  • Excellent drinking neat. And what a good price.

  • Will Dan Murphies price match?

    • They did last time this deal was on! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139278 (10c Cheaper last deal, & another 5c cheaper at DM after price match)
Pitty I dont have 2 AMEX cards with $5 back on each card for DM like I had last time.
Worked out $44.90 per bottle for me

    • The more than matched and beat the Glenmorangie for 55. I bought two for 108.

Is this noticeably better than Russian Standard?

    • +1

I'd say it is, for 'everyday' drinking I prefer the brand VODKA, on a special occasion GG and Belve are equally good.

    • +2

Most people struggle to distinguish between mid-shelf and top-shelf vodkas in any blind taste test. The two exceptions are Absolut and Smirnoff, which are noticeably medicinal and sweet respectively.

Vodka is 40% ethanol with traces of congeners, fusel oils and other bits and pieces. Metaphorically its like trying to smell the daisies during a bushfire. The ethanol is so dominant its hard to pick out the other taste notes.

        Good info.
So much hype surrounds vodka brands. I've tried most by now, and have my own taste/opinion:
Belvedere, Grey Goose and other 'top end' vodkas taste tiny amounts different.
        Day-day drinking = Absolut.
        Smirnoff = household brand petrol.

  • good vodka. good price. smoother then the rest so value for money imo

  • Great price. When does it run till?

  • whats drinking neat?

    • +1

Don't spill it when you shot it.

    • when you tidy up the house before getting written off

    • +5

It's drinking it without a mix. Straight.

Does anyone know if this goes ok with LA Ice?

    • TAB or Schweppes Cola are perfect.

I've never drunk a "top shelf" vodka neat because I'm not really seen the appeal, surely there is a lot more enjoyment to be had in more flavoured spirits like rum, whisky, gin, brandy, etc?

For a cheap vodka I don't mind vodka 0 which comes in at about $30 for a 700ml bottle. It is ok neat I suppose but again I don't really get vodka as a spirit unless mixed with something.

    • Its not much fun in Australian weather but I have done the touristy Siberian picnic where you sit around lake Baikal quaffing vodka. Its pleasant to have a nice burn on your throat and tongue when the rest of you is freezing cold.

  • A question for the Vodka drinkers…….

My sister gave me a 700ml bottle of Crystal Head for Christmas. Still yet to drink it. How does this vodka rate,,, neat or mix?????

    • +1

Mix, nothing special about Crystal Head its all hype. Much like Ciroc.
You can thank Dan Akroyd and P Daddy (or is it P Diddy? Puff Daddy? Sean Combes?) for that

      • I thought it was a nice vodka. Would buy it again. Then I saw the price. WHA??!

        All aboard the hype train!

    • Crystal head is to vodka what Voss is for water. Fancy bottling. I bought a 1.75L Crystal head just to hang my cans off.

  • +1

Belverde is 48.99 for 700mL at Costco and my preference to this.

    • Never heard of Belverde?

    • Belverde is actually 2 bottles for 99 at my local DM.
