  • Can anyone comment on whether electric toothbrushes are actually superior for oral hygiene? Or are they just for lazy people?
I have trouble getting my wisdom teeth clean… currently using a small headed manual toothbrush

I've been using one for a couple of years and I find the electric is a lot easier, especially to clean the wisdom teeth because I know exactly where the brush is and it covers a smaller area so I can get it in the right spot and let it do it's job rather than poking myself in the gum.

I did the research a while back and I wouldn't say electric is for lazy people but for people that don't already clean them correctly, it could provide a significant improvement.

Electric and manual 'can' do just as good a job as each other. Someone with good cleaning skills can do an excellent job with a manual brush. However an electric brush can provide an equally excellent clean with a lesser experienced user. You still need to get the brush in all the right area's with either brush, but electric just does some of the movement for you, creating less room for error.

      • Agreed.

And the counter-oscillating movement is better than some people's bad habit of scrubbing back & forth (which can cause gum recession!) I recommend them to most of my patients and also use one myself.

The important criteria for selecting one are: counter-oscillating motion of the head; rechargeable (otherwise the efficiency drops as soon as the batteries have been used a few times) & soft bristles. Then you just have to hold it on each surface of your teeth at the right angle!

A good electric brush cleans much better than manual brushing. I didn't believe it till I tried it, and will never go back to manual brushing.

The smaller heads seem to reach places normal brushing does not.

I purchased a few of the Pro 1000 model last year, when they had the 50% off + $30 cash back, and couldn't be happier.

The smaller cleaning head makes it much easier for kids to use.

    • Thanks for the comments. I'll give one a try!

They are fantastic. Much quicker and more efficient than a brush.
    Great for kids too

  • Can anyone with recent experience with one of these comment on their reliability?

I've had Oral-B power brushes in the past, and found that the power switch on them would prematurely fail, so that they wouldn't turn off.

Anyone know if this is still a problem?

  • Bought the pro care 500 for $20 after cashback a year ago. Imo better quality than vitality range.

  • bought a bunch of this when they were $23 for the charging units + brushheads for my pro care handle,. the shaver shop has the charging units only for $39 (which sadly die pretty quickly, i've gone through 2 in 3 years I owned my pro care 500), what a rip.

  • Damn, I bought one of these at coles for $50 two months ago.
Definitely worth it at this price.

The only issue I have is that the battery is NiCad not Lithium ion so I would warn against leaving it on change constantly as it may kill the battery per-maturely.
