Ripped off by PC store

ok so after 3 weeks i get my video card back yesterday quickly go pick it up at lunch. rock up there and they say it was replaced. ok cool thanks c ya later and off i go back to work.
go to install the card back into PC early today and i notice 1 of the 2 parts of the bracket at the back is bent at the bottom that usually slips behind the PCB. a bit weird but i put it straight so it matched the other.

then tip card so the fans are facing down ready to install and most of the heatsink drops into my hands. only attached at the bottom part and everything else is loose/free

i call up the computer store they say come in we will look at it, fix it up while you wait. i get there say theyll call me back in 20 mins ( never did ) he had a look at the card while i was standing there. I get back a hour later and he goes oh hey youve unscrewed the heat sink. im like sorry i sure as hell did not unscrew the heatsink drive out a second time for a 80km trip and give it to you with no screws. card was also not "replaced" it was indeed my original card that looks like they repaired it except they didnt screw the thing properly back together.
i Couldnt find out where they send the video card to ( asus ) at first he just goes i dont know. then finally i get it goes back to the supplier im like well give me there number so i can call them and get some resolve. i dont know who that is either. im like do you know ANYTHING

there was no management there to help either

edit: so from what i can work out the card is fine and the overheating issue was most likely from what i see due to thermal paste problem and they fixed it with new thermal paste and didnt screw the entire thing back together and why it was repaired and note replaced as they told me. as when it fell open and was hanging by a thread i could see a reasonable amount of paste between the GPU and the cooler

at the moment they are sending it back to the manufacturer as physical damage blaming me and "we will see what they do ". which it complete and utter BS

can anyone help in what to do? have only had the card 4 months and minus 3 weeks its already been away they IMHO should replace the card and then deal with the manufacturer themsevles

ive sent of a letter and spoke to thier RA manager in person and 0 resolve
im told i can either collect it as as now they suddenly reckon its been dropped according to the manager now today and i can try and contact asus or they can sent it to asus and see what they say or i collect it ect
id like to know how im meant to fix THIER stuff up when i dont even have these magical missing screws

this is utter BS

have filled out another form at office of fair trading who werent overly helpful on the phone

the PC shop manager he pretty much all but laughed at me
as far as im concerned this is fraud from them. the video card im told today has a diff serial number to my original card

So poorly written! My head hurts!

    • He went, like,,… :-) gotta love the "dude speak" when it's in a forum post?

Like, I wonder what was wrong with the video card in the first place?

It's the big problem with selling IT components… :-( You never know the skill of the person whose hands it will fall into.

Dude… your original box should have the s/no of your original card … if that helps.

      • ah thanks mate ill check the SN on the box.
ive been trying to contact asus directly to get some help at the moment but havent been able to find a number that relates to PC hardware to speak to someone about the initial repair

the initial problem was video card was overheating and giving a windows BSOD
i identified the fault to be the card myself by borrowing a friends card and not having the same issue with his card.
I used to be a tech building Pcs

Best to remain calm and polite with such matters.
Probably why DOFT did not offer much assistance?

      • very true.

people call me childish some times, so i really dont know how old i am these days. i didnt even read what you wrote i just went straight to the comments to the real story.

  • name the store's name here.

    store is GameDude
ive since been reading this is common of them :(

    • Not bought from them, But I've heard about them……..in these type of posts.

Now what should I think about their service?

  • Dude, I can feel your frustration man why do I always get the feeling these people who are meant to help us with our 'technical' problems end up being shifty and never really reliable people? THese include (but not limited to) Mechanics, 'computer technicians', etc. you get the drift.?

    • Because they are technicians and mechanics employed based on their technical skill, not their customer service skills.

  • Park in front of the store with a sign on your car:

"Dishonest computer business has lost $987 of profit so far today. Ask me why they went to x instead."

Make the $987 able to be rubbed out and keep increasing it every hour.
    Make "x" their nearest competitor.
Print out a simple explanation of what happened and what their reaction was, to give to people that ask.

Even if no-one speaks to you, the $ figure going up every hour will make more people notice, and they'll worry it might actually be accurate. They'll come out and want to appease and get rid of you real quick.

  • incredible! you drove 80km to pickup a 'repaired' videocard and you didn't even check it on the spot?! i would have opened it in front of employee and checked the SN with my original one, and right then and there i would found a problem, "hey buddy, if you replaced the card why is the SN the same?!"
