Caltex removes E10 Pumps and replaces them with premium pumps

Hi everyone,

My local Caltex in eastern suburbs of Sydney has just finished renovations which was good at first because everyone in the area likes the 24hr trading.

What is not great at all is that they have removed 3 of the 4 cheap E10 pumps and replaced them with premium pumps.

We have gone from having 4 E10 pumps to only one and of course they have put the E10 pump in the most difficult place to pull in.

The reality of the particular station is that it is so busy that your lucky to just get a spot and can wait 15 mins in peak times so you just pull into any pump you can find only then realising that you only have been strong armed into buying the rip off fuel or do a lap of the block and line up for the cheaper E10.

This is shameful.

I want to do something about this but I don't know what to do?

Any advice??

You have the choice of visiting a different petrol station.

Do you even know the definition of scam? Please look it up in the dictionary or ask fellow OzBargainers before throwing the word everywhere.

    • Should read more 'conspiracy' rather than 'scam'. This is tin foil hat stuff. But I can empathize with the OP. Id be pissed off too if my local 4 hat took 'fishermans basket' off its menu and replaced it with Lobster Mornay.

gosh stop whinging OP! Just find somewhere else..they done nothing wrong anyway…they don't work for you ya know..

    Caltex scam exposed….

A voice inside my head read this out like Today Tonight/ACA does…lol

This thread is an example on why we need to be able to neg a topic not just replies.

How is reducing supply of something a scam.

    OP is a scammer.

  • +1

Only scam here is the op trying to make false statements. And only thing making my blood boil is ur thread.

"I want to do something about this but I don't know what to do? Any advice??"

Send your CV to Today-Tonight, or ACA. They'll love your sensationalist nature, and will employ you.

Take my story to ACC or Today Tonight and save other Australians from getting robbed.

      I don't think you got the sarcasm….

seriously just go to another servo, i don't see why it's such a big issue

      • -6

why can't OP voice his concerns? He is well entitled to it…the servo's existence in that locality would exclude other servo's existence as everyone knows the planning regulation / stipulation about the density of servos in any area/suburb. Given this industry is heavily regulated, ie, not really following the free market rules - it warrants somebody as OP to speak up against this practice.. tell me you really don't care if the situation is the other way around when you drive a car only can use high end fuel and your local/most convenient servo has only one pump and you have to queue up to get it for 15 minutes?

i think this sums it up nicely.

        • This is the free market mate, not a command economy. Petrol is not a controlled good so retailers are free to sell whatever mix of products they like. What next, whinging that the supermarket doesn't have a favourite brand of snack?

      d. Sinbin yourself.

    • c) Take my story to ACC or Today Tonight and save other Australians from getting robbed.

Go for it and tell us how it goes, but first go look up the definition of a scam.

    • +1

No one's forcing you to buy the premium fuel… they're not robbing you. They can sell whatever they want, they're not there to please you individually.

If you want real results and your voice to be heard, start rolling on the floor whining at the servo.

Move out west. E10 a plenty here mate.

      • hahaha exactly my thoughts!!….

    • you should definitely stop posting

  • What's not clear here is whether they are offering ULP an alternative to E10 or just PULP95 and PULP98. In which case rather than a 2c difference you are looking at 13c to 18c difference. If it's a Calex/Woolworths they don't have ULP.

Is it a scam…probably not. Are they trying to lead consumers to buy a product with a higher margin … maybe. For the info of posters from other states, Sydney's eastern suburbs always has the highest price petrol in Sydney. Now that is the rip-off.

    • Caltex/Woolworths in Victoria certainly do have plain ULP (91)… I used to fill up at my local all the time before I switched to an LPG car. E10 is hard to find around here though (would never use it though!).

      • Some sites carry E10/ULP95/ULP98, some carry ULP91/ULP95/ULP98 some carry all 4 ULP's (so e10,91/95/98) really depends on the configuration of the tanks underground and how they are connected to the bowsers.

    e) apply for a job in media

You have a knack for over sensationalizing the trivial

What if someone drives an electric car?
My local Caltex only has a spare plug inside. They don't provide extension cords either: what scammers!

  • My blood is boiling at the thought of this! WHAT A SCAM!!! Think we need to start protesting outside this one Caltex.

  • +1

Here is a REAL SCAM: at right margin of this page I got a panel: "you have 1 email waiting", which nicely linked to a page informing me that I won $3,000 (and giving confirmation number, so it is legit, right?). Rather ironic, isn't it.

  • I think Caltex are just playing to their target market. Most people in the Eastern suburbs are rich and drive fancy cars. Pana: maybe you should move to a more suitable suburb for you and your car? I'm sure there are some nice flats on Parramatta Road you can live in, plenty of E10 pumps at about 10-15 petrol stations between Chippendale and Strathfield.

  • Sir, if you're not poe-ing and this is all that is making "your blood boil", life is pretty neat for you… Sit back and enjoy the drive a little further away to a petrol station that has an adequate number of pumps for you.

  • +3

Please, contact TodayTonight/ACA. It needs to be aired.

    • It probably will be

  • +1

Mods should really change the title, as it is border lining defamation as there is clearly no "scam" by caltex.

And no, I'm not associated with Caltex.

Defamation is a serious issue and not to be taken lightly. Have a read of this case, "A NSW school teacher has made legal history after a former student was ordered to pay $105,000 for defaming her on Twitter and Facebook."

You made my blood boil by posting this here on ozbargain .. Go get a life

  • your car will use more e10 than 91 on city driving if the car is 10 years or older

cheapest 98 is normally the way to go as it will burn less to make more power

  • +1

Miss shell 100 octane few years back I was forced to go 98 when they pulled it. My advice like others have mentioned go to another servo.

Scammed myself thinking this topic was educational, waste of reading time

you will most like find sale of e10 where slow. so put in new product.

  • The only people you'll have luck with is ACA.

What a ridiculous post. Businesses are allowed to adjust to market pressures, and obviously you're not buying enough E10 fuel for them to keep it accessible to your liking.

  • I like places where they don't sell E10 and sell unleaded at E10 prices - my local is a good example of that.

  • Obvious troll is obvious. You are a genius OP.

  • What do you expect in the eastern suburbs? All those housewives need premium unleaded to fill the BMW X5/Mercedes ML/Audi Q7s their rich husbands buy them to go shopping in.

  • Don't use E10 in the first place.

    This is a GOOD THING.

Go with the cheapest non-E10 unleaded your car can handle (it's more fuel efficient).

  • i would "thanks" Caltex for minimising E10 - as factually E10 is worst for car-engines.

    • Factually as in your mechanics best mates girlfriends 4th cousin 2nd removed told you?

I can tell you they sell a hell of alot of E-10, it outsells all other petrols by at least 4:1 (except Diesel which outsells everything 15:1) so there is alot of cars running it with no adverse effects. Please stop spreading false rumors.

  • I know several other people have said this already, but E10 is a bad fuel to put in your car.

It feels counter intuitive to put in a more expensive fuel and pay less, but that's actually what people are doing when they put in a better quality fuel in their car.

The closest example I can think of off the top of my head is, perhaps, lithium batteries vs. alkaline batteries might be cheaper, but lithium last longer, so you save money. Not the best example, and maybe people can think of a better example, but the point is, don't put E10 in your car.
