    Very tempting..
Also acts as a print server.. turns any USB printer into a network printer I think..

  • Does anyone know if the USB port can be used to share a hard drive, like on the Airport Extreme?

      nope, it can't unfortunately

  • Great price (for Apple stuff).

Can this be used as a WiFi extender ?
ie: current WiFi at one end of house.
Put this in the middle to extend WiFi range to other end of house ?

The simplicity of design and small form factor would make it ideal to stick in a power point in the middle of house, if it can.

    • Yes.. that was the idea of the unit..
It acts as a wireless bridge (so anything plugged into it's single Ethernet port appears on the local network), iTunes streamer (has a stereo out 3.5mm headphone jack to go to an amplifier) and wireless extender all in the size of a "Wall wart" plug pack.
I'd double check the USB drive thing… I thought the USB port was there for more than just the print server functionality.

Only with WPA, which requires an initial wireless hardware that is compatible.

  • It definitely doesn't work with a hard drive and often you can't use all the features of your printer wirelessly (eg scanner). But nonetheless these are very handy little devices indeed.
Plug some speakers into it and play your entire music library through it. If you have an iPhone you can get a remote control app for itunes. So you can listen to/remote control the music on your computer from anywhere in your house.

    • It has an optical/analogue out so I can't imagine any speakers that wouldn't work with it.

Well, it is meant to share a printer, and it generally shares a printer pretty well. If you come a long with a multifunction device, no surprise it won't work.

  • Hi Guys,

I was shattered when I read the edit that it was sold out but decide to proceed and see where it takes me, turns out that it's still available as the new edit comment suggests.

Just thought I'll try and clarify afew things for people.

    1) It works with external hdd's but they must be formatted for FAT32. Apples website doesn't mention anything about this, but the manual does. (Would be interesting if someone who has a Western Digital World Edition ext. hdd to plug it into the ethernet port and see if that works)

    2) Works very well with most printers. Probably the best print server out there. Others I've used only allowed 1 person to use it at any given time thru a 3rd party application whereby the user must request/mount the printer then de-register/unmount for others to use (Belkin).

    3) Acts as a bridge to an existing network OR can create its own network.

    4) I think the best selling point this unit offers for me is the ease of use. I have to admit, once out of the box i got it working in about 2mins with very little configuration. Just followed the wizard and its done. (you will need to install the software on all PC/laptops connected to the network in order to share the printer)

I've purchased one of these not long ago but returned it because I couldn't justify the price for just a simple print server. But since its only $99 its definately a good buy. Hope this helps some people.

    • All the forums I've check seem to say it's a misprint and you can't share a HDD.

Has anyone actually got this working?

      PS They're sold out again.

      • Mine arrives today, I'll test it with my portable 250GB which I have partitioned 50/50, one being NTFS and the other FA32 (for the PS3).

Another thing I would like someone to try is connect a hdd to the Airport Express via the ethernet port. So if someone has either an external enclosure with an ethernet port or a Western Digital World Edition, and has an Airport to please try.

Note: It supports USB Hubs BUT they must be those with their own power adapters. It also supports USB thumb drives but they too must be in FAT32.

        • cool, please report back and let us know if it works :)

  • Looks like they just replenished their stock.
