iPhone 5s - $545 on eBay (Real?)

I was in the market looking for a new iphone 5s and found this - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=331183…

I've already bought it due to the fact it's a crazy good bargain, but is there any chance it's fake? And if it is what are the best options to recover my money.

(I bought this impulsively as they all sold out within an hour)

EDIT: Paid via Paypal.

    hope you paid through paypal!

    • That's very reassuring.

      But yes, I did.

  • Seller looks legit. You paid by paypal I am assuming?
Description all points to an iPhone 5s
looks like you gota an amazing bargain

    • only 80 feedback, mostly through buying not selling, and now he has 10 iphones selling them below cost?

    Completely a scam.

None of the supposed feedback has actually been left in real life. No history of selling iPhones. You don't have to dig deep to realise this is completely bogus. Sorry OP.

    • Any ideas on what to do now? Wait a few days see if it "ships" and if it doesn't then start a dispute on paypal?

      • I'm not sure what the best method of short-circuiting this process is. You probably want to resolve it with PayPal first and if you can't get your credit card company to do a charge back (if you paid via credit card through PayPal).

Check out PayPal's website and see if there is any information. They are notoriously hard to contact unfortunately.

        • Yeah, I was thinking that chargingback would be the best option, but I don't really see how the seller thinks he can get away with this? Hopefully it's not fake though, but I'll wait 2-3 days and if it's not posted then I'll try to contact him/her and maybe a day after that I'll just file a claim.

There are many signs that point to scam:

    1. 10 items
    2. Too cheap
    3. Standard delivery from outside AU
    4. Photo you could get anywhere on the web, cut and paste job for details
    5. Last feedback as a seller back in 2010

This has hijacked account written all over it to me.

Good luck! If I was you I would charge back now, while the funds might still be there. Once they are gone from PayPal it is a long drawn out process.

    • Would it matter if I charged back now or in 2 days time? It's still via credit card so it shouldn't matter as long as I don't take over a week or two.

  • you should be covered they state

FREE delivery using 48 hour dispatch via UPS Express with full tracking provided.

so if no number you will win with Paypal and usually this type of thing they don't respond to
a Paypal dispute so you will get reimbursed

i had a similar situation when the s4 came out
i paid $350 knowing it was to good to be true gave it try was a scam and Paypal reimbursed my funds
as the seller never gave me tracking number and ceased contact as soon as i made payment that was through gumtree.

    • Mmm yeah, I contacted the seller and gave him an ultimatum - Tracking number and proof of shipping (invoice from ups or something) within 2 days or else I will chargeback, The seller actually responded saying that he will uphold his end

      • good luck
my guess is if it is legit it will be a refurb unit keep us posted.

  • Good seller with good feedback history dating back to April 2003. Price is too good to be true but otherwise seems legit. Maybe he has just turned scammer or account got hacked.. but then PayPal will cover you..

edit: looks kinda hacked to me.. Aus account but ships from UK, selling 10 x iphone, 10 x Nescafe Coffee Machine at cheap price..

    • He replied saying that his supplier is a drop shipper, hence why he is from AU, but ships from UK.

A little bit suspicious but I should be fine considering I paid through Paypal and credit card along and if he doesn't provide a real tracking number then it'll weigh considerably in my favour.

      • maybe he got scammed by his dropshipper lol

yeah with PayPal so should be fine, and gives us entertainment while we wait and see what happens

Well, The item has been removed, probs a scam, lets start the fun.

        • that sucks, hope you get your money back fast and its not drawn out for weeks

Giving the guy 1 day, or more like 24 hours from the original post, opening a dispute in under 24 hours doesn't really seem right o.o

WHAT IF THEY ASK ME TO EXPLAIN WHY

        • Tell them your wise ozbargainers say so.

  • Had this happen before, started a dispute immediately you guys told me it was fake and got my money back.

Listen to the wise owls at ozbargains, they know all

    • He's giving me a story about how his ebay account got hacked, is there any harm in waiting one more day?

All cleared up, turned out it was fake, disputed on paypal, instantly turned into a claim, paypal saw the case and responded within 30 minutes, full refund. Kinda weird how fast this all went.
