  • I have had this machine for over 2 years, probably one of the best sub $1k machines out there.

  • I agree with Above. I have had mine for 3 years and it is a great machine. Ideal if you have limited bench space as having the grinder all in one.

It's basically the Smart Grinder built in.

  • Is the BES870 worth getting instead (as opposed to this 860) ?

  • +1

Thanks OP, just bought the grinder. I have had one at home for approx 3½ years and it's still going strong.
Can't afford the espresso machine right now or would have bought one as well

  • Nice price OP, but I think I will wait for a good price on the BES870 since It looks like they have fixed some of the issue from the previous BES860 model.

    • what issues did the 860 have? I'm in the other-band camp with my sunbeam EM6910, but it's starting to make funny noises sometimes, and I had heard good things about the breville 860 so was thinking of switching over if the sunbeam died (it's at least 5 years old now).

I think this review from the OP's link to the product review site sums them up quite well.

I had a BES860 for a couple of years and while I could make great coffee there were a few limitations. >Breville seemed have addressed just about all of these in the new model, the BES870.
The grinder now grinds finer. It no longer spills grounds when filling the filter. They have done away with >the dual layer filters and now only have single layer. The whole extraction process now works effortlessly >with both single and double shots. Steamer is the same and I have no problem producing silky froth. It also >now comes with a hot water outlet to top up coffee or make tea.
In all I'm very impressed. I was going to shell out and purchase the BES900 plus separate grinder and I'm >sure I could have produced slightly better coffee but for $1,700 it's diminishing returns territory.
I got mine for $622 from the Good Guys (I have no connection with this store).
The first machine had a problem with the dosage control, you could not set low dosage. I took it straight >back and they swapped it over for another new machine which has been working perfectly ever since.
I really think they should separate out the BES860 and BES870 reviews since they are different machines.

Update: here is a link to a comparison on the two. link

        • Thanks for that. Looks like I'll go the 870 if my sunbeam does die.

  • That Breville conical grinder, although entry level is great value. Just keep in mind it does not grind really fine which is needed for some machines.

  • At least one in Launceston, and a grinder. Myer have the 840 which doesn't have the grinder, but they have the smart grinder for $199. Also the Sunbeam 6910 and grinder pack for $549 (I got it for $470).
