Nothing wrong with this unit, but if you're after noise cancelling for use on airplane ( likely hey?) You may want to grab an in-ear version of this brand, http://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Acoustic-Cancelling-… pretty good review on Amazon. And believe me, if you're a frequent flyer, these on ear headphones will get quite annoying when you try to doze off…
(Non frequent flyers stay up all flight anyway to watch all the movies they can)

    • Thanks for the recommendation :) I don't think I will get a pair of ANC headphones just yet. That being said, I will definitely have a look at the QC20i when I go to the US around August.

    • +1, the QC20i headphones are amazing. I have had various sets of NC headphones over the years, including Bose and Audio Technica, but have never quite been satisfied, something never felt right. Even managed to score a pair of Bose QC15 from Office Works a few months back for $250, ended up taking them back due to that uncomfortable feeling. I work in a crowded office for 10 hours a day, have the QC20i's in for about 80% of the time with zero irritation issues, highly recommended.

The advantage of the QC15 over QC20i is that that QC15 have a built in attenuator so that you can reduce the volume, so you don't get deafened by the cabin announcements. I initially bought the in ears and they are comfortable and remarkably good - the NC is somewhat better than the 15s. But after getting blasted every time there was a cabin announcement, I returned them, and picked up 15s.

20s recommended for general use, 15s for planes where they tend to drive the headphones loudly to cope with crappy airline provided headphones.

      Good price on the 15s.

      • Haha for a while I couldn't figure out what you were talking about and then I realised you mean the cabin announcements played through the in seat headphone socket I haven't used in flight entertainment in ages since I got an iPad :) good point though. I love my qc20i ans have used it in the office a lot. Feels surreal when you take one earpiece out lol

    • I have a pair of these. The noise cancelling is just awesome.

My only gripe with it is the battery unit (with the power switch). It's too close to the earphone jack so there are weight/balance issues with it. I would like it to be further up in the middle of the cord, and perhaps have a clip on it. Instead of having a second unit (with the volume control) make the two into one unit and clip it to your shirt. Also instead of it being thin but big, perhaps make it smaller and thicker like the units that use AAA. It's more practical that way.

Also the battery pack (with the power switch) is coated in silicone. Bad choice because it is a dust magnet and requires frequent cleaning. They should have coated it in either TPU, or just matte plastic.

I have a pair of QC15 that i brought when they first came out and i love them
I use to fly 4 times minimum a week with my old job and these made the flights bearable.
The in ear head phones don't fit in my ears properly and i have tried different ones over the years with no success

i bought a pair of these off ebay and they worked great. I had to return them though because they gave me severe headache after a few minutes of use. Apparently its the anti soundwaves generated by the headphones which creates pressure in my ears. Not sure how often this happens to other peoeple but im someone that gets headaches somewhat often.

    • You get used to it after a few times.

Source: Felt the same with my QC3, got used to it a few months later.

    • I had the same issue as cyannon with my qc15 when I bought it. I stopped using it and then used it from time to time. I forgot when was the last time I had those initial issues.

  • How good do you guys think the audio quality is? I'm thinking about getting some for gaming and music and thought the noise cancelling would be a bonus. I've got a gift voucher for coles/myer though so I'm limited in the brands I can chose :(

    • AUDIO WISE THEY ARE NOT THE BEST IN THE BUNCH OF HIGH END NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES. I WOULD GO AUDIO TECHNICA ANC9, I KNOW MOST PEOPLE WONT LIKE THIS OPTION BUT BEATS EXECUTIVE.

      • I was looking at audio technica as I hear they have some awesome headphones. Unfortunately Myer doesn't stock them! I tried the beats executive at myer but I think they were around $400. I only have a $200 voucher and don't want to fork out too much more. I'll look into the beats exec some more.

Don't think these are great for music or gaming in terms of spatial depth. Maybe get gaming headphones or something. These really are good if you want noise cancelling eg bus or train.

Hopefully, you can claim GST back!

    • Doubt it. DWI is a grey importer.

I don't want to start a war, but if you are after noise cancelling headphones, I'd strongly recommend the ATH-ANC9s, the noise cancelling is on par (these and the Bose are world class) but the audio range and quality is better in the audio technicas. Don't take my word for it, read some reviews or try and find a pair to try yourself.

    • I tried the ATH-ANC9s but disagree that they match the noise cancelling of the Bose ones. I have the 15's love them. But have overused them (wearing them constantly to work in public places) and started to get ear aches. Googled it and it seems to be a problem that can rarely happen to users - watch it, it can be annoying when you start running to doctors and nobody finds anything.

    • And good news! You can use the $10 off on the ANC9s as well. Makes them really cheap at $199 shipped - best I can find anywhere, Aus seller or otherwise.

I have qc20 and qc15 but tend to prefer the 15, the music sounds good on it too…marginally beats the 20's i reckon

  • +1

The 20's noise cancellation is superb. Also, definitely the most comfortable in ear ive ever had, and ive tried a lot of different headphones. I actually think the sound quality of the 20's is a bit better than the qc15's, if you can get them sealed in your ear properly. In terms of noise cancelling both are very very good, and even manage to block out ambient noise in everyday environments to an extent. The qc20s give a weird sensation when you put them in for the first time with no music on. Almost feels like you are floating, and when you walk around it is hard to even hear your footsteps. Just my 2 cents worth, but having tried both I would get the 20's. If you dont like in ear headphones which I find a lot of people dont, these are far more comfortable than most in ear headphones, and I wouldnt write them off just because of the fact they are an in ear headphone

    • I don't even know if they're really in-ear as they kind of sit on the ear? shrugs I love the QC20i's. Very glad I got them.

      • They enter your ear canal, so they are in ear.

Have a set of the Bose 15's for a few years, been on about 50 plane trips mostly long haul, can't fault them, vey comfortable and excellent external noise block out and excellent audio.

If you use these as infrequently as I do, make sure you don't leave the battery in. I've killed two sets due to leaking batteries.
