Thanks Tonester

        • good luck - always search before buy :)

        • UPDATE: GON is expired
Used SAVINGS & LOANS for 10% off setup and 5%off monthly bill. Mention to sales operator (mine hadn't heard of it)
5% off recurring (broadband component only - in my case $36 for 24 months).

          Background:
Savings & Loans Credit Union merged with Australia Central Credit Union to become People's Choice Credit Union a few years back.

Internode may want proof of your Savings & Loans Credit Union account such as statement header.

To open an account, you have to become a $2 member/shareholder, which then allows you to open a free ZIP account. Here is the online link, and then you'll have to confirm your ID at AustPost in person.

Thereafter, all else can be done online www.peopleschoicecu.com.au
A little effort for a 5% lifetime discount from internode.

          Works for existing Internoders.

        • gon is gone? :(

don't suppose you considered iinet who owns internode with $100 visa card? :)
