Hit for Cash Advance fee on a foreign cash withdrawal - using card that is both CC and savings

Went to Japan a couple of weeks ago and used my NAB platinum card to withdraw money (am aware of Citibank card and do have one, but either I mis-remembered my PIN or it didn't work)

This card is configured to allow me to access both credit and savings accounts. i.e. in Australia I can use the card to withdraw money from my savings account. My savings account has plenty of cash in it.

I withdrew money in Japan and although I can't remember the prompts exactly I am 99% sure I would have never have elected to withdraw it from my credit account. However after returning I've seen that it's taken the money from my Credit Card account and hit me with a 'C Adv Intnl Atm Fee' to the tune of a bit under 50 bucks.

Will give them a ring on Monday but just wanted to see if anybody had any experience with this and if they managed to get any recourse?

I'm mostly resigned to chalk this down to a lesson for next time but figured it was worth a punt trying to see if I could get said lesson for a bargain (i.e. free).
