  • Guys don't be fooled. Healthy Care is the brand of fish oil that you will be purchasing. It is a cheap knockoff that Chemist Warehouse has money in. Their products are manufactured in China under their constraints and not ours. Be cautious of the product as its just a Chemist Warehouse buy bulk deal rather than offering you value for money. Your better of buying something like Enervite which is the next cheapest thing and at least that is made in Australia.

  • tjgm98,

Are you sure this product is made in China? The Fish Oil container has the green Kangaroo "Australian Made" logo on it.

Below is their web site. It also says "100% Australia Made"

    http://www.healthycare.com.au/index.htm

  • They also advertise their products as

All of our products are Austrlian Made. We are proud to offer our products through all My Chemist & "Chemist Wharehouse Pharmacies"…

I mean that spelling mistake is so typical of chinese suppliers!…and ironically if u change the first A into an O…u get something else….

    • i fail to see the irony. care to explain?

the deal looks good enough to me

    • There doesn't seem to be anything conclusive insofar as their website. (Although it's pretty uncommon to see a Whois Record without location details - even third party privacy services have a location.)

      • Bad spelling doesnt indicate its Chinese made.

        It could be

        1. Someone in a hurry/bad proof reading etc
        2. Someone who may not be of Australian decent but naturalised - so an Aussie

Likewise Australian companies which I and others support can if successful, be taken over by an Overseas company, so the extra I paid to support the local company just ends up in the owners pocket as they sell out. Sure keeps money in country but the future goes overseas.

So all of this is irrelevant to the bargain being offered. We are looking at bargains - the cheap LCD TV's we all vote on, the Mars Bars, the Coke are all overseas made or run, companies

        • +1

I think you meant "descent" rather than "decent" ;)

In this case, people are concerned about the place of manufacture because of the Australian Made claim and concerns about quality and safety. (Economic protectionism does not appear to be a primary issue.)

Those concerns are relevant to whether it is a bargain.

          • @HueyData: I agree that the quality and safety of the item is germane to if its a bargain or not.
Well its not a bargain if you die or get sick due to dodgy fish oil capsules (either way it
would cost way more then the cost of the fish oil).

  • Irrespective of where its made….it still must meet TGA requirements meaning if its being sold its meant to be safe and of appropriate quality.

    • I don't think supplements come under TGA…

      • they do…they should have an AUST L number to indicate as such (as opposed to medications which are subject to more stingent requirments reflected in a AUST R no.)

  • What's all the fuzz about… it's a great bargain, no matter where it's made. I doubt you "taste" a difference… LOL
    Thank you surm.

    • If it's made in China, I won't put it in my mouth after all the poisonings that have happened recently…

      • Yeah lets see how many heavy metals we can digest from polluted waters.

Better still maybe they can kill us and then claim it was a mistake (like they did with their milk in China), but don't admit to it until it kills others overseas OR kill dogs in the USA with their tainted dog food. How can food from China be TRUSTED! It can't.

    • There are differences in tastes of different brands, some even advertise thats they DON'T have that horrible taste, so there not all the same taste wise.

I'd buy Blackmores if I were going to buy any brand. Aussie made (and mostly aussie owned by Australian shareholders) and they provide good conditions for their employees.

  • Cincotta Chemist has got 400 capsules of 1000mg Fish oil for cheaper than this.
