Friends - The Complete Series Blu-ray $109 (Normally $162) @ JB Hifi

200

Hey guys, saw this online yesterday. Went into store and the price tag still showed $162, but it scanned up at $109. Cheapest i've seen it without having to get it off eBay and cheaper than when it's on sale with their usual 20% off.

  • I wonder if this is really in FHD resolution or if its just been upscaled?

    • It is in proper 1080p because the show was originally recorded on film and also, thankfully, shot in widescreen.

If you've ever caught the repeats on GEM, you can tell that it's definitely native HD content.

    • It's all FHD EXCEPT .. the flashback episodes. They didn't want to go back to each of the flashbacks … so you'll notice the quality of the flashbacks are upscaled HD. Very disappointing - clearly they just gave up at that point.

Hoping they will eventually release the extended dvd version on blu-ray. This is the tv cut.

Great. Now I know there is a difference…

    • it's the only thing that's holding me back basically.
Thanks for reminding me, I almost bought it (what would be my 3rd friends box-set)!

I'd pay $109 just to get that awful jingle erased from history.

na na na na nana na na naaaah.

Meanwhile, we still wait for quality series like The West Wing to be mastered to Blu-ray.

I hope you friends fans are also watching Episodes. It's the best Matt Le Blanc show, since…..well, ever.

    • Agreed, definitely a fan.

    • I watched the first season of Episodes and thought it was great, but havent seen it on Aussie TV since when the first season aired (I think early 2013).

Has season 2 of this show started to air on FTA TV?

I wish they would release Seinfeld on blu-ray - I'd buy it for $109 no ifs or buts.

      Yada, yada, yada.

      No Blu-ray for you!

This show cost more than Game Of Thrones per episode and it doesn't even have any dragons :)

    • +2

Its not called Friends with Dragons for that very reason.

    • Quality does not equal big budget - Michael Bay

    • 10yr reflection on watching Friends
"huh, why was that shit even remotely funny?, why did I watch those in the 1st place?"
Fans of the show are probably happy enough just to watch this on repeat forever

Greatest, most consistently funny comedy ever made.

    • David Schwimmer is not funny at all.

      • +2

But he is awkward, and that was all the character needed.

I didn't really find the show funny, but it had something special about it. There felt like a connection between the stars, because there was, I guess.

      • gist of the show is: Rachel can't choose a boyfriend, Ross tries and fail every episode.

      • He got to shag and snog some nice chicks, so there.

    • Arguably, these are funnier
      Fawlty Towers
      Or
      Black Adder (ignore season 1)
      or (if you want American)
      The Mary Tyler Moore show
      or
      Cheers
      or
      Seinfeld

It's more likely the most consistently mediocre comedy ever made. But it was definately consistent. I'd put it on par with Home Improvements.

  • X-files on blu ray - later this year (supposedly) - I'll keep my $109 for that, although this is a good deal.

Hey, I can't vote on deals for some reason. Have I been naughty?

    • Yay, good ol' 4:3. Unless the original was shot on widescreen film also. It was my first every TV series bought on DVD and it cost around $170 a season in the first few…. Ouch. Still hurts. Bloody arrows for pioneers.
